I purchased the Digital Download Edition of Mass Effect 2 from EA's store.
When I try to play the game it gives me an error about the cd.
Failed to authenticate the disc. Please insert the correct disc and try again.
I installed the game using a friends real CD, but used the CDkey I got from EA. I did this for Mass Effect 1 and it worked fine. Is there some special setting or *.exe file that only installs when the game is downloaded from EA using their download manager?
I've got a slow internet connection, so downloading the whole game from EA isn't really an option.

What do you expect? You installed it from CD, thus all the registry entries are set to l;ook for a CD when you start the game.
You need to uninstall the game, and then install it via EA's download manager to remove the CD check.

Oh well. Decided to go the "acquired" route with a modified masseffect2.exe(registry has nothing to do with the CD auth check-it's built into the masseffect2.exe), even though I actually paid for the game.

You have been told why it is happening, and bring up information which is irrelevant to the reasons why. Either accept it, or dont. Doesnt matter to me.

Why is everyone so hostile? Just because you know the solution to a seemingly simple problem, doesn't mean everyone else should.
