I have the following TOR characters I play:
• 50 Sith Warrior - Juggernaut (tank spec)
• 37 Imperial Agent - Operative (DPS spec)
• 19 Sith Inquisitor - Sorceress (heal spec)

I also have other alts I play from time to time:
• another Juggernaut (DPS spec)
• another Inquisitor (DPS spec)

And I'm far from bored!

Here are the things I enjoy doing, in no particular order:
• finding datacrons and figuring out how to get them
• finding random puzzles and solving them (i.e. the museum -- anyone know of this, please warn of spoilers before you reveal anything... thanks)
• seeing class stories unfold in different ways
• getting to know character companions
• crafting, for improved skill and to outfit lowbies
• warzones (PvP)
• exploring maps and defeating champions BW placed off the beaten path
• flashpoints and heroic missions

And I still plan to check out the other classes.  Definitely want to try a bounty hunter, and maybe try the Republic side on a couple of alts.

Anyone else have multiple characters now?

Consular Shadow Level 28
Imp Agent Operative Level 27
Knight Sentinel Level 15

The Consular story is poor the other 2 stories are great.

Question while the TOR forums are down: When playing solo is a good occasion to tackle Heroic +4 areas? Or are they best skipped?

I ended up gaining my ship at 18th and leaving the capitol a bit earlier than planned, as I could not locate enough quests to gain 20th there. While I was able to do this in beta, a couple of Heroic +4 areas surprised me, perhaps replacing other earlier quests. And they kicked me repeatedly. One I could easily skip, but the other was 2/3 completed; simply could not finish the mission at that previous lvl.

Note: the droid attendant aboard the Fury class ship has some good lines; hope there is plenty of them for the long haul.

If you just want to play solo they're best skipped. You won't be able to solo them until you're around 7-8 levels over the enemies.

Thanks! *sighs* Seems this may have to be my Rule of Thumb until I become better at movement and tactics.

Note: Trying to remain a distance from melee is a good idea; standing on a respawn area to do so is bad.... Image IPB

I was having a decent time with ToR, all things considered, untill I needed their support to actually play.

Some of my experiences (managed a 50 Sith warrior and 43 Jedi consular):

Good points:
-Leveling is easy and there's a decent story for all characters, with some (stories) being better than others.

-Compaions adds a welcome facet to single player gaming. Especially the few you can get 'meaningfull' relations with (I admit I was a Vette lover)

-area-loot (loot one coprse and it auto-includes all nearby corpses in the loot) and good highlighting of lootable corpses

Bad points:
-Grouping sucked. The instancing of each world coupled with a lousy interface for getting groups was worse than the old days of WoW where you went to orgrimmar and shouted LFG. Here it practically ended up being shouting lfg in different areas as there weren't even any proper 'unified' areas. Even the fleet wasn't that much a gathering point as you could do most stuff in the questing areas too.

-design flaws (aside the above, ofc.) lots of small annoyances, basicly, but probably won't annoy anyone new to mmo's, though. Lack of addons and the inability to determine or control some things were really annoying to me, though, especially the fact that selection meshes were always larger than the models they covered, sometimes making it impossible to select specific models in a crowd, despite actually clicking on the model you wanted to select.

-bugs. And lots of them. I don't think I had as many BSOD's with any game as I had with ToR (I think the record was over a dozen in one day for me). In the end I had to reformat my entire harddrive cause the raid-settings flipped during one of those BSOD's, which caused another issue for me (more about that later). Even more disturbing was that their 'known issues' thread on the forums only had a few bugs listed, but often when I reported an issue or bug I would get the reply "this is a known bug", despite the bug not being listed anyplace for the consumers to see. Some of these were even gamebreaking and I was especially frustrated after having to flat out tell a friend of mine to leave an instance for a boss fight, cause the boss would bug out if his class was in the instance -.- (Directive 7, in case people are wondering)

-Support, or rather, the lack of it. Not once when I used the support system did I actually get any meaningfull help. The kicker came when the log-in sequence asked me a security question every time I logged in, claiming I was using a different machine every time ( I wasn't), and in the end asked me a question I hadn't set. Needless to say, I couldn't access my account after that. Worse, support wouldn't aid me, but just kept giving me copy/paste answers. After more than a week had passed I gave up and wanted to cancel my account because I wasn't going to get access to it anyway, and realized that you need access to your account in order to be able to cancel it. (A real gem there, guys...) Finally I managed to get the payment for the next subscription period rejected, but it was more work than it should have.

Edit: Almost forgot to mention: Me not being able to log in to my ToR account also caused me not being able to use the ToR forums at all, even the support forum... That one was really depressing to experience.

My final assesment of ToR: Some good ideas and potential, let down by a rushed buggy release and poor poor support. The atrocious support in the end caused me to seriously question wether I want to risk any more money with the company in the future, tbh, and the poor state the game was actually shipped in makes me wonder if the company actually cared about what their consumers think of them.

I'm debating whether to get this game. I've skimmed through pages and it seems like there's not much end game content. Did they introduce any updates?

Not yet. Patch 1.2 is looking good but even then it's more of the same with more warzones, raids and dungeons not enough solo content. Crafting is being improved but I can't comment because I can't test it out since I stopped my subscription until there is a reason for me to return.

If you want to actually read ALL and I mean ALL of the new stuff read it here on the test server forum.

Star Wars™: The Old Republic™Game Update 1.2 PTS Patch Notes

The biggest thing being added though is the legacy system which looks great so far. I'm still watching any news on this MMO because it's Star Wars.

