please develop an expansion. i am not paying for any DLC.

Didn't the game only just come out? And isn't an expansion just the same as DLC? Ultimately it's a means of earning more money from an existing property. Not that there's harm in that, it's nice to see a game's life extended by expansions and DLC.

Can I also say that some DLC can be excellent and really add to the game? For anyone who has ever seen Mehrune's Razor, you'll know what I mean. Don't be so cynical Dragon Age fans! =)

I think that it depends.

I'm gonna get 2 games as examples:
1) Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction - It added things like: new items new quests and a new Act (5). You could go back to previous Acts (1-4) and still do all the other quests. So In my opinion, D2:LoD looked like a huge DLC.
2) NeverWinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer - It was a whole new game, but continuing the story from the first one. You visited just few areas of the previous game, almost all your companions were new and you got all those extra things like new items new quests and new areas to explore. It didn't look like a huge DLC, but just like a real expansion.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm almost ending the game as I mentioned on my previous post and I'm not interested in DLCs that add new items/quests but keep the same areas. I want something like NWN2: MotB, a similiar but still a new fresh game. Unfortunately I don't think that this will happen anytime, so I will have to wait a long time before DA2 :)

NEW DLC ANNOUNCED - Known as Return to the place you previously left after watching an epic battle that you were not involved with!

In the all new DLC you can expect to engage in fearsome combat with... All the same monsters you've faced previously in an entirely old area with fancy new textures and old but re-textured weapons in a quest that should have really been in the game before it was released but we figure'd there are enough idiots out there to buy pieces of a game as opposed to the full and complete product... Damn don't we wish we'd thought of this with BG2 imagine all the money we could've made selling Trademeet, the Tethyr forest and other sections one at a time.

Anyway enjoy playing the entirely old area and fighting all the same monsters over again with the all old re-textured weapons.

The game was complete without this.  I guess next you will say they should of added Orlais, Nevarra, and the Free Marches, without those countries the game is not complete.  Oh, and since Zevran is from Antiva, I guess we should of been expected to explore that country as well.

I will enjoy exploring Ostagar, as we only were able to travel to the entrance of it. Also expanding the lore and listening to more banter from companions is definitely the big selling point for me.

While the DLC sounds interesting, though I will likely put off getting it until such a point as with Oblivion that they're all released on one disc ala Knights of the Nine or something. I still do not under stand..

Why this couldn't have been released after the patch?

The patch is important, there's enough weird problems that shouldn't have gotten through Q/A let alone taken this long to fix and we're getting a DLC before the patch?

Couldn't this have been put off a week or two and the patch come out first? It's like buying a really nice car, that leaks, veers left and the windshield wipers are missing. Is the car still fun? Sure, will I want to get the whitewall tires? Probably, but I'd rather have that leak fixed, the wheels aligned and get those windshield wipers installed first.

Is that a retextured Starfang I see?

Come on, BioWare. At least include some original content.

^ This. And oh look, retextured massive armor, just like every other armor in the game except ooo wait it's gold! Woo hoo!

ProTip: Guess what all the DLC has been so far? Bits from the original game that were removed to supply us with fake 'DLC' so we have to pay more! Yay!

Just like every other gaming company, right?  Damn you Bethesda, Rockstar, and every MMO maker.  All the content was made, but you just sit on it to make more money with it later.

D2:LoD added many hours of extra enjoyment for me. I played that to death. It also was at least as long and involving as previous acts and added an entirely new dimension to the story. That's a bit different to most DLC, which tends not to touch story. But you're right, DLC is simply expansion packs by another name. Albeit, generally downsized expansion packs. That's not to say a full fledged expansion won't come out.

Look at Shivering Isles for Oblivion. It's exactly the same kind of expansion as the NWN2 one you mention there, but the time in between saw much DLC, of varying kinds. Some short and inconsequential, some really adding to the game. I expect that's what we'll see with Dragon Age. Either way, it'll be win/win for most DA players.

Still, I find it ridiculous that within two weeks of DA's release, people are in a furore that BioWare have announced a new DLC rather than an expansion. That's not the way things work...in any entertainment industry. Isn't it enough that we all just played this fantastic new game? Do we have to be so ungrateful that Bioware are doing more for those among us who want to play it a little more?

As I understand it, doesn't Bioware have a small team dedicated specifically to the creation of DLC? I would guess that those responsible for patching are still beavering away at that by themselves. And they're not doing so badly, they've already managed two of them in a couple of weeks. Things will be right soon enough.

