I like the name Vega, it sounds more interesting than Sanders. And considering ME's human population is supposed to be all multi-racial, it makes sense of have a variety of ethnic backgrounds.

In my head the name change somehow amounts to James Vega being the Big Ben Sniper.

I realize there is no logic/reason to support this, but I will stick to my delusions.

They already said James Sanders/Vega is not the sniper from the trailer.

A bit of a weird name IMO, James Vega. Ah well, we'll see how he turns out. Would be interesting to know why BW changed the name. Didn't they realize the confusion the name Sanders would cause? Also, didn't VO work already start? I wonder if they have to re-record anything because of this.

Not really.  Give this a try: search Google for "James Vega" and exclude "Mass Effect".

I'm really glad BW ditched Sanders and went with a new last name for him. Yeah, irl you have people with the same last names...because you have that many people irl for there to be some crossover. But in a game setting? No reason for it. And Mary Sue Sanders is a huge pita in the books...I couldn't stand those books...and I'm really glad James Vega has cut any ties with her. Very smart move on BW's part.

This. I hated anything relating to the books and felt that they ruined the games (i.e. Saren being the un-redeemable douchebag was one such moment, ditto on Kahlee, TIM being a moustache-twirling villain)

If they weren't even done designing the character when they told Game Informer his name I don't know why they would have to re-record anything.

I really hope they release a screenshot of James soon, because I'm getting a bit tired of making ME3 comic doodles when I have no idea what the new squad mate looks like! All I can do for now is draw a guy with an oval head and a question mark on his face:mellow:.

People only like the name James Sanders better because they are used to it I reckon. Wait till you've finished Mass Effect 3 and you won't be able to imagine it any other way.

"Vega" is sexier than "Sanders", I think. I imagine him totally different now.

(and no, I'm not turned off because of the "steroids" thing, I have a soft spot for bodybuilders xD)

I like Sanders more as a surname. Why not call him Domingo Chavez instead? Sounds even cooler (despite the possible copyright strike from Tom Clancy).

Someone misspelled the name as "Vegas" somewhere and I fear that from here on out, he'll be dubbed Jimmy Vegas in my mind. D:
