but seriously...thats cool. it would be TOOOO wierd in a universe as big as ME were everyone was related (or knew everyone else) in someway. If i wanted that i'd watch Star Wars episode 1-3 and the Clone Wars animated series!

Well, Miranda's last name changed when they decided to get Yvonne in to be her. Could be they've finally cast an actor for the role and in similar vein decided to change the character more to suit his voice.

I think it was possible that there was originally the intention of making James related to Kahlee. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think that possibility had mixed reactions. Bioware is sneaky, they knew that would be an immediate speculation by the hardcore fans, so they used it as testing waters, knowing they had way more than enough ample time to change that if the reaction wasn't what they hoped for.

They probably checked the wiki and realised that there was already a character in the ME universe with the surname of Sanders.

I doubt they ever really had any intention of making him related to Kahlee (as others have said, it'd be kind of lame for this vast galaxy of ours to turn into some inbred village where everybody's related to everybody), so changing the last name is just nipping the speculation in the bud.

...Also, Vega's a pretty badass name. Very sci-fi sounding.
