Just thinking it's probably not a coincidence that the gist of the article is similar to several doom and gloom threads on these boards, even quoting the same kind of statements. There seems to be a growing unease about this.

If that is a true quote from EA's CEO then I am concerned.

This is old news actualy. Really old. Yes, the CEO said it and a conclusion was already made in another thread, it's most likely smart-talk about more people buying the game... for investors.
Also, I don't see anything wrong with Mass Effect 3 being an actual shooter instead of a bad shooter wannabee ME2 was. As long as the story level maintained (well... I hope better than in ME2) I'm cool.

a huge slam article taking random CEO's quotes out of context without any actual information about the game?
yeah....sounds like a great read...
save the doom and gloom crap for when we actually see gameplay footage. E3 is only a couple weeks away. no need to panic because they wanted to make the gameplay more fluid.
people are ridiculous these days...

Dude, that is just some nerd ranting.
You can find plenty of those kinds of "editorials" on this forum.

Oh look. Another uniformed third party makes gross generalizations and misinterpretations about a comment relating to ME3 they didn't understand.
DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING.

His extensive quote mining and lack of context means he's either borderline retarded or just a nerd with a keyboard and an axe to grind.
Meh, he should wait until he can play the game before starting to telegraph his impending suicide.

I think that anyone who mixes together popular game titles to sound witty needs to be ignored by society.

I'll sum up this editorial.
"DA2 was dumb, ME3 will be dumb too."
"DICE/EA are helping Bioware, Mass Effect is RUINED FOREVER."

It was a good read. People are terrified about them screwing up ME3 after DA2, and with good reason.

Do people really think that the game could be fundamentally changed by a 4-5 month delay?

If you are asking whether five months is enough to "streamline" RPG elements and re-do game mechanics to make it more of a shooter... then yes, I do.

This guy had a similar non-constructive rant before DA2 was released. Honestly, he should just go find some other games to play.

So what separates this as an "editorial" apart from just a Blog entry....?

It's remarkable how some of the so called "RPG hardcore fanbase" seems to think that improvements such as Audio FX that are generated based on where the gun is shot, and how far,
This "editorial" is nothing more than a gamer who's obviously firmly in "RPG is teh bestest" land and refuses to acknowledge that Mass Effect has never been just an RPG. This heavy bias towards RPG's can only hurt RPG's in the long run. How many Elder Scrolls clones will it take before they realize that inspiration and trying new things is a good thing?

If they want a an old-school RPG so badly, they can just play Baldur's Gate 2, shut the hell up and let Mass Effect stand on its own feet.

Sigh.
Yet another person taking what executives say to investors as the final truth about what a game coming out in a year will be, and how said truth obviously shows a whole company sucks.
What the hell do these guys think executives are supposed to tell to investors? That Tali is hawt? That, finally, fanboy X is now satisfied with the game, so the executive board's life's goal is now achieved? They want their money to be productive, and so await news that the franchise will sell more. It's only natural. We already have news of more customization and more RPG elements, so why all the doom and gloom over a vague statement made by a person not even involved with the game?
Seriously, people. Grow some damn perspective before panicking.
