Am I the only one who sees that Liara has an obsessive personality from ME1?

one of the things i dont think any of us brought up was her age.106. a child by ASARI standards. she is MATURE physically....but not mentally. Rambunctious, exuberant, over zealous, or foolhardy would be a more fitting terms than obsessive. focused to the point of tunnel-vision?
as stated earlier (this topic or the other semi-hate liara thread)...she emulates individuals she has associated with...because her knowledge of social interaction is based off what she learned from them. child would do the same thing.

Liara is not a child. This is supported by dialog that can be overheard in Illium. There's an Asari who states that "I'm sixty years old and finally out of my parrents house".  So 60= roughly the equlivant of 18 years.

She's not 18. So what is your point anyway?

Is an asari child really comparable to a human child though? Asari seem to have a very different way of looking at the world due to their long lifespan. Perhaps they consider adult humans to be quite childish, they do seem to think humans are impatient and impulsive.

no she is 106. a asari child.  you cant place human age distinctions on a species that lives 10times as long. 10 human years is equal to 1 asari year...like 7 dogs years for us or sum junk. hell...for all we know asari are able to breed at 20 years YET have no desire to do so till 300+ years. not enough lore available of the species...maybe the writers will grace us with more info

but irl...most 18 years are not mature. so they go to college...get a job..doesnt mean they are all grown up. just cuz a 15year old pops out a kid doesnt mean she is a adult...but her experiences can help her grow up faster. maturity is gained through personal experience...not solely on years living.

agreed...but it can also be said that a asari adult can not be compared to a human adult (and vice versa)

Erhh no? Asari are alien and therefor age and mature far differently than humans. Which also kinda renders any discussion on the subject moot.

You claimed that she is just the equalivant of an 18 year old. In which I argured against by proving than in Asari society it seems that most leave the house and live for them selves by the age of 60. Remember that Liara is 108, that  is pretty far from 60.

If we assume asari-60 is about the same mentally and emotionally as human-18, then asari-106 (Liara's age at the start of ME1) would put her somewhere in her human mid-twenties.  Old enough to have her PhD and have some decent research under her belt, but not old enough to garner respect of people who've been working longer than she's been alive (much as it is with humans!).

I don't know that I would categorize Liara as rambunctious, exuberant, or even foolhardy.  Overzealous, for sure, but all in all I don't think that Liara's personality is a good example of what a 'typical' asari maiden would be at her age.  I imagine that has a fair amount to do with the fact that her mother is so much older than most asari.  She would likely have a different outlook on life than someone in their 4th or 5th century of life, and that would probably reflect on how she chose to raise Liara.

liara can hardly be considered a child. she's older than most of us here will ever be able to live to. I dont even see any child like attributes to her character

If you ask me, I see "obsessiveness" in this thread. Gracious. Ya'll are too hot for me to handle! ^__^*

Though, I will say that the best word to describe Liara's....obsessiveness....is "High-spirited" or "Goal-oriented". I think ALL of us have expressed this type of being more times than we care to remember. The question is, who is brave enough to admit that?

It's funny when you think that all of the alien crewmates in ME1 are very bad examples of their race.

Liara - Studies a long-dead civilization instead of shaking her ass or merc-ing it up
Garrus - Questions authority instead of blindly following orders
Wrex - Sees the krogan race as far too self-destructive for their own good
Tali - ... Well there's gotta be an exception to every rule, huh?

well i doubt that most maidan asari even do simply pole dance in clubs and shoot people. Some do, but im sure many others don't, although having said that the only example we have of an asari who doesn't is liara

word! they play against the template. to add depth to the character i guess.
asari are very social...(from the codex/wiki) The asari tend toward communal, consensus attitudes among themselves
too: for example, they prefer to live in shared spaces aboard starships even if there are alternatives available.

Liara appears not so early on.

Given that the current working theory is that Aethyta is Liara's 'dad', I'd say it's no coincidence...  >.>

I never understand is why Liara fans are blind to her obsessive character traits in ME1 and fallow her to ME2. She was so obsessed with protheans she alienated herself for 50 year studiyng them by herself. If you get her last in ME1, she becomes upset with you when you tell her that the reapers killed them because she want to get the info herself and it was unfair that someone who was not studying them just fell on the answer on their own. She then moves on to Sheperd, going so far as to read up on him/her to be able to talk to Sheperd instead of just talking to Sheperd. This goes so far that she hunts Sheperds body down for Cerburus. Along the way doing that, Feron and the shadow broker came up, so she became obsessed with that. Now that it over with the SB dead, she's obsessed with the info there.

Sometimes when people like someone they will make excuses for their behavior and when someone doesn't like someone they will over-exaggerate the behavior of an individual as well. There are people who, if they LOOOOVE someone they can't do wrong Image IPB and if they HAAAATE someone, well they could cure cancer but big deal, they just got lucky!Image IPB

This becomes even more unbalanced when the story changes around that character ... as in Shep loves, likes, hates the character in your game play .... which also results in feeling schizophrenic when thinking or talking about just one character.

Using three of my Shepards in relation to Liara ......

Shep that loves her =  Liara? What are you thinking errr, feeling? Image IPB (that Shep both fears & worries about her the most)

Shep that is her friend = What a pal! Brought me back ... what a bud! High five lil' blue sista! Image IPB

Shep that was a bastard to her = chick is frackin' nuts. Image IPB

Is Liara obsessive? To me and my three Sheps that is a big YES.
Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Depends on which Shep you ask.

Thank you for your post....Now about the comment about her being the most staple part of the team......

That takes place only if recruiting Liara is the last mission you do. She's been trapped there for an unspecified amount of them. Despite some initial confusion, she quickly comes to her sense once you let her out. This doesn't much support your argument.

dreman9999 wrote...

Now add her going behind Sheps back to study about him/her.......

That is the result of embarassment and shyness on her part. A lot of people stalk romantic interests on Facebook, for example. It's pretty normal "obssessive" behavior. She's infatuated, but she's not crazy about it. Once again, if you reject her advances she gets over it quickly and remains friendly and positive.

As for being a shoehorned character....Every character on the team is shoehorned except Kaidien.

I was talking about ME2, by the way.
