List of things we like in DA II

One of the few things I found improved from DA:O were the armory and weaponry available for all classes. Most of them were very well designed and unique looking. Some of them were also kind of exotic, but created with good taste. 2-handed weapons have still the size of a qunari and look too cartoonish though... Anyway, that's my best attempt to say something positive about DA II.

My only gripes with the new animations are being stuck to the floor and doing a canned animation because the enemy couldn't be targeted leads to many cheap deaths, and some of the archer's new animations are over the top (Doing a full backflip when using Assassination? For an Archer? Come on.)
I enjoy the game greatly, though I haven't been playing it lately. That was poetry, beotches.

What I liked most about it was the direction BioWare took in making Hawke's family a major role in the decisions that you make in the game. It made the story feel more personal and gives the main character a weakness. Without giving out any spoilers, (sorry if I do) certain points in the game made me feel completely helpless, since there were things my character couldn't do for the people he cared for the most.

The battle animations. Beyond Mage melee - which I agree with - the new animation for mages, rogues, archers and warriors are awesome. Especially Mages, who don't just jab you with their staff anymore. They have what I've been calling "swagger". Attitude. They're dangerous mo-fos and they know it, and now they look it when they're casting spells, summoning, drawing power, etc.
My only gripes with the new animations are being stuck to the floor and doing a canned animation because the enemy couldn't be targeted leads to many cheap deaths, and some of the archer's new animations are over the top (Doing a full backflip when using Assassination? For an Archer? Come on.)

I enjoyed DA2 quite a bit, not as much as I would have liked. But I definitely would say I liked DA2!

I echo the love for the mage animations. I also was thrilled to have practical mage clothing, i.e. not robes, and the staff designs were also quite cool. The mage champion armor was my favorite and I only modded it to take out the dribble shelf.
Force mage was pretty fun. There were fewer spells I had to take just to get to the spells I wanted, except for in the blood mage tree where that was still the case.
Varric- enough said.

I really liked the Arishok and Qunari quest-line, however. The Arishok was pure awesomeness.

Again, if you read the whole of my post, you'll see specifically what I mean. Did I feel we could affect the over-arching story in a significant way? No. For its purposes BioWare needed to force us to certain specific events, and the game does so somewhat ham-fistedly at times. However, the small stuff - the individual stories and the effects on the characters you meet throughout the game - that is what really shines in DA2 over DAO.Oban1961 wrote...

Decision making/roleplaying aspects - this aspect was actually one that felt significantly improved for me over DA:O.
I just abandoned hope completely. ~sadly cries into her pillow
OT, sorry.
OP: If I summarise that it's probably: Verisimilitude due to roleplaying and small scale consequences.
And I like DA2, even though I recognise that it has some serious flaws.

I really liked the plot hooks for future games/expansions/DLCs. Examples:
* The Enigma of Kirkwall
* Leliana's dialogue at the end of the game
* Sebastian's future in Starkhaven

Eh. The only people who would object to it are trolls who shouldn't be here in the first place, so a bit of fighting fire with fire.
And another response to the OP: the way characters pursue their own relationships amongst themselves and with other NPCs. Makes the world feel more alive.
