The Holding Caves remained on the world map after "A Bitter Pill" and when revisited, the only way to exit was by running through the Abandoned Slaver Den. Further, Fenris remained 'locked' into the party until I traveled to Hawke's Estate.
Edit: Just to add, there was no loot left over from the first time I went to the area. All corpses, chests, and crafting items were gathered.