Np but I say do not get it now it's just not worth it. It's WoW minus all the content really. When 1.2 comes out I'll try it out and see if the wait was worth it if not then I'll probably just wait for World of Darkness in 2015. Image IPB

Off Topic:  Just a friendly headsup:
Due to the way Windows is engineered to work, it's impossible for applications to directly cause any BSOD. (unless that app is corrupt, as a consequence of being 'cracked' or hacked in any way, or is becoming corrupt by failing hardware, as RAM, SSD or OC'ed cpu.
Hardware drivers can cause BSOD, which is one way for apps to indirectly cause BSOD.
The other is that the app somehow trigger flaws in flakey hardware.

BSOD's are actually very rare. If you have become used to experience them regularly, there's something fishy somewhere.

There's enough content to play for a year if you were to play every class. Sure the end game content is lacking at the moment but was the end game content ever the main point of the game?

You can't assume everyone will play all that content and honestly I don't feel it was very long. I have said before it took me close to 7 months to reach max level in WoW and that was when I was in highschool with all the free time in the world. Old Republic took me less than one month and that was with me completing all quests on each planet and not skipping dialogue. I even started two new classes didn't get to 50 since I stopped playing.

And this is a themepark MMO the end game content is the main point imo. If this were a sandbox MMO then it would be a different story.

Anyway patch 1.2 is out tomorrow. Previews and info over at TOR website. it's looking good but it's more of the same. I'll wait to hear some feedback from some guildies and friends before buying sometime myself since Grimrock is out today and Witcher 2 gets new content next week so I'm in no hurry. I'm eager to try the crafting though I wanna see if it's worthwhile since I found it wel lackluster and I've been reading the changes to it. Slicing could end up being in demand even more especially.

I ended up buying it since its on sale. Some environments/enemies/flashpoints remind me of DC Universe Online and that game was kinda weak. I like TOR's story aspect/group conversations though.

Mass Effect took a similar approach. Thank the star child for Marauder Shields!

The game's really not what I was expecting. As a Star Wars fan, and as an MMO player.

On some aspects, it's fun (the Bioware format, conversations, alternate outcomes, story...) cool environments, Nar Shaddaa immediately comes to mind,

But that's it, I'm afraid. Having to bear with minimal graphics and lack of any social factor implicated in the gameplay. You can blame society all you want for not getting involved enough as a community but this game puts too much focus on making you complete all your damned missions.

As compared to what SWG was (before the big ol' disappointing gameplay revamp), SWTOR is action-adventure on rails. And if there's one thing I love about the Star Wars universe is that the community is keeping it alive with their own imagination. Take that away and you're left with... not much.

Just my personal perspective.

Looks like Bioware wants us to really try out 1.2. Well I guess now I don't have to waste $15 if I don't feel the update was enough here's hoping it is.

Celebrate Game Update 1.2:Legacy

"FORMER PLAYERS COME BACK AND PLAY NOW ON US: APRIL 13 – APRIL 19In honor of Game Update 1.2: Legacy, we are offering former subscribers the chance to come back and play on us.Starting on April 13th, 2012 at 12:01AM CDT / 5:01AM GMT through April 19th, 2012 at 11:59PM CDT / April 20th, 2012 at 4:59AM GMT, former subscribers will be able to log-in to their accounts without having to re-subscribe! In order to qualify for the seven (7) days of free*** gameplay, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You must have purchased the game and redeemed an official Game Product Registration Code at the Code Redemption Center.
  • You must have previously signed up for a recurring subscription using a valid payment method OR redeemed a Game Time Code. (This includes players in their first thirty (30) days of game time included with purchase of the game.)
  • You must currently have an inactive subscription.

And my point was if someone is looking for PvE or PvP then they should play WoW because obviously it has more content and TOR doesn't offer anything WoW doesn't besides the dialogue and voice acting which isn't much imo.

I am planning on using my free time to design a new alt. The hard part now is choosing which class: Trooper for the PC, or Bounty Hunter for the Companions.

Both Imperial Agent and Smuggler are out due to the Cover mechanics, as I am very poor at movement. And I fear the Jedi Knight and Sith Warrior may also require more care than I am able to manage. That leaves the Jedi Conselor, and I personally prefer the other storylines.

Then again, I could create another really nasty Inquisitor; one with more Dark Side choices. Having a Sorcerer can be quite fun if one survives wearing robes in an artillery barrage, so perhaps a stealthy Assassin coulld manage to avoid the guns entirely.

Shadow (which I have played) and probably by extension Assassin (which I haven't) requires a fair bit of care because of the squishiness and the relative short range of their attacks. If you like healing, Sage or sorceror (which have longer range force attacks) are probably OK. Sentinel is easier to manage than Shadow.

Thanks for the head's up!.

Squishy is OK; Sorcerer is all about being 30 seconds away from harm, so I have had plenty of practice. The range thing is something I must consider though, as I must be able to control the battle.

I spent part of last evening waching vid clips of the various storyline conclusions, minus the two most ;likely to be played. This also helps in deciding which are more worthy of seeing gametime, as a good story is motivational.

The combat seems to be incredibly boring. I have a level 22 shadow and while I know that 22 isn't 50 all I do is spam double strike and that rock spell, sometimes force wave. Tried a knight and its pretty much the same thing. At this level, games like wow and rift have more spells that you could actually use. I like everything about the game, even the space battles but combat kills it for me.
