Old news is old news. But don't tell Elite Midget, he still thinks the rest of the ME1 cast was screwed over.

Just because they got shiny new positions doesn't mean they weren't screwed over.
It's one thing to say that elite goes overboard but its another thing to say there isn't any
truth about what he is rambling about.

Kaidan does outrank shepard in mass effect 2 btw.

Or maybe just promote Kaidan to the rank of Commander instead, so they're equals.

The problem with that is Kaidan is already a Staff Commander in ME2, and Shepard is a Lieutenant Commander. He already outranks Shepard.

Yeah, no.

Not really seeing anything to contradict what King said. Kaidan is a Staff commander in ME2 and Shepard's last rank before Spectre/death was Lt. Commander.

yeah i haven't finished my "outrage cycle" at the sudden lowering of spectre recruitment standards just yet, thanks. <_<

this.

they can change a person's name...they can easily take away a logo and title. I dislike the idea a great deal. so far...this is the only bit of news and/or speculation that has left a sour taste in my mouth  in regards to ME3

I was really depressed before, because I found out that Blasto is fictional in-game. :(
I hope the wiki was lying...

Ha, imagine the Elcor

Elcor: Aggressive battle cry; I am elcor *Stomps merc into ground*

My Shepard would try riding on him like a Persian War Elephant.

After losing four Spectres, the council is apparently hiring anyone with a gun.

And Kaidan does outrank Shepard in ME2, but Alliance ranks don't mean **** to a Spectre and the Savior of the Citadel.

Well I already knew by this point it was confirmed.
To be honest I can't deny it isn't a little bit cool knowing that in Mass Effect 3 I'm going to be talking to the Council Spectre Ashley Williams. I'm not sure if it makes sense from a storyline perspective but still they've made Liara the Shadow Broker, Wrex into the emperor of all Krogan, Garrus into Batman, Anderson into a badass... might as well make the VS into a spectre while they are at it.

Seems reasonable enough.

Technically in ME2 Shepard isn't in the alliance military anymore, on account of having been dead, right? I mean she can still be a Spectre if you do that thing, but the whole reason they send you to do Arrival is because you're not officially part of the Alliance military anymore and thus your actions can't be blamed on them.

I know it's kind of a grey area, but I got the impression that you're like... totally freelance now.

yeah thats my understanding too.

i think you'll be a freelance agent in ME3 and kaidan / ashley will be your "handler" for the alliance/council. make sure you dont do anything crazy and while they'll outrank you (maybe) you'll still have operational control of the mission.

Wasn't Kaidan a Lieutenant in ME1?

And do you honestly think Shepard wouldn't be a Fleet Admiral, or at least a Captain if he wasn't just arbitrarily connected to the Alliance.

it still feels like if wedge antilles showed up one day while the jedi academy was on yavin iv and said he was a jedi. wedge is a bada** but he aint no jedi. it just aint right..unless you take out the mysticism of the force and replace it with bacteria-like midichlorians then ANYONE can be a jedi...with a transfusion and/or dialysis.

for me...it just takes something out...from the image of the spectres (and what a big deal it was for shep...US...becoming one in ME1). if it happens during ME3 cool beans..i can dig that. if happens before...im not game..i'll loath the idea. First gonna have a tough time having VS back as squadmates (ESPECIALLY without some kind of "less than comfortable" conversation/dialogue choices) ..but then to have them show-up as galactic, and legally recognized, bada** mofos straight from the get-go? Nah man! gonna be hard to swallow. but thats just how i feel bout it.

Shepard is either Freelance or a spectre in ME2. Ie:Not part of the alliance so Kaiden can't outrank him/her.
If Shepard does return to the Alliance in ME3, I bet he'll be promoted too.

I respect your opinion. It is straight up.

They helped save the galaxy in ME1, and presumably worked super hard in the last 3 years. And I dunno how much you guys used them as squaddies in ME1, but they were damn good at what they did. Ash was a tank that never died and Kaidan was a jack of all trades that could do so many useful things.

if VS does out rank Shep.....yet we will still have some of the squadmates from ME1 and ME2....who do you think they will listen to? Shep of course. Alliance ranks between Kaidan and Shep is irrelevant...unless it creates some head-butting (literal and figurative)....ROUND goes to Shep...AGAIN!!

SHEPARD WINS!!! flawless victory

Kaidan was canon-wise an exceptional biotic. And Ash's merits as a soldier were second to none.

They are more than capable, that's why they were both able to make sure that bomb went off on Virmire.

I think it's great that Ashley/Kaidan were made Spectres. After mopping the floor with Saren and Sovereign in ME1 I think they've earned it.

But I suppose I'm in the minority with that opinion.

A Spectre serving under another Spectre (if you decided to renew your status in ME2). Interesting.

Also, Kaidan seems to be a Captain now, as opposed to being a lieutenant in ME1. Look at them gold bars on his collar :P

I wonder what rank Ashley holds now? What's after chief? Master Chief? LOL

Image IPBKaiden now IS NOT CAPTAIN BUT STAFF COMMANDER,Joker tell you that when you talk to him after Horizon mission.

Considering how the handled Ash and Kaiden on Horizon they were essentially interchangeable VS so if Kaiden is confirmed spector then so is Ash though I think it's dumb on their part they like Garrus aren't qualified for the job and stress that it entails. Them being promoted a rank I could live with Spector is BS political move.
