The combat seems to be incredibly boring. I have a level 22 shadow and while I know that 22 isn't 50 all I do is spam double strike and that rock spell, sometimes force wave. Tried a knight and its pretty much the same thing. At this level, games like wow and rift have more spells that you could actually use. I like everything about the game, even the space battles but combat kills it for me.
Funny thing is on TOR forums people complain there are too many abilites for every class. I agree with them though. Combat is a problem since well it's just more of the same. I can deal with it but others can't.

I'm dissapointed that they cost credits though I know I've read many times before that there would be two ways to unlock legacy stuff. One with credits and two through well the legacy system.

You're not likely to have any significant legacy levels if you just play characters in the 20 to 30 range. You only unlock legacy levels once you finish chapter 1 ( ~ level 30) with a character in the first place.
And let me make this clear, since there's some confusion about it:
The system allows you to unlock things EITHER via achieving the unlock condition (e.g. reaching chapter 2 in a specific class, reaching a specific PvP rank, etc) OR by paying credits. It is not both.
The credit option exists so players can enjoy content that they know they would never unlock in regular play (e.g. 'I'd love a pureblood Smuggler, but no way I'll level a Sith Warrior just for that').
Some things (like legacy class abilities) cannot be purchased with credits while other things can only be purchased (not unlocked) but are gated by legacy level (e.g. the GTN for your ship requires you to have a high legacy level before you can purchase it).

Choosing an Alt is much harder than I thought, as the Inquisitor stoiryline seems hard to best based on the vids watched thus far. And while I enjoy every frame that contains Blizz, I loathe the BH ship design. It would be painful to take that pseudo- Firefly design every day into combat. The IA has a great storyline and ship design, but I cannot move well enough to use cover; though sniping is attractive due to ME and Skyrim play over the past year.
*sigh* Good problems to have.
And the Inquisitor has several spells; many ways to approach combat, though the recent patch has upset some of the Healers on the forums.

Lol yea I don't know who came up with the look for it but oh man. You'd think they would have tried to have something similar to Boba Fett's ship.

Well you don't HAVE to find cover. You can take cover anywhere by pressing the F key but this is once you reach level 10. If you take cover behind say a tree or object you get a buff which is helpful in a dungeon or raid.
My IA/Sniper is my second character and she is level 20 so far and I realy enjoy the cover mechanic even though sometimes it hard to find cover behind a object.

Have to agree. I find it hard to play anything else. I love the mobility of the class. We have a stun, CC, AoE knockback, snare, 2 strong DoT's and crazy procs well Lighting spec anyways. So much fun and their class quests were fun and were personal though I didn't care for Voss much.
Frankly everyone seems to be complaining not just healers since every class/spec has been nerfed or changed in someway. I only read the class changes for a Sorcerer so meh I can deal with it.

I made a Pureblood Sith Trooper and a Sith BH; will see which one keeps my interest over time.
The two Voss Missions were the hardest solo encounters met along the way. They requred maxing out the build, and playing GUI Simon several times over three days in order to best them, esp that cyclopian Avatar.
FWIT - those playing Willpower characters may wish to consider the two smaller body types; had to skip a Datacron onj one planet due to limited access.

Well they need to do something to increase the population. They haven't implemented a cross-server instance or warzone system yet and it will take some time. These past several days of TOR I have not found a single group to do a heroic 4 quest. You would think there would people who want to try out the new quests on Corellia but it was a very barren server.

The on-going Plague Event centered on Tatooine may have something to do with current server pop. The Fleet on my server is seeing high volumes of players, while some like myself avoid the crowds.

Which story is better, that of jedi knight or sith warrior? I initially wanted to go with the knight but his voice and the script in the dialogues either make me cringe or put me to sleep so now I'm undecided.
I have not played either, but saw the conclusions on youtube and would give the more Epic nod to the Jedi Knight. If you do not mind Spoilers, there are several vids on gameplay and storyline available.

