Linky

Had heard/read about parasites that can affect animal behavior, but this is a pretty extreme thing for a fungus to do.

I saw a program about that on the Discovery channel. I want to modify that fungus to work on humans!

I remember seeing this on Planet Earth. Thank god it can't infect us like that...yet.

Scary stuff. That would start the zombie apocalypse if it passed on to humans alright. Quickly, someone hand me a can of Desenex!

This also reminds me of the Thorian from Mass Effect. Interesting, in any case. Downright ingenuous, actually. The mechanics of certain life forms are as fascinating as deadly. Should we really be trying to duplicate that process as a form of pest control, though? That might have serious ecological consequences.

"Hughes said his continuing research at Penn State is designed to learn how the fungus might be used to control pest insects in homes and farms"

Call me oversensitive, but I think that killing them like that is a bit cruel. Sure they are insects, but still... Well I guess bug spray ain't a much better way to die.

So if you get infected you go fuzzy?

If i saw anything with a plant growing out of it's head coming towards me, i swear to god i will kill it.

I have a fear of plants and this just intensifies it. Ever since i watched Jumanji, i hate plants with hairs on it, or massive flower heads that look like they can eat you.

Seriously, i am scared to touch plants.

An example of my fear: http://www.google.co...aqi=g10&aql==

I refuse to stand ever near this demon plant.

I felt really really uncomfortable watching the 3d images of buds growing out of the dead bugs.

I watched it several months ago. Disturbing but enlightening.
Nature does its work and you should adapt with it.

Whats Even worse is if you read the article in the OP, it say companies are looking it to how this can be used as a type of pest control. One can only image what will happen when scientists start to alter the Fugi's DNA.
