So, the articles say that in the beginning of ME3, Shepard will be on trial for what he did in Arrival. However. Arrival was a totally optional DLC which lots of ME players didn't buy or play. So what happens to the people who didn't play Arrival? An optional, NOT free DLC should NOT be required to play ME3...maybe there will be another reason for the trial if Arrival wasn't played? Like a trial regarding Shepard's dealings with Cerberus maybe?

Well, as far as I remember, OP, it was said that Shepard will be on a trial because of what he did in 'Arrival' AND his other actions, wasn't it? So no worries dude! It will be all right!

It's not required, but I believe that the events of Arrival "happen" whether you play them or not.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read that in a few places at this point.

The trial is because of the Arrival, however at the start of a game there will be a recap of the story so far (with options to make choices for new players) and since the Arrival basicly had no choices to make it will be the same for all players, included in the recap.

Arrival happened whether you actually played it or not, just like Lair of the Shadow Broker.
Now here's a tissue, just let it all out.
