My dream team is PURE KROGAN... However unlikely it would be I'd love to have Wrex and Grunt on the team together. Shepard in the middle and a giant Krogan bodyguard on each side of him, that's just awesome. Anyway I like the majority of the characters, but my list would be:

3- Tali
4- Garrus
5- Zaeed
6- Thane
Zaeed is the only human I really like, I'm all about the aliens. Too bad Shepard couldn't have been an alien of choice. I'd rather go freelance. I do love all of BioWare's games, but I'm a bit sick of the authority figures/organized government in them being almost universally full of epic fail.
As for squaddies, my top three are Garrus, Legion, and Miranda. Fore purely emotional reasons: Tali, Garrus and Ash/Kaiden
At end of the day I always end up with Ash and Wrex in ME1, Grunt and Legion in ME2. I like tough, high damage squadmates for fights.
I would prefer to either be freelance, or a spectre again. Alliance would be irritating, TIM is annoying. Council are useless, but at least they don't get in your way.
