The end battle is among the best in all of Mass Effect 1. It was strategic, open and fun.

To avoid confusion, when I say "end-battle" I actually mean the battle BEFORE you talk to Balak, when you enter his facility.

the choice made it epic. bumping into homeboy and settling up would be more so...if you let him go
Shep: remember me?
Balak: Shepard..but i heard you were dead!
Shep: You heard wrong.

I wonder if Balak ever visited the Bahak system...

With Arrival, the irony becomes so delicious that I'd eat it.

I loved BDtS, but I really disliked that battle. I felt like I was fighting the same battle multiple times when batarians kept spawning and doing the exact same thing. The open environment was good, but I didn't enjoy the actual fight.

I think the choice at the end was the best part; the consequences of which were more salient than some others. One of the more difficult choices in the game, IMO.

I really wished I was able to position my squadmates better in that fight.

That's one of my favorite fights.
It's a big open environment... batarians everywhere... I have to play smart and pay attention to which ones I'm targetting to make sure I get those Engineers first before they blow my weapons up.

On Insanity the fight lasts a decent while... I'm not sure if I'm in the majority or minority in liking long battles where everyone's a walking tank. ^.^b

It would be pretty sweet if this 'Batarian Invasion' Balak was going on about was brought up in ME3, and if you spared Balak, you could have a mission to hunt him down and catch him. I'm not sure how to make sure the people who made the 'needs of many over the few' choice to attack him wouldn't be left out by that, though...

Damn, I wish BioWare would make BDTS free, because I'd love to play it. I don't think I'd pay 800 points for it though.

BDTS is free, or at least on PC it is.

It's 80 points not 800.

I didn't bother downloading the DLC for ME1, I hope it doesn't come back to bite me in the ass in ME3. ._. (Already spent close to $70 CAD for ME2 DLC.........Bleh!)

Just finished it with my canon femshep playthrough. Still love that dlc. Has some of the best choices/decisions in ME as a whole and the end battle is great. And LOOT - in a DLC --- from BW --- who woulda thunk it!

BDtS is not underrated.  I don't know anyone who likes ME1 who did not like BDtS.

I wish I could control them at all. They pretty much do whatever the hell they want in there which normal equates to running head first into a group of enemies with sabotaged weapons.

if you decide to kill him the battle afterwards is better, tho you have to stomach killing everybody and then telling the bad news to that engineer (who already lost all his workmates)

It's unfortunate that N7 missions in ME2 did not turn out to be like BDTS. I thought it had set the standard for how side missions are supposed to be like.

True.

I was HEAVILY disappointed in N7 missions, especially when they popped out stuff like Lair of the Shadow Broker and Overlord.

BDTS was a good dlc but the fact that it recycled the same interiors for the torch areas hampered it.

I liked the final battle too, except for the darn drop in frame rate.  I swear I died more times because the game slowed down than any tactical mistakes I might have made.  Overall, BDtS was great, if only Pinacle Station was half as good...

BDtS, LotSB, Overlord, etc. should not be compared to N7 missions.  They are more like non-main plot versions of Virmire, Noveria, Feros, Horizon, etc.  You can't possibly expect them to make 20 or so optional Virmire-type scenarios?

Some of the ME1 side mission campaigns if remade could rival or surpass LOTSB or Overlord like the Geth Armstrong cluster missions or Hades' dogs.

Eh, the stories were more interesting than the majority of the ME2 sidequests, but the gameplay in 2 was so much better, and each one was pretty varied, unlike 1 where they had the carbon-copy bunkers and Mako driving.
