I'd like to play with a new character each game. I'd like the games to be self contained stories as well, with no save import system, no returning characters (except maybe a few minor ones) and no more references to the other games than things that should always happen, like people mentioning that the blight has been defeated or that the qunari have killed the Viscount of Kirkwall. Otherwise we'll be forced to play a pre-written story like DAII where every choice has the same result.
Would you rather have had Dragon Age a trilogy with the same character or an ongoing franchise with a different character on each?

A franchise appeals to me most. It allows Bioware to expand their stories to whatever they want. A series would just ruin it. That's what we have ME for isn't it?

Intersting question.
I prefer the world of DA as a whole over any character atm.
But i wouldn't mind a few games as one fleshed out character , as long as they are a Grey Warden.
Theres just something about being a Warden thats i find great, whether its that they are almost above the law or that they are truely Grey in their intentions and decisions.
Its kinda like Geralt the Witcher. Grey is best.

I wouldn't mind a return of hawke, as long as the story is better than Alladin in thedas.

As far as i am concerned DA is about the world not a single character, this was one of the mistakes made in DA2, it's called Dragon Age not Mass Effect

I would like a mixture of both, actually. Have it where you have two games that are strongly interconnected through a singular storyline with one main protagonist. Develop the hero and his/her companions through both games and when it comes time to move to the climax of the two story series, have a satisfying conclusion to that development. Therefore, when a new protagonist comes along, many of the "loose ends" of the previous chapters are tied up and explained well enough to have a conclusive ending.
Afterwards, when the overarching story comes into its climax and all of your protagonists come into play in some shape, way, or form, they will each play their own important role in the main conflict based on the choices made. I would imagine this would be nigh impossible with all the variables and our current budget/technology, but it would be spectacular nonetheless if it can be pulled off.

I would rather have both the Warden at least for another game and have other player characters. But all we got is Hawke, with the Warden's story ending on a cliffhanger. Seriously, it would have been better to just end the game with Origins' epilogue. Would not have complained. Much.

It's a bit different than that. The Warden can be multiple characters, not just one. Or at least more diverse than Shepard.

New character each game. I hope never to see Hawke again.

Pretty sure this has been explained by the DA team, but the series is about that time period in the world's history called the Dragon Age, not the heroes of any particular story in it. Contrast with Mass Effect which is all about Shepard.

Different characters. If the games are set in different places with different characters, you can learn much more about the DA universe. As long as each game has a satisfying conclusion, this type of series will have interesting sequels without feeling as though an over-arching plot is being dragged on game to game .

I have no problems with changing the main character. All of my complaints of the game could be summed up with the phrase "good but poorly executed ideas". I attribute the source of that phrase to be the short development cycle.

Short dev period, and trying to redo everything, or as what was said, a 180 from origins.

I think both. We really didn't need a 180 from Origins. I do like the story idea (actually that should be plural. I saw several just sparkling gems in the game).

Different protags, and then the final game in the series brings all your characters together as companions or mortal enemies, where they fight to the death or join forces for ultimate control of Thedas!
Also, Flemeth must save each and every one of them near the start of their respective games, and Sandal must reprise his role as a one-word merchant near the end of the game.

I don't think the Warden story got a proper ending, but I really didn't want to play him for a trilogy. We already know his end, he will go mad, and hopefully walk into the Deep Roads before that happens.
Hawke I just never found interesting. I kinda hope his is erased from the world. Sad thing is, I didn't like Hawke at all or his story, but I did love Varric, Isabelle, Aveline and Merril. I never want to play Hawke again, but if that happens that likely means I never see the companions again, a catch 22:(
Maybe they could make Hawke more interesting in DA3, a more proactive hero, than muddling around a town and major plot decisions being based upon people occasionally asking if he likes mages or templars more. Honestly after hearing Fenris and Anders whining constantly about it, I am mostly indifferent and want a few more bombs so I can blow up both sides and just start fresh with new things to do.
