For instance, in a role-playing sense...

As an Elf Mage who aided Jowan, I saw my Warden as someone at odds with the Circle who stood apart from the Chantry-loyal City Elves and standoffish Dalish Elves.

This lack of identity kind of made my acquisition of the ancient and forgotten Arcane Warrior specialization all the sweeter, providing a sense of destiny and purpose.

Honestly, I liked the Elven Ruins area. There's so many things in there that they probably could've made a DLC out of dangling plot threads from there alone.

I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed the visuals. Normally I don't care much how a CRPG looks like; how it plays is much more important. But DA:O's graphics are just breathtakingly beautiful, even the the toned-down graphics in the xbox version.

I also very much enjoyed the banter between various companions, although you could say that I'm kinda used to it after having played the Baldur's Gate series, Neverwinter Nights 1 + 2, and so on. But in DA:O, the banter really does a lot to give your companions depth and personality - more so than in any other game (well, maybe with the exception of Baldur's Gate).

Good story, combat and companion dialogue.

For many reasons, I just can't put Origins away, even though I've had Mass Effect 2 since it came out and haven't played it yet, and the same with DA2.

I also liked playing as an elven arcane warrior. The elves are outcasts/servants/second class citizens throughout most of Theadas, and it never got old when npcs were shocked to see that the warden commander is an elf. Many human npcs were surprised to see dwarves that weren't merchants, but it wasn't the same as being a lowly elf, who goes on to save Ferelden from the blight.

The story, companions and the insane bloody combat. I also think the visuals are quite nice even though many complain about the graphics. Especially some of the armors look cool (my favourite is the warden commander armor).

I find it nice and calming when after some bloody battles, you just hang around in that quiet camp and talk with your friends and get to know them better. All the romance stuff is also that nice little extra you can do.

Same here.  I wish I could go play archeologist at those ruins and perhaps find a set of white arcane warrior armor, like they used to wear in the old days, or at least find out what exactly killed the elves+humans who were there.

You do find the Ancient Elven Armor down there, which is kind of close, I guess. If you're talking about the armor mentioned in the Arcane Warrior bit, yeah, that would have been cool.

Funnily enough, I'm got an elf mage right now who just picked up that specialization. Elves rule!

I really enjoyed the story and companions. There're tons of little bits that are still funny or neat after multiple playthroughs like telling Arl Eamon your dog will fight for you, the Lothering bandits, Wade and Herren, and Orphan Ollie.

The ancient elven armor is lacking, but it's rare and has symbolic importance, I guess. I usually stick it on Zevran. The helmet is hideous! Btw, Ariane's gear in Witch Hunt looks identical.

The white armor that the warden sees the elf wearing while unlocking the arcane warrior spec is what I was referring to. It's a shame that the spellweaver sword is the only arcane warrior specific item.

I enjoyed the puzzles. The Gauntlet, the Sloth demon's domain, the village of Honnleath...some challenging stuff in these.

The characters were...I don't know...believably interesting, perhaps. The ambient dialogue had some good laughs in it.

Oghren's sense of humor...the tension between Morrigan and Alistair...Witherfang/The Lady of the Forest...lots there to enjoy.

For some reason I found the dialogues with Shale (the golem) about free will laugh-out-loud funny. Oooh, the irony. My weird sense of humor, I guess.

I enjoyed the way the story tied in with the player's chosen origin (in a manner varying depending on the choice) making that decision more meaningful than in any other game I have played

Erm... well...

I like to play as the nice guy in RPGs like Dragon Age; I aid my friends in their woes, I help the ones in peril, and I feel saddened when I see a life pointlessly wasted.

Though there is one thing about me when I play these type of games that contradict those exact things...

I like to kill.

I like to kill whoever dares to face against me--either through one-on-one, face-to-face challenges or reckless bronto-style charging. I never refuse. I also like to kill them in a variety of ways (as a mage): I like to burn them. I like to crush them. I like to make them explode... I even like to freeze them solid and shatter them into pieces of frozen shards. Heck, I even like to raise their corpses and send them to their second deaths because I can! :D

The fact that this game allows me to do so makes me an even happier player. :)

Also, Shale makes me laugh. I'm so glad that I am an exception to its negative beliefs of fleshy/squishy people. :D

I wonder why...

"You have cookies?"

Sten: "I stole them from a fat kid"

or something like that
Way too many banters to put in but that was one of my favorite. Other games seem so lonely now I really miss NPC Banter.

Another plot point that's never explained that could lead to a future plot.
In Awakening, during the Last of the Legion Quest, you see those ghost dwarves fighting ghost darkspawn. How exactly are ghosts even possible, especially for dwarves, who are cut off from the fade entirely. It's not like in the Orphanage quest, where it can be suggested that the Veil is weak, since at least there are shades, abominations, and demons there. In Kal'Hirol, there isn't even so much as a shade anywhere.

The banter between the companions was my favorite thing of the entire game. On second and even third playthroughs I would stop walking just to hear them talk, even if I had heard the conversation before. It also drove me crazy when I'd try to stop but then come across an enemy, and then they *stopped talking*.

The Urn of Sacred Ashes is probably my favorite quest, in part because of how pretty the area is. Even though Haven is creepy it's kind of pretty, and then the entrance cutscene to the temple is amazing. I like just looking around in there. The Gauntlet is also a nice change after all of the fighting I'd been doing up until that point. (And someone coming back from the PCs past was heartbreaking.)

I also really liked the ruins the werewolves were living in.

I still can't get over how atmospheric Ostagar is. It's the most memorable game sequence for me, personally. :)

All of it: the sound of wind in the air, the heights, desolate landscape/endless wilds at the horizon... the music score and sense of urgency in the make-shift army camp, the chantry sister giving a cermon to the soldiers, ... even the wounded and the prisoner in the camp,  It went a long way to endear the game to me.

I love that LOTR/Helm's Deep vibe I get from Ostagar.... I just looooove that gorgeous view of the montains... I keep wondering what's out there.... so pretty...

Playing as a DC... so I save Orzammar 2nd to last before the dalish....coming through the snowy mountains feels like I'm coming home after a long trip....

I always run to the diamond quarter to find Rica :)

The final battle at Denerim.... epic....... Haven is creepy.... the woodsy peaceful feel of the dalish forests...

*sigh* DAO is just a visual treat
