*she's an independently powerful and competent woman
*she's pragmatic and morally ambiguous
*she's reserved and professional, keeping her emotional side to those few she trusts
*she's a woman, not a girl
*she's unapologetically sexual
*she's human
*she's genenetically enhanced, representing an advance for humanity
*she's larger-than-life herself, being a perfect companion for a larger-than-life hero like Shepard.
Honorable mention: Mordin Solus, Gianna Parasini and Kate Bowman.

I also like Ashley. She's the everyperson, the soldier who's just a soldier. People make a lot of her distrust of aliens, but Ash always said what she thought needed to be said and was willing to take the heat for it. She was also willing to revisit her opinions as she experienced new things. I didn't really like her "I'm a hellcat" routine so much when I played through as a male Shepard, but when I played a female I appreciated her humor and her plain-spoken nature.

Kaidan doesn't yell at me very often, actually. Then again, if you play a renegade you have to work to get him to go along with it. Unless you're talking about ME2, which I sort of don't blame him for. I've said before I wouldn't respect a man who just took my word for it if I said I came back from the dead. And I don't care much for Jacob.
But now that I think about it, Joker's probably the best one. Guess I just took that as such a given I didn't even mention it.

He doesn't get more mentions here because the LIs dominate the lists. But you're absolutely correct. I really like Mordin, and not just because he's funny. His LM brings home that there's always more than one side to a problem, and that reality is, as a rule, too complex for simplistic moral formulas.Warlocomotf wrote...
Mordin Solus, definitely. And I'm genuinely surprised he's not getting more mentions here. Such an interesting and intelligent character. His loyalty mission is my favorite part of the series so far; both sides of the conflict are easy to understand and relate to, and something that appears so malicious turns out to be just about the most compassionate solution to a very difficult situation.

She has a Ph.D. (or the asari equivalent), she can flay people alive with her mind...and she is the SB. I also love her as a party member.

always? did you play ME1 by any chance, or do you only have horizon to go by (and even then, he doesn't start yelling untill you confirm his suspicions about Cerberus)? As for Jacob being boring... indeed to each their own, as I personaly find him to be very interesting, whereas I find Tali for example to be exceptionaly boring.
as for the actual topic - honestly I have no idea. A lot of the characters are very well written, with interesting back stories, morals, conversations.. Mordin is certainly one of the favorites, but I won't call him THE favorite.
I'm going to pick Matriarch Aethyta becasue she rarely fails to amuse me, she seems to have a fair bit more depth to her then at first apparent all the while being refreshingly straightforward and honest in her interactions. like Mordin, she's merely one of the favorites, but I suppose I gotta chose someone

I played Paragon and in ME1 he always yelled at me... lol ...and would also not like many of the things I did EVENTHOUGH it was the Paragon choice...But I used him cuz of his decryption and healing. And then in ME2 he's even more of an ****. Screw Kaiden...And well Jacob, well he's boring 'ol Jabob. Miranda anyday cuz of her Overload. And yes agreed, Joker is AWESOME.

If you have subtitles on, all of his "sentences" pretty much end in exclamation marks. My other team member (Usually Liara) would always respond in a calm tone voice and then he'd scream to add his opinion on it. (Eventhough it was Paragon choices) ....... Yeah. =/ And Tali is awesome.jeweledleah wrote...

Ah, that explains it. I never play with subtitles on, and I played KotOR and Republic Commandos so maybe I'm used to Raphael Sbarge's performances. And, if you can't hear the actor, excessive exclamation points can get really annoying. Fair enough.

My favorite? A woman: honest and brave, cheeky and forward (in a positive meaning) with a good humor, independent and caring, a little stubborn but willing to rethink her attitudes. She never takes care if she pleases Shepard. But she cares for him and want's him to care for her and if he does she can show her vulnerable side. A tough soldier and beautiful woman, even in combat armor. By far, she's not perfect, but who is? Her flaws make her even more credible.
''I dont need money, a knight in shining armor or a man to make me happy, this is who i am....i like her *with a smile* and you best too''
Of course, i'm talking about Ashley M. Williams

As for Tali.. I don't know... I honestly don't get the appeal, to me she is bland and forgettable, the only reason she gets to leave the ship in ME2 is because of my deep appreciation for Chiktika Vas Paus.
P.S. Ashley can go paragon as well, if you talk her into it.

On another note the worst Character has to be Jacob, he just has no input to the structure or plot of mass effect.

In ME1 I wasn't too into her, but the stuff in ME2...Her loyalty mission was awesome, the trial was so passionate, a true demonstration of their friendship. And the cute stuff she says afterwards...And the fact she's just stuck in that suit forever (Without her getting sick)...It makes for a sad story!
