I'm playing through ME1 again and was reminded how nice it was to actually step on and off my ship, as opposed to clicking on a planet, seeing a loading screen, and then magically appearing on the planet.

I love walking out the door and hearing that XO Pressley has command. I love walking back in and getting a decontamination and scan. Little things like this make the Normandy a physically real ship, not some disembodied location on the other side of a load screen. Little details like this give the game a good sci-fi feel.

So, please bring back the airlock in ME3. The value added is far higher than the cost of 30s of my life on an away mission.

I totally forgot about that. But now that I think about it, that was pretty cool.

Aww, poor Pressley.

Would be nice to be able to pick who takes command in your absence though.

Getting on the Normandy was a loading screen. Why people would rather have a load screen then the decontamination is beyond me. Actually elevators > load screens.

Really? Something that petty?

You do know this was actually relatively rare in ME1: just Feros, Noveria, and the Citadel. Everything else was pretty much the same as how its done in ME2, only you were shown getting dropped off in the Mako rather than the shuttle.

Might I add that having to walk from Galaxy Map to airlock in those cases was pretty annoying.

So, no. The thing they have in place is fine. I'm no fan of the load screens, but this is not needed.

I actually really liked being able to walk on and off the ship. It made things seem continuous and immersible rather than a bunch of disjointed loading screens in ME2.

I'd rather they bring back the invisible loading screens too. Elevators and entering/leaving normandy were great.

Totally agree with this. another thing that annoyed me for ME2 is always launching back into space automatically when you go back on the Normandy. Sometimes I just need to go back on the ship real quick because I forgot something. Total pain to have to fly back to the planet again.

The way they did it in ME2 is just silly, for example you are in Omega and want to go in the Normandy to change some gear or do some research, but when you get in the ship the cinematic starts showing the ship leaving dock, if i want to get back to Omega after doing whatever needed on the Normandy i have to press the dock button again, its silly and badly implemented.

Yeah that was a little silly.

Leave no stone unturned. It's not like I will rage if ME3 doesn't have this feature. But it would be a better game (for me and apparently others) with this feature.

And yes it only happens in ME1 when you are actually docked somewhere, where it makes sense. This occurs in many locations in ME2 as well.

Walking to the airlock from the Galaxy Map is an acceptable cost to me. It's literally less than 10s of my life.

Definately agree with the OP. The airlock and elevators scenes gave the game a sense of being in a continuous, connected universe, rather than a series of separate hubs like ME2. Not to mention, the elevators did provide opportunity to hear some squad banter (which ME2 had desperate need of) All those glowy loading screens just annoyed the heck out of me and did nothing for immersiveness.

"XO Pressley stands relieved"

Every time I heard that, I could just picture Pressley wiping his forehead and saying "Thank f**k Shepards back". The stress of being in command of a stationary vehicle must be immense.

I have to say i preferred the on and off Normandy in ME 1, as well as the elevators. I remember i used to check out the citadel and make sure i always took the elevator, with different squadmates to hear all the banter.

It's really something i missed in ME 2. And it felt great after coming from a mission or side quest then just ride the elevator and hear the squadmates talk about random stuff.

That was actually a pretty nifty feature and added a lot to the immersion of the game. It would be great if this feature was to return in Mass Effect 3. The Normandy's VI saying XO Pressly has command, and is relieved was small details which added to the immersion. I suppose EDI will eventually say the same if this feature was to return in Mass Effect 3, which I really hope it does.

Totally agree with OP. I can't believe I forgot about that but I really do miss it a lot. Entering and leaving your ship felt nice and seeing your ship docked nearby and you could just stand there and view it was a nice touch to ME1. But nope.avi. ME2 didn't have that.

Hells F*cking yes I want that back. Furthermore ditch the leaving planet cutscene when I enter the Normandy, furthermore I will leave a Hub at my leisure not when the game decides that entering ship = leaving planet.

Totally agreed OP, visiting/leaving planets is definitely more entertaining and realistic than in ME2. Granted, the game must have had to do more work in ME2 to load richer environments/textures etc but still death by loading screen is not fun.

@evmiller & @admoniter: this +10.

Agree with the OP. But remember that the SR-2 is too heavy to land on planets with significant gravity, thus the need for a shuttle. What I'd like to see is having a seamless transition when using the shuttle. Have the away team step into the shuttle, close the hatch and engage in party banter while enroute to the LZ. When loading is done open the hatch and step outside. I know that this would be tedious if it's done for side missions but I think it would be great for the main story.

Agree 100%, hidden loading FTW!. The way the SR-2 automatically undocked also annoyed me, it's a small thing I know. It should only undock after I select a new destination in the galaxy map.

Hmm..don´t really know which is better! I think it is better for the actual in-game experience, but a bit more annoying for the player (when you have to do it for the 1000th time....)!

I´m good with both methods!

Agree! I loved that, was more immersive? Elevators, decontamination... no loading screens, please!

I totally support the return of the airlock and the elevator rides. I hope they atleast have one or 2 elevators in ME3...if for no other purpose than just as a throw back to ME1. A wink to the hardcore supports of a seamless gaming experience.

Not nearly as slow like elevators but still slow enough for me to prefer loading screens since in both sequences nothing happens.

I support any inclusion of hidden loading, but please, not in that way.

Have a shuttle sequence, with dialogue options. Just waiting in a room for the rest of the ship to load is just plain bad game design.
