First off, the Sentinel is just about my favorite class to play as, basically falling in love with it when the class announcement trailer for it went up. Being the "Jack of all Trades, Master of None" is always something I gravitate to. On top of that, I like "playing by the story", and that includes the bonus talents. So no biotics for a tech-centric classes, and vice-versa. The sentinel really doesn't have that problem, as it can justify using all the abilities.

Now, the classes all have class-specific abilities that capitalize on their abilities. Soldier gets "bullet time", infiltrator has the tech-based cloak, and the sort. But the Sentinel and its tech armor don't really follow that. To be specific, it's *just* a tech ability.

I don't hate the ability. Tech Armor is the best defensive ability, I think. But I just feel it missed a great opportunity. I'm not necessarily saying the idea should have been scrapped for something else entirely. I was just wondering if it was possible to make the Tech Armor more of a biotic/tech fusion. Keep all the functionality and all the numbers, just tweak how it works or why. Maybe keep the tech armor, but the shockwave is a biotic effect kicked in or something.

At any rate, I was just curious on what you guys thought? New ability all together? Reworking the reasoning? Or maybe I'm just crazy? Post away. Or don't. Whichever works for you. :D

Huh? Which class does have this "problem" then?

Edit: herp derp, you're talking about bonus powers. Never mind me. :?

Well, it'd be too strong if it benefited from both tech and biotic upgrades.

It's fine the way it is, IMO.

I think Ace is referring to some of the in game in consistencies between your class and cinematics. For instance, Shepard appearing in a cinematic with an assault rifle when you aren't a soldier, or perhaps Shepard using his omnitool to hack something when you aren't a tech class.

Anyway, getting to the subject at hand, the sentinel is my favorite class as well. The idea of having a tech/biotic fusion power is interesting but would be hard to execute. Honestly I have no problem with the power, but I see your reasoning and it makes sense.

However, the sentinel class is never really narratively considered both. Kaidan and Miranda are both essentially sentinels but are only ever remarked on for their biotics. The tech stuff seems to be extra. So I guess it's not to much of a stretch to say that sentinel Shep is leaning more towards the tech side of the biotic - tech scale.

Or maybe thats too much to say... not sure though

It'd be cool if the Sentinel could combine Warp and Overload to generate biotic lightning or something.

UNLIMITED POWAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!

Read the description for Power Armor. Sentinel Shepard may not be the "strongest" biotic but compensates for it by having his knowledge of engineering amplify his innate biotic ability.

Sentinel is basically an Engineer who focuses his/her technical skill into improving their biotic ability.

lolwut666 : That's a fair point, I hadn't considered that. If there was a tech/biotic mix, it would almost necessitate use of both upgrades, quite possibly make the most overpowered ability in the game, haha.

Khambilo : I never really noticed that, but you're right. I always thought of the Sentinel class as taking full advantage of both biotic and tech abilities, but the game treats them as simply people who are simply capable of both. And while Shepard does lean pretty close to the center, use of his tech armor would (and his efficiency with it over NPC sentinels) does make him lean more towards the tech side of things.

lolwut666 : I personally thought that mixing incinerate with warp would lead to explosions on the battlefield, a la, Roy Mustang and his flame alchemy. And while I do like the Star Wars idea of it, I think Psionic Storm from StarCraft would be a closer mix. :P

i'd really like sentinels because of their whole jack of all trades thing. thats something i tend to love playing as well.

but my issue with them, is actually tech armor. honestly...i think its dumb looking as hell lol, some silly looking bright glowing hologram all over you? realistically it'd just make you an easier target.

so i have a hard time justifying playing one when i'd ignore their class ability. though i was toying with the idea of doing exactly that.

you should try tech armor with shotgun, if you do try the class.  I didn't use tech armor until I got the shotgun actually.

I actually wanted to make a "no Tech Armor" Sentinel build, but the way the current leveling system is implemented without TA you can't access Overload and Cryoblast. So you're stuck with Throw, Warp, Bonus, Guardian/Raider, and 11 left over points.

put one point in it and not use it. but yah, it kinda stinks when you need a skill you don't want to unlock the other skills.  I wish they can do away with that at least to a lesser degree in Me3.

Yeah, Tech Armor doesn't get too many points in the appearance rank, unfortunately. Wish we could change it's color, at least. At the very most, it "materializes" as you take hits and is invisible every other time.

It actually really bugs me when you get into a cutscene and the armor is gone, then suddenly materializes at the end.

oh, i dont doubt how good of an ability it is, i just hate the way it looks. thats what turns me off the class, i dont wanna run around with the silly looking bright yellow hologram armor lol

i love the idea of having alittle bit of biotic and tech powers, just the silly looking armor shield turns me off the idea. i hate barrier for the same reason.

I agree on the part that TA is too glaring, we should have the option to choose color and brightness, bright pink TA anyone?:P. I guess they wanted to set it apart from enemy miniboss mobs like eclipse vanguards/engineers, but overdid the effect.

If it came in bright pink I wouldn't play any other class.

My sentinel is a beastly tank, I love it. Anyway, I am gonna make another sentinel that focuses on ranged dps, so basically taking the power armor instead of the assault.

Here is what a tank sentinel can do.

Yeah, I hope they tone down the Tech Armor graphic in ME3. Sentinel is absolutely my favorite class and it can really be an eyesore sometimes. Thankfully it's hidden in cutscenes. As for functionality, I think it's fine. I'm curious to see how they evolve it further in ME3, though.

Oh, I completely agree with you. In terms of actual function, the Tech Armor is fine. I never really had a problem with it overall. A part of me just felt that there was something of a missed opportunity to combine tech and biotic skills in some capacity, and that Tech Armor should have had been the hybrid of the two, if at the very least in story.

But as lolwut666 pointed out, it would also have to make use of both tech and biotic upgrades, and Khambilo also pointed out that while Sentinels are both tech and biotic users, that doesn't mean they are equally proficient with them, with Kaidan and Miranda being Sentinels more focused towards Biotics and Shepard leaning to the tech side of things.

I'm going to be the weird one here and simply say that I don't mind the way Tech Armor looks. Actually I like it.

But like I said before, bright pink would make it even better.

So, beat the game as an Sentinel a while back. Then recently I made an infiltrator and had fun but I made another Sentinel again to go Shotty/Assault armor and I have to say...Sentinel is my favorite. Way more action as a Sentinel rolling as a tank then the infiltrator sneaking in the back. That being said the Tech Armor is awesome, makes my Shep seem like a Commando storming through enemy ranks! I love the look of it as well, very techie and fits with the lore and universe.

Sentinels were made into tanks for ME2 but in doing this they neglected a bit in the biotics/tech department (not just applicable for Senti's but for Infiltrators and Vanguards as well) due to the way the powers were allocated to each class.

Because of this the Sentinel's only unique power is the TA; a defensive/tanking power but doesn't really get any other unique powers in comparison to Engineers and Adepts. For ME3 I hope they keep TA but Assault Armor may need tweaking a bit and some new/more powers for the Senti.

The biotic/tech combined power(s) should be something Sentinels should experiment with, perhaps with interesting and unique effects e.g; Incinerate and Shockwave combined to give 'Fiery Shockwave' or Cryo and Pull to 'freeze and ragdoll mobs instantaneously'.