I think both stories actually connect in some way like you kill someone in the Warrior story and do a quest related to that as a Knight.
The Knight story is recommend mostly for people who want the Kotor 3 feeling since it's the closest we're gonna get.

" Andersen pointed to a variety of contributing factors for the cuts, noting that the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Star Wars: The Old Republic did not meet internal sales estimates and is facing declining subscription numbers."
Well now people can stop quoting the report EA released on Janurary since subs are declining.

I never quite understood why people denied the declining sub numbers. On most servers it was plain obvious the numbers were tanking fast - I started in a guild with at it's height 80 people and when I returned (7 free days) no one was online. There were 112 people in the Imp Fleet at prime time; quite a lot, but still insufficient to facilitate the right amount of people for group playing.Skelter192 wrote...

Even though I feel that in a lot of areas SWTOR has great potential (still), I have to say that they dropped the ball when it comes to the size of servers; they just do not allow enough players on one server. When I see that Orgrimmar alone on my WoW server has over 150 (level 85's) people running around at prime time; not even counting that some may hang around at SM/UC/TB, I just have to wonder about the population sizes on SWTOR's servers.
Then again, their engine is bloody terrible.

I honestly don't know what the hype about voice acting is such a big deal. It doesn't change the fact that you still have to kill X monsters or retrieve X items. It seems like wasted money, to be honest. If they had saved the money on the voice acting and spent it on the graphics and gameplay, I think it'd be money better spent.

Now I have never played WoW, and have no plans to start. Panda's have no appeal to me, as well as the MMO thing as a whole. But I have enjoyed more than I did not, chose to re-sub, and play that 30 free days I received atop the sundae of Star Wars.

The full VO is top notch for me; hearing again the actors that gave life to Loghain, Oghren, etc. But for me, it got better, as I decided to try the Trooper as one of my Alts, and discovered my primary companion vas performed by Timothy Odmundson; the actor that plays 'Lassie' from Psych. When I first discovered this, I found myself smiling (and still do) because the NPC is an alien with Canine features! Lassie!!! LOL!!!

WoW lets you play to Level 20 free of charge. Maybe you should give it a shot.

In the beta I couldn't decide which gender trooper I'd pick. Jennifer Hale and Brian Bloom are both great voice actors but since my character in Mass Effect was already voiced by Hale I went for Bloom instead. In the actual release I went for the female imperial agent just because she's voiced by Jo Wyatt.Elhanan wrote...

I noticed the game has an awful lot of actors form other BioWare games, which isn't unexpected.

Funny seeing as how the combat is an extension of the kotor combat, I think its fine my issues are more around the grindiness but that seems endemic to mmos.DaosX wrote...
I tried out TOR during one of the freebie weekends and I have to admit, I can't stand it. It's like a poor man's World of Warcraft. It's so utterly boring and the art direction, no effense, sucks. I mean, if you're going to use a whimsical and animated style, they should make it more colorful. Instead, we're left with a very muddy tone with lots of greens/browns. The combat is so utterly boring.
As for the art design you've got to get off the starting planets, IMHO the art design is the best in a BW game since Jade Empire. I will say though that I disliked it at first.

Well it sure doesn't feel like that. I can't que up attacks like I did in Kotor or pause combat. It's the same exact MMO-style combat I've played in EQ, WoW or LOTRO.

I say it's a hit or miss depending on the planet. Korriban looks great. Alderaan and Tatooine looks amazing probably my favorite planets.
Elhanan wrote...

I don't think anyone disagrees but it's not hard to see how voice acted hurts the game. There aren't many quests on each planet for an MMO there needs to be a grind. Otherwise you see people reaching the max level too fast and complaining of the lack of content which people have been doing. Granted the devs can't prevent that but limiting the amount of quests on each planet sure doesn't help. I don't see Bioware doing a Foundry system like in Star Trek Online which would add a lot of user created content.
Elhanan wrote...Now I have never played WoW, and have no plans to start
I think you'd be surprised how similar TOR is to WoW. Only difference I see is the way questing is handled and the setting nothing else.
