Awhile back, I posted a topic about trying to make the PC slide down a hill. Here is the result.

Really cool - plus the video is smooth - you got the frame rate issue sorted then - also cool...

Wow that's pretty sweet! You did this with a scripted solution and not an animation correct?

Thanks. The bad news is that the hesitation is still present at the beginning. The stop-motion animation worked, but I found that if the computer's system resources are taxed, the stop motion animation stopped working right and instead of going in a straight line, the character would slide forward, then back to the beginning. Oddest thing I've ever seen. It must be the way the engine handles a big loop with lots of JumpToPoint() commands. I decided to just try to use SFX and VFX to distract from the hesitation. Hopefully the hesitation will be forgiveable.

Right. I used the same approach that is used in making statues in various poses. I applied the animation:
ANIMATION_LOOPING_PRONE and then VFX_FREEZE_ANIMATION after 0.3 seconds. After that, I just commanded the character to move to a point at the bottom of the hill.
As I mentioned to MC, the bummer is that there is a brief pause at the beginning, while the computer handles the animation, I suppose, and I could not circumvent it.

Yeah. I switched to FRAPS it is better than CamStudio for getting game footage on my computer. Even with FRAPS, I have to switch to half-screen. You know, I could probably cut the resolution down on my game when I take videos. That would probably help alot. I'll try that next time....

Ha-ha! I was thinking of seeing if I could get someone to make a cutsom boot model that looked like skis and then it would look really great.
