Ever since I had to replace my hard drive and reinstall everything, I have been having a lot of crashes on Mass Effect 1 that the screen goes black with the background music still playing for a little while, then eventually the music is replaced by a buzzing noise, and all I can do is force-restart the computer.

The strangest part is that, for whatever reason, it seems to happen quite a bit when I'm encountering the rachni. For example, on my current playthrough, I hardly had any crashes like this at all (maybe none, in fact), until I got to the point where I was investigating Cerberus and entered the base where they had rachni soldiers. Since then, it's been happening somewhat frequently, and once I got to the rachni again on Peak 15, I can barely go more than a couple minutes without a crash. I'm having to save constantly just to make sure I don't lose progress on even fairly minor dialogue scenes, elevator rides, and what not.

The game otherwise runs fine, and I already turned the texture detail down to low during Peak 15. And while I can eventually get through this and back to a point where it's not crashing every 3 minutes, this is pretty annoying. Has anyone else had this specific problem? Is there any reason that the way the rachni are programmed would cause all these crashes, and is there some other setting I can adjust to prevent it from happening so often?

I seriously feel sorry for the techy people trying to help on this forum. They always seems to be asking what system specs people have since they dont read the sticky. There seriously should be compulsory form to fill out where you have to state your comp specs before posting... but anyway, mate you need to state what your using
