Right now I am playing as a mage.  I have been thinking about playing as another class for my next play through.  Should I choose another class that isn't a mage.  If I should, which is better: a rogue (dual wield) or a warrior?

Rogue, of course. Can't have too many roguish sorts.

You'll need want a warrior for tougher encounters, especially on Hard or Nightmare difficulties. Two-handed warriors are immensely good at AOE and controlling mobs, and warriors in general absorb damage well. Rogues are extremely high single target DPS and provide great target debuffs. Bosses and other tough monster types are made significantly easier with one or more rogues in the party.

Rogues are glass cannons; they have enormous DPS but they can be knocked around and/or killed quite easily. If you're going to play as a rogue, it might be useful to bring Aveline along and give her upgraded Bodyguard. That way 50% of the damage inflicted on you will transfer to her which gives your rogue more survivability.

Mainly, I want a class that can do a good amount of damage, but is more fun to play as too.

Rogues are ****. Reaver-berserker warrior is where it's at.

You spec your assassination/duelist rogue (I was dual-wield) right and you'll be one shotting or at the very least bringing serious pain down on enemies with Assassinate, Vendetta, Twin Fangs and the like. Add in CCC and you will see ridiculous numbers. It can get frustrating at times on Nightmare though when fighting archers - they will knock you on your ass and lock you down, so you will usually need to try to LoS them to come to you if there are a bunch or use your party members to hold their threat.

After getting owned by mage enemies more times than I care to remember my first nightmare run on my mage, I can't tell you how gratifying it is to teleport directly to an enemy mage with Vendetta and then Assassinate its ass and kill it in one hit. Arcane Horrors became a non-issue,

2h warriors are amazingly powerful and fun but I always end up killing my teammates when I use one. I would not recommend using other melee classes if you play a 2h warrior on nightmare, it gets aggravating.

2h warriors do a lot of damage and are fun to play.
Rogues do a lot of damage to a single target at a time, but aren't fun.

Warriors are made to withstand tor-to-toe confrontations with the enemy.

Rogues are made to attack from range, jab and weave from melee, and avoid getting hit much at all. They also disarm locks and traps.

Rogues are more versatile; Warriors are less fragile. You should choose.

I know, that's why it's so hard to decide.  I like to do a lot of damage with my character though.  Should I even switch and just stay a mage?

I would advise a switch, just to leep Mage fresh for any future replays.

For myself, Rogue is closer to the enjoyment I gain from Mages due to variety. While a Warrior may need a Rogue to disarm traps, a Rogue may not need a Warrior on the team.

I kinda did, a few posts above.

And it is personal taste anyways. Vendetta and Assassinate are very fun to use.

Oh one more thing - there is a locked chest during the prologue that you cannot open without playing a rogue. The completionist in me dies a little every time I have to bypass it.

In terms of combat, rogues rule in melee or at range, especially if you have a tank that can attract enemies. However, both Varric and Isabella are killer rogues and two of the best characters in the game, and Sebastian is no slouch either.

Rouge. Huge indavidual target dps makes them great for the not so uncommon bosses that may appear.

If i was a rogue, besides cunning and dexterity, what other stats should I focus on?

The real question is, Do you like Fenris and Aveline? Because if you make rogue, you are going to be spending a lot of time w/ the Emo and the WNBA player

none, unless you have a 2 rogue party, then skip Cunning altogether and focus on CON

If your Hawke will be the primary rogue, you'll need every point into DEX/CUN

Unfortunately the pacing of DA2 IMO makes it a 2 stat game, you need the REQUIRED stats to use a weapon.  Other than that, stats are meaningless.

I just played as a rogue for the first time and it was insane! They may take a good amount of damage from enemies, but they make up for it with insane attacks that destroy enemies!

I'm actually considering starting over the game now, and be a mage (which I am now) for my final playthough. Should I restart? I feel like it may bother me if I don't.

Rogue.. tbh the whole DA:2 game is built from a rogues perspective, then mage for story content.

Honestly there is no bad rogue build, I've yet to find a talent that was not "awesome" with thought and planning.
You can make a buffed up super warrior, a dibilitator, a disruptor.
A cannon, a controller a duelist.. all with very few weaknesses and plenty of strength.

A rogue is basically a rogue / mage / warrior in this game, oddly making every other classes talents mostly unneeded.
If the two other classes had the variation, balance and thought put into their talent trees as the rogue does I'd like the game more.
