 I really enjoyed Awakenings.

The only problems I had were with the companions. I missed the ability to speak with them when I wanted, relationships were developed way too fast, there was hardly any character development, and while in Origins I got really attached to almost every character, I didn't really care about anyone in Awakenings. Oh, and no romance, obviously.

But then, it's an expansion, right? It's supposed to be short? And in the time frame they give you it's hard to develop meaningful characters.

It's a just such a shock that DA2 was so bad.

it seems to me the straight guys would have very little choice, i mean to me im not sure i would even go for Sigrun(cause shes a dwarf, others might go for that) and the theres Velanna, who is exactly if not more ****ier than Morrigan. even after having her approval almost 90% she stills seems kinda "angry"(id still try for her though)

on a side note i liked Awakening for what it is, an "expansion" now i havent played expansions before so i dont know how long it should be, but i thought it worked.  and what yaw said with such a short game you arent gonna get too attached to your companions, much like the 2 from Witch Hunt(even though its incredibly shorter)

and no, DA2 "wasnt so bad" i say its just right(for its direction) i would say its probably little less than Awakening

I also own Awakenings and I really enjoyed it. The expansion worked just fine for me until they came out with patch 1.03. After this patch the expansion never worked right again. They still have never fully patched this game and since a new engine has been buildt I guess we'll never see this game patched properly.  I never had the Silverite Mine issue until after 1.03. I was so angry that this patched destoryed this nice little 30-40 hour expansion.

I really enjoyed the story and how it expanded the lore of the game. I loved all of the companion characters in Awakenings, well except for one, he was starting to grate on my nerves after awhile.  I can't say which one since no spoilers.

There is also an issue now for many players over the party approval system. They just don't work right anymore. It is worth playing to prepare a player for DA2.

(5) The inability to import a save of a dead Warden and play an Orlesian Warden in the world they left behind. That would have been a really nice touch. Instead we get a magically resurrected Warden.

This was pretty much my only complaint about Awakening, but with that also my biggest concerning the series as a whole.

Yeah, no doubt about that. It's a solid expansion which you can put quite a few hours into (Ravenhart's 30-40 hours seems about right, with a nice story that serves as a continuation of Origins as well as a set-up for the second game.

It's kind of short, has little conversing with party members, feels less important than Origins, Oghren disapproves of just about everything, Sigrun isn't romancable (I was a dwarf.), ALL gifts give +5 approval, the outcome of Origins doesn't mean much (I'm prince consort, but feel like just a Warden Commander and arl), there's no indication of Queen Anora loving the human noble or vice versa, very few patches were made... and yet I think it's probably a much better example of a proper sequel to Origins than DA 2.

It's still worth the money, for continuing your Warden's story. I must admit, I quite enjoyed the feeling of power. Even though I was never addressed as "your majesty" (marriage to the queen), I still felt like I was important.

I enjoyed it. The amusement derived from the schleets conversation ("Pants.") was worth at least $10 for me. The companions are great-Nathaniel was an awesome surprise. Anders was one of my favorites because he was like a bizarre combination between Zevran and Alistair, only with a cat. Playing this gives you a great deal of backstory for one of the characters in DA2 and importing the final save into that game can possibly get you a cameo, depending on what happens to a certain person in the end.

Varel is the best seneschal ever.  "It's a very Orlesian thing to do."

I wish Warden Alistair sent a letter, since Leliana and Zevran do, and those were enough for me to accept that those two werent' there.

I agree with Neverwinter_Knight77 about feeling important, even though I'm not addressed as your majesty when playing a Queen Cousland. Being able to curbstomp everything helped, especially with an archer in the party. Another sidequest that did was one of the first ones you can pick up-rescue the noble's daughter from bandits. One of the lines you get is "Lord [Whoever] sent the Commander of the Grey instead" and the bandits promptly freak out. Great line.

The endgame cutscene repeating bug can go die in a fire, and I really disliked the "click on random object and have conversation with unknown companion" system.

It was a good expansion. Not stellar and certainly nowhere near the original. But good enough for an expansion. It could have had some extra stuff to make it higher quality; but hey, its 10$.

I think the main problem is that Bioware / EA took the tacit acceptance of the expansion; which rode on DAO's coat tails; as tacit approval for how they wanted to make DA2; which is why the same team which designed DAA created DA2; rather than the team which orignally created DAO.

I thought it was a terrific expansion. I think Anders, Nathaniel and Justice were really interesting companions, and would have served well in the original game.

The ending decision to the game is one of the most greay decisions i've had to make.

Yeah, that's one thing that I never understood.  If Alistair isn't king, he doesn't show up at all in Awakening.  I like Alistair, and I thought it was very strange that, as a Grey Warden, he basically disappears.
