I know both games will be great, but for some reason, and I guess this is natural, I want dragon age origins to be far more successful than mass effect 2, in terms of quality and in terms of sales.

A Sci Fi world vs a Medievial world- you really can't go wrong with both of these, but lets be honest, both games have huge expectations.  Mass effect 2 naturally is the sequel to mass effect 1, a game that g4tv's xplay gave game of the year (pretty sure).  How can you not like a sci fi world where you travel to different planets, be it very linear planets, but still great, nonetheless.

Dragon age origins is the spiritual successor to baulder's gate ( i still have no idea what spiritual successor means.  Does this mean dragon age is baulder's gate 3?).  However, since baulder's gate came out like ten years, it is not as recent as mass effect's release, so there will be less pressure to succeed.  This less pressure gave the developers more time to make a fantasy medievial world the better of the two games.

It means it was done in the spirit of Baldur's Gate. It is not BG3; not that it matters. We all know you never played the BG series, flamechamp.

Flammenchampiondreiundzwanzing is now replying to his own posts. It's sorta cute, but much more frightening.

This has been discussed to death..basically..

By spiritual successor..they don't mean that this is Baldur's Gate 3..how could it be? It's a total new world, ruleset, lore etc.. What they mean is the mechanics..the style of game...the story-telling..the party combat and interaction, etc...is all being brought back. Back to the roots of what started Bioware..

Comparing Mass Effect and DA:O is rather silly..as the games are nothing alike.

No, by spiritual successor, they aren't pointing to Baldur's Gate 3. DAO is an entirely different IP, but, in a certain sense and to a certain degree, it's reminiscent of BG.

come on guys, lets stay on topic. I have followed dragon age origins since e3 of this year and although I have and liked mass effect 1, I hope dragon age isn't "in the shadow" of mass effect 2.

I honestly think the dog will be the deciding factor in which games is scored better. This may sound ridiculous, but there is nothing like a cute little dog with funny interactions and dialogue options. This is what fable 2 wanted, but dragon age takes it one step more.

Dragon Age was developed for the PC and it's been in development since BioWare started on ME. It will be the superior game.

They're pretty different games. I hope I feel that Dragon Age is great when I finally get to play it. I think Mass Effect is one of the best games ever made and everything I've seen about Mass Effect 2 tells me it's only going to get better. You still can't compare them.

I expect Dragon Age 2 will be far superior to Dragon Age 1 based on the feedback that Bioware gets after release.

Flamechamp...you're my kind of crazy.

I can't really back this up, but it seems that when they've released information about one, they've quietened down about the other, and vice versa.

They're releasing two of the largest RPG games around in a 4 month period. That takes balls, but I think they still compliment each other more than they compete.

I for one couldn't care less which one ends up reviewed better, but love the fact that both should have pride of place on my desk for some time.

Omg who cares? They are both Bioware and a lot of us will get both, and huggle the devs mentally for creating such wonderful entertainment.

I really can't wrap my brain around why people liked ME, Of the people I know in RL who played it I'm the only one who made it through a whole play through. I'm still trying to get my fiance to give DAO a try, he's pretty disgusted with bioware after that game.

That's weird to me because everyone I know who's played ME are like this every time I mention it:

"OMG That's BEST SPACE game EVARR!"

or

"That game was SO GOOD!! Actually I'm gonna go play it again now..."   ^_^

Really?
I've yet to find anyone that dislikes it... and it's the first game I've played front to back in a long, long time

Yeah I hear that alot on these boards :P (go figure)  I thought it was OK, but it seemed half finished to me, crappy quests, crappy 2 dimensional characters, idiot proof 3rd person shooter with a meaningless and pointless stat system tacked onto it.
