I didn't know dwarves did necromancy. Image IPB

Anyway, I'm surprised Dalish came in higher than City Elf. The latter was far more interesting. Dalish was literally the last one I did and I had to force myself through it. Dwarf Noble origin was superb, but doesn't surprise me that few played it. Mage was one of the worst, but also doesn't surprise me that it did well, since it was the only choice if you wanted to cast.

I have to say that in other games I’ve never bothered to try dwarves because the story was the same no matter what and since my favorite class is elf (or half elf when applied) I never played as a dwarf. Origins actually caught my attention on that regard because of the different stories so I decided I was going to tried them all and I did. The dwarven noble origin was a really great surprise. It struck me as a great written story... I am not exactly sure why but for me it seemed like it was one of the pillars of the whole game. After playing that I tried the castless dwarf origin and even though (for me) it wasn’t as good as the noble one I really liked the family relations in that one because it opened my mind to do some of my choices a little different. So the great point of origins was that if you liked the game enough to play through it all different times the variety of origins could give you a different perspective of the world. I never thought I would actually enjoyed the dwarves but I did... that said, I wouldn’t want it to be the only character available because for me it is a character that I can play but that I can´t relate 100%.

Only 5%? I would have assumed it to be a higher number; that 5% really know how to represent on these forums. ;)

I didn't try the dwarf origin; it really didn't interest me. I played the the dalish elf, city elf, mage, and once I figured out that my Cousland could marry Alistair, I played as a human noble every playthrough after that. What can I say, I was an Alistair fangirl.

Finished the Dwarf Commoner once and my character ran off Zevran.

Dwarf Noble did not interest me...could not finish

Completed a Dalish ending where Alistair and my character ran off to be Wardens

Completed 2 mages with a Alistair Warden ending and one where he's king and  my character is his Mistress

Completed 5 Cousland Characters with 3 weddings and two Warden endings

And I killed my character off a couple of times.

I confess that my only playthrough as a female, and as a Human Noble, was so I could marry Alistair. Plus there's this wonderful mod, where you can actually see the ceremony and well...

No I have one with a HN male, because I also want to marry Anora. :P (And, oh, Loghain as a father-in-law, there should be good times ahead)

But most of my playthroughs are elves. Several Dalish, including my "canon" Warden, one city elf and one Surana who ended up a naughty Blood Mage.

All this being said, the best origin I've ever played is the Dwarf Noble. Incredibly well-written, even though you end up greeting Cailan bare-foot. I wouldn't play a dwarve all the way, though, even if I'm curious to experience Orzammar from this angle. Not even in DA3 (<-- and this was me pretending to remain on-topic).

maybe but it would have to be different from DA O. There was little or no difference between playing as a human, dwarf, or elf.

Did you not pay attention to the game?  There were several instances where your race came up during the game.

I don't know but I have the funny feeling that whatever race Bioware lets us play around with, the trailers might be centered around a Rogue. DA:O had those fancy trailers with the Warden being what looked mostly like a (Sword/Shield)warrior. Everyone knows the first fancy trailer of DA2 was centered around a mage Hawke. So... Rogue.Could be, no?

The first game was more traditional so it marketed the traditional sword and shield warrior, second game had the whole mage vs templar thing so it marketed the mage.  It all depends on what they want to do with the third game when it comes to marketing it.  Just hope they make the combat more realistic and less over the top in the third game.

I love to play dwarves because it feels very comfortable. I am 5' tall and not an inch more. But instead of the default and only choice for DA3 being a dwarf, I'd just prefer the option of being any canon race and not being restricted to one in particular.

If they are going to make the origins again they should make the game that your race actually matters. In Origins they got away with it because you are first and foremost a grey warden, but still it was weak. Whether you were an elf, a dwarf or a human didn't really make any difference and that's of course wrong. Thats also why DA2 it would have been impossible to make the different races available as it would be impossible for an elf or a dwarf to become a noble (or at least that influential) like Hawke was.

I'd like to play a dwarf, if the story took place in somewhere outside Orzammar. Kal'Sharok, for example. Even the rebuilt Kal'Hirol, although that is extremely unlikely.

But most of all... I'd like to play as an elf. :P

You must have played a different Origins than I did.  There were several instances where your race came up in dialog and in the cases of most origins you interacted with characters from your origins again during different parts of the game.  What were you expecting?

I would rather play as a dwarf than a human, especially Hawke. Hawke was very dull to me, no matter how the character was played. At least a dwarf might add more flavor to the story.

Agreed. Humans are boring

you must be really easily satisfied. sometimes a vendor mentions your an elf, then you say: im a warden and then hes cool with it. which actually doesnt make sense since the wardens are outlawed.
Every origins has one or two characters you can deal with it. But orzammar as a DN is practically the same as with any other origin. Please name me the grand changes when you play anohter origin.

Now that is an ignorant lie,  the dialog is quite a bit different with both dwarf origins when you return to orzammar.  There are several dwarves that will mention your origin when you return as a dwarf.

Dwarves are cool and all but... I don't want to be forced to play as one, all races should be back however.
I'ld choose Elves or Humans as main characters for DA3, yes in DAO I only did origen with dwarves and deleted them the moment they hit ostogar meh.

I wouldn't buy any game where you're forced to play as a Dwarf, probably not even DLC. Just can't take them seriously as player characters (although I loved all the dwarven party members to date). it's the only origin from DA I've never finished. To be honest, as long as you have non-human party members available I don't mind just playing as a human.

If 5 percent of gamers didn't play dwarf origins, then I must be the one percent that had a dwarf warden as my canon warden, and even less then one percent as I made my CASTLESS dwarf my canon warden! I loved the dwarf stories and would love to have a game focused on them

However in the name of fairness I would request a return to origins so everyone can win

Yup, the dialogue is different depending on how you handled your Origin story.

Examples:

  • if you save the Shaperate scholar, his apprentice in the Hall of Heroes remembers what you did and is grateful, and vows to write the truth about you.
  • If you didn't kill Trian, then you get a chance to prove your innocence. Unfortunately, this means putting an incompetent king on the throne.
  • The Legion of the Dead references Trian's death
  • some of the nobility remember you.
  • Oghren knows about you.

But I'm always going to be pissed off that Xanthos Aeducan couldn't take the throne.

Even though I'd prefer elf I'd be cool with playing a Dwarf for DA3. Let DA2 be the game that forces you to be human and the rest focus on a different race each time.
Also, that would mean seeing female dwarves again!
Plus I forsee dwarves becoming very popular rather soon:

I can wait 5 years if they can make origins and a customizable character again. They could fix and optimize that toolset in so many ways it's funny.