Keep the DLC coming, I'm buying. Hopefully you can allocate some of the incoming DLC funds to free patch development for bugfixes and improvements for everyone on every platform.

Those will come in time, it seems that right now they just want to flesh out the main campaign to where they originally wanted it but did not have the time to do so.

I think the most important question is why the past two DLC's have involved lots of snow.

I think the answer is because bioware loves me.

@andruman, @yullyuk, @nisallik I agree :)

it would be nice if we would get small DLC right now then big DLC (Expansion) right after and small DLC untill next ...

This way everyone would happy :) We will not have to just sitt and wait with nothing new, because of short DLC and major release would make everyone very happy. (I don't talk about pricing)

I must admit I'm a bit torn on the subject of DLC.

On one hand, I like the idea because you slowly add more content to your game gradually, increasing its longevity. It's always nice to see your favorite game updated often, and the Maker knows Dragon Age has become one of my favorites. Or perhaps, it was missions etc that were intended to be in the final cut but didn't make it due to time and budget constraints (sub-terranean base and abrupt ending in KOTOR 2, anyone? And YES I know Bioware didn't develop KOTOR 2). Plus, all new material requires money to make, so its only fair you pay for at least some of it.

On the other hand, I often get the feeling that all this content was developed beforehand and was cut out of the game on purpose and advertised as "new content", and this may or may not be Bioware's decision. Paranoid idea, or not? The problem is - we don't, and will never, know.

I'm a bit sceptical and cautious when it comes to micro transactions and DLC. Is it truly new and worthwhile content, or is it just content that should have been in the game and purposefully cut?

To be frank I'm quite excited. The armour seems interesting enough and there seems to be some sort of Character developement. Truth be told though, I wish they would just make a real expansion or a bigger DLC. I would love to go to Antiva where you could get more assassination quests and get to become part of their world. Perhaps add Antivan Crow, or child of a **** in antiva, as an Origin for Elves and Humans. Of course this would make for a pretty large DLC. I would also love to see more origins, I missed the human farmer.

Wouldn't it be awesome if Qunari was added as a race and you would have a new origin as a restult. And my final idea is a DLC that would unfold the secrets of the Chasind in some way. I really felt teased when I barely heard anything from them in the game. For now, I'm gonna get this DLC because I want to keep on playing DA:O forever. My advice though:

- 2 expansions.

- 5 DLC's of this size, or a bit larger think Bethesda or a bit smaller maybe.

But I think you all agree when I say that we want more substance in the next effort at pleasing the fans.

31 and going nowhere...still, however I believe we all agree in a couple of points:

A considerable amount of ppl will buy if it's quality is on pair with the game and is of reasonable length...

Now we just need to define quality and acceptable length...

If I red right there is also a new companion NPC, this may be very good, since it will bring a personal story (or not...) and will reflect on the game after Ostagar...

Anyway, I'll just wait for a brave soul (or rich...) to buy it first, and to draw some conclusion after...

Speaking as a ex mmo player for 4 years and 3 years of that on wow, the fact you have a pick of stuff to download or buy, you should be thankfull cause in this day and age, nothing is free and you don't live in the real world if you think bioware/ea or any company will give things for free.

Blizzard have of late started charging £10 for a non combat pet, one which half goes to a good cause for 2 months, but the flames and rage from ppl was unreal.

Yes games like wow and few other mmo's offer patches which has alot of content, but 4-6 months paying whatever you pay to play on these said games, means you in the end are paying 3 times as much to what say bioware has offered as DLC content.

And ofc ppl forget the grind and months of farming just to get what you want, if your not happy with what bioware offering, two things you can do, 1. download the toolkit and make your own content, dragon age the first game in best part of 3 years that had me griped, and i don't often buy many or if any substanded games over past 20+ years, getting mass effect next week so i'm ready for me 2.

2. wait for player made content and patches from bioware, which will take some time but will be worth the wait.

My point of view but if your not funded by your family's credit card, its win/win but ofc if you are funded by your family's credit card, don't **** and whine cause god help you when you have to start paying council tax :P (in england ofc)

Thanks Bioware, will buy it.

Btw. I do wonder if the people (in both camps) call eachother idiots for a difference in buying something or not would do the same thing in a store

client 1. Doh 25 bucks for that trouser..

client 2: Hey nice one.. i buy it

client 1: Sucker!!!! Idiot!!!!

Or is that the difference between being anonymous on the net and having to face someone in RL?

Couldn't agree more.  I saw this DLC content and I was like .. 'yeah, another armor type for warriors... grand', and here's my mage still stuck in Chasind robes for the last 11 levels.
