I've been playing thru my first arcane warrior and it's a pretty fun job I'm just having a bit of trouble gaining aggro to me, I usually get it about a few seconds then all the enemies charge after my other mages. any suggestions or spells that I can use to help, I'm level 9 wearing blood dragons armor set.

I had similar issues. I was duo-ing with Leliana, and I'd have her just sit still with stealth on (I had her along just for lockpicking and etc.), but as soon as she was hit with aoe and her stealth broke, she would get mobbed. This is while my arcane warrior is doing all of the damage, and wearing massive armor.
Having miasma on is supposed to help, though the aggro boost only takes place on hard+nightmare (I was on normal difficulty). Cleansing Aura is also supposed to help, though you won't have that until late into the game, since you obviously went arcane warrior at 7, and wouldn't have access to Cleansing Aura any sooner than lv 18.
It would help to have spells like force field or glyph of repulsion that you can cast on allies who might be in trouble, but without a taunt-like talent, an arcane warrior pretty much has to rely on damage to keep aggro, and your comrades would have to hold back more than if there was a warrior tank in the party.
Since arcane warriors are great at soloing, I wouldn't take a full party if I didn't think I could protect them all. I'd just stick with Leliana or Leliana+Wynne and make sure that Leliana kept stealth on at all times and Wynne was durable to take the hits. Also, make use of the hold command and have your allies stay back a bit when your arcane warrior opens doors.
Hand of Winter is awesome for aoe damage+an aggro source, though too bad it's not available in Origins. Most of the Awakening mage talents have arcane warrior written all over them.

Just got done playing an AW/BM myself. Think of it in 2 parts u generating threat, and the party reducing it without sacrificing damage. Also note u cant grab threat 100% of the time, live with it, Run around with the healer some and get her away. Play Nightmare, once u beat the game then its time for nightmare IMO to make it exciting.
-Read this: http://dragonage.wikia.com/wiki/Threat
-Use disengage, mindblast, stealth on other party members.
-Tactics wise:set party members basic attacks to the tanks target. thus using stuff like scatter shot and mana clash from other members when u can take advantage of it. This helsp alot, so your party isnt attacking random mobs and you can focus fire them down.
-Miasma helps, Blood Wound if you go Blood Mage at 14. Any AOE spell. I like Affliction Hex also.
-It gets easier to grab agro as u level I noticed.
- Distance from target effects threat.
- Make sure your attack is high so your not missing with your weapon, and use heavy armor.
-Pretty sure your magic score affects your spells ability to grab threat, read the wiki on it, but i went all magic til 90 or so before i dumped into con. None in Will, since u get 5 a level/up anyways.
I ran with me AW/BM, wynne, set as healer buffer only damage attack she had besides her staff was mana clash. Lieanna, with combat steath. and Oghren i made a DW tank also, but i could easily pull mobs off him with Miasma on and Blood Wound/Affliction Hex. He could grab them back with taunt was all. It didnt matter to me which of us tanked and it worked good, since i pumped dex on him and made him use 2 daggers, and went templar for 100% spell resist. Only time I lost aggro to him was when i got stunned and he didnt or he used taunt.

Get the spell glyph of repulsion. cast it over your mages, assuming they're standing together, and watch the aggro they get work to your advantage. Most of the time.
In terms of grabbing aggro, crushing prison's always worked well for me.
