Hey all,

Just put together a very silly video with my mage "defeating the Arishok in hand to hand combat".... I have a strange sense of humour and find it funny that the "epic" battle that earns my mage the title of champion is actually just my character kiting the Arishok around the room (cos I'm a noob and a mage) :P

Anyway, its all very light hearted and I hope you all share my strange sense of humour. :D

Here is the link:

No need to be ashamed when run like a rabbit in the combat with Arishok. My archer rogue run around and kick his ass, too. If you don't want him to eliminate you in just 2 or 3 hit, so run is the best option!!! Evade the elephant is not bad at all, whether you are noob or not!!!

Thanks lionalio87 - I guess running can also be a tactic!

I read in the book of the oriented ancient tactics which guide 36 schemes in war, combat and tactics. Do you know the last scheme? Evasion. That's mean running!!! How surprise but that's true!

Convergence: I thought of the same music when fighting the Arishok. So, great video. :)

@Aradace: Loghain is another story, because the combat mechanics in DA2 is different from DA:O. If your enemy attacks you, you are hit!!! (unless you pass a defensive check). In DA2, as long as his attack doesn't connect to you, you can still evade it. So for the duel with Loghain, do not apply the tactics posted here.
However, deal with Loghain is far easier than Arishok. Believe me. You can eventually beat him in hand-to-hand combat.

Regardless, the duel with Loghain is just as pathetic, different mechanics or no.  I have yet to see an RPG actually do a "proper" duel justice :)

I didn't had to flee during this duel, not mon my mage, not my rogue, not on my warrior.
The amount of damage dealt by loghain and the no cd on health potion doesn't make the combat much better, but it's doesn't turn to be a flee flee flee flee, hit, flee flee flee flee hit.

True, but it's still just as pathetic because on my Rogue (Archer especially) all I had to do was hit him with one Arrow of Slaying and that was it, he was done, the mighty hero of riverdane is felled in an instant where as I was expecting him to actually pose a challenge of some sort.

Now given, neither example is the shining example of how a duel should go.  But of the two, if I absolutely HAD to choose which I preferred, it'd be the fight with the Arishok.  Why?  Because at least he didnt go down in one blow like a pansy little punk lol.

Edit: Btw, dont give "Nightmare" setting as an example because Im talking "standard" difficulty setting.  Which would be "Normal".

Well i did the arishock in hard difficulty for my first playthrough, so more healt make the combat longer, is it harder ? no, it's just longer and the flee flee flee hit show how retarded it is.

I don't care about who is the arishock or loghain, i care about stupid looking fight.

The arishock hit like a mad truck and can kill you in a few blow, and your blow are just scratch to him + the cd on potion, and frontal combat are excluded.... the problem is, there is no real design here to cover the gap.
A lot better design would have been to make the normal attack of the arishock hit for less damage, and give him at least 2 kind of special tech that  deal a lot of damage both with slow animation (not slow animation for the hit sequence, but a certain time for arishock to concentrate his strengh for his mad blow):

1- that could be interupted by using one of your special tech : arishock prepare his strong slash, you can flee to avoid it or use one of your tech to destabilise his position: that way the player can use his réactivity to counter a dangerous blow AND stay at close range.

2- a powerful with wide move attaks that can't be interupted and make the need to get out of sight of the arischok (nerd rage mod arishock in a way)

i would also put a 3 - a very fast tech dealing moderate damage that can't be interupted and hard to avoid to keep the player aware of his heal and how dangerous the arishock could be.

It wouldn't make a amazing fight, but at least it would be better and more tactic than flee flee flee hit flee flee flee and keep the player challenged since he could avoide / interupt and stay aware for health.

I agree.  It could've been handled better.  My point  though was to keep anyone from using the duel with Loghain as some sort of example as to how duels SHOULD be lol.  Neither are good examples really but I agree that had they implemented something like you suggested, that it would have made things a little more "interesting" lol.

Benny Hill chase music (was thinking of doing same thing) nice job though I was originally thinking of applying it either on the flee from Lothering or from the vast amounts of bandits at night. Arishok one is pretty good too though.
