Ohhh snap! And on that note...apparently the word a day calendar was not ambitious.

Now, while I don't think the story idea(s) were ambitious...I see their potential. Three great story possibilities... Weird, creepy thaig pointing us towards dwarves that did use magic.  Quanari invasion of Thedas once again. And the mage templar ho-down.  All three of those make me hunger for more on those story ideas.

As a wanna-be writer, I just know these are living and breathing on someone's computer, or at the very least, in their heads. Oh, how I long to talk to the writers unifficially. I know that it is just some fantastic, juicy, story telling right there. Because, lets face it, BioWare does have some amazing talent working for them. Rushed or no.

Glad you mentioned that ancient thaig!  I remember when I did my first playthrough, that part really did grab my interest... unfortunately, it was just used as a one-dimensional plot locale to push the idol into the storyline.  I wanted to know more about it, wanted to explore it more, find out what those ancient dwarves were doing.

But instead... we got what was apparently a lyrium idol that was actually a reaper indoctrination device that allowed Harbinger to assume direct control over Meredith in Act 3.  Posted Image

ROFLMAO!!!  Very true! The frustrated archeologist in me was dying for more clues as we traveled through it looking for a way out.

I just sensed something soooo much bigger, coupled with Sandal's weird "not enchantment" statment. Made me wonder if he was the lost child from some dwarven progenerators who used magic and still existed in thaigs even deeper underground. It just smacked of a big juicy story waiting to be told. Hell, it made me come up with a whole slew of ideas in my own head. ACK! The titalation! BioWare is such a tease!

I was at first.

Then after a while I traded it.... And i started to care less. It was a massive let down, and its still depressing when I think of what this game could have been....so I try not to think about it.....and then I popped back on these forums just now in my lunch break and im thinking about it again....

Sad face

It seriously has and for some reason lately I just can't let it go...

I think looking at the witcher 2 and Skyrim has really hit home for me what a disappointment DA2 was. They really did dumb it down in every aspect... add to that a total lack of attention to detail...

Its not a terrible game but it really is a terrible disappointment considering what it the wonderful world that DA:O had created.

Now I am worried about ME3, which I was previously extremely excited for... I am half expecting it to arrive with the remaining RPG elements removed, a main quest of 10 hours with no new environments and a crappy multiplayer (which no ME fan wants).

I have learned two good lessons though
1.) Don't pre-order games no matter how good the sequels were
2.) Don't get excited about games before you see credible reviews

Hasn't become an obsession for me. I'm just in denial that it even exists. Will never play it again. Happily I've just been advised that my pre-order of another RPG has been shipped and from all accounts this RPG 2 is as great as the first if not better and is in keeping with the original. Can't wait!

I think he put the binding spell on the thread like they do for Revenents.

In response to the OP:

The reason why I continue to frequent and post on the DA2 Forums despite being very disappointed in DA2 is mostly based on the combination of the feelings of hope and despair as well as lack of information regarding the future of the DA franchise.

See I am hopeful that Bioware will listen to all these complaints that we keep posting, that they will bear them in mind when creating the next DA game, making it a true sequel in spirit to DAO but I am fearful that they won't listen to our complaints unless we keep pounding it in.

However

It should be noted that this hope/fear is mostly due to lack of information regarding the future Bioware wants to take Dragonage in. If Bioware were to give out firm details on DA3 then one way or other I would not feel the need to frequent this forum as much as I do.

If Bioware posted their plans and it seemed to address most of our complaints then I would leave happy and possibly even pre-order DA3 without worry.

The reverse is also true:

If Bioware were to post their plans and it seemed to contain most of the follies that were present in DA2...well I'd leave this forum and wouldn't bother returning. I'm not the type to bang their head against a wall once a firm answer is given. The DA franchise would be dead to me and I'd spend my time elsewhere.

Yep, feel the same way. Of course, I understand that they may not be able to say something yet, for whatever reason or reasons that I may not be aware of. I would love some indication that the constructive criticism and the reviews (not the flame war stuff that has been all over the place here).

It used to be, but not anymore. I've moved on to bigger and BETTER, i reiterate, BETTER, games than Dragon Age 2 such as L.A. Noire and The Witcher 2.

DA2 though having some obvious flaws is a good game overall with some of the best companions and companion interactions of any Bioware game. Excelllent replayability.

As for the reacting to if a person thinks a game is bad, I've had my share of bad game experiences but I simply move on and forget about it other than the oddd post about it. I certainly don;t hang out on a game forum just to blast a game I stated I didn;t like for weeks or months on end.

I'm mostly on the ME2/3 side of the board these days because I feel like I've had my say about not liking DA2, and since it's not on my computer anymore and I can't see myself ever reinstalling it, I'm done with trying to communicate my feelings about it.

I also still like Bioware as a company, and I'd like to think of this as an anomaly.  I'm not so much a "hater" as a "disliker".

No, it has for many I would bet.

/V/ is a fine example of such people. That effort is made to attack the game with the same sort of nonsense that was going around and wrong before release is insane. I can't imagine what would motivate such people. It's can't be trolling since it almost always becomes a circle jerk. Did they not play the game is hating it now done purely to hate it?
Don't mistake me, the game is flawed. I understand why it is disliked by some and agree with many of the reasons for such opinions, even if I do not view these flaws as game breaking. I like the game. Good, but not something to hold up as particularly amazing, or bad for that matter.

But if you hate the game for something that isn't true or unrelated to the game or hold such nothings against the game, then you need to take a step back.

It pretty much crapped all over a fascinating world DA:O had built. Literally only the Gallows in Kirkwall had any attention to detail. Everything else felt generic as hell, and they made quite a few changes that I didn't like in favor of a more actiony experience.

They treated me like a child, and I didn't appreciate it.

luckily, better stuff is out. L.A. Noire is a great game. RDR is still better, but hey, it's definetly up there.

And Witcher 2 is great so far as well.

I'm guessing he means Red Dead Redemption. The game that tempts me to buy a console.

How did they not hire an independent developer to port that for them?

I have a console, but I no longer use it because I find I just don't enjoy console gaming.

Neh, done with complaining about it, Now I moved back to my usual "lack of DLC"-complain. Makes me wonder if complaining ever accomplished anything. :/
