I have mine pre-ordered from D2D... I'll set it to download before leaving for work on Sunday evening...the preload content should be all ready when I get back in the morning.

Remember that Gamestop said it, I put my bet on Steam being right. Not to start a flamewar or anything, but Gamestop, except for exceptions, generally has wrong.

Steam download is big because it downloads uncompressed file; the others download retailers download compressed file, then uncompress them, using more total temporary HD space.

What do you want them to do hold your hand every second untill the game pre-loads wispering in your ear that it will be all right? Or to come over to your house and dance naked under a big neon sign saying it will pre-load.

The EA Store says the size will be 7.85GB for the DDE. I'd assume that will be the same for D2D, Gamespot, and Impulse. Probably the same for GamersGate as well. I gather that the 7.58GB only covers the main game and not the additional items you have to download.
