This kind of DLC is the death of actual content.

If they can sell you a nice sword (Wardens Keep), nice sword and Armor (Return to Ostagar), what financial incentive is there for actual NEW STORY content? None.

It takes comparitively little effort to plop some monsters down in an existing area and whip up some items in the toolset.

It takes a lot of effort to actual craft a new tale.

If you can sucker people into paying over and over for new items in an old tale, there is no point doing a new one.

Sweet. I wasn't expecting them to start pumping them out so soon. I'm all for it.

then i suggest quit gaming, DLC has been prevalent the last 1.5 years and will continue to be. 5 hrs for 5 hrs of DA sounds liek a good deal to me, better then oblivions Horse armour.

that is an option that is certainly on the table for me.

i enjoy PnP games well enough. as much as id like to keep on gaming i will not become a cow to be slowly milked to death by the changes in the industry. developers and publishers have been gradually becoming more and more faceless corperations whos only consideration is to suck every last dime nickel and penny out of gamers that they can. that is not why i game. i game because good developers make great games that they see as fun, imaginative, and priced in a way that they see as fair.

this era appears to be disappearing, and many of the old guard like myself will likely be disappearing with it, if that is the case. i have no interest of being on a slow drip I.V. for the gaming industry for the rest of my life.

Do not make moronic assumptions, i ahve been a PC gamer since DOS was the dominant OS, space quest, police Quest, kinds quest, Gold rush, etc... I do not mind DLC, it is optional, if i dont want it i dont buy it, you still got 100 + hpurs in DA vanilla. People are afraid of change.

did i say anything about you in that post? even one single spcific thing?

"...and many of the old guard like myself will likely be disappearing with it."

He's pointing out he's a member of the "old guard". Also, I started gaming on the PC with Pools of Radiance in 1985. Not going anywhere here either.

Here is my opinion on the matter. Opinion and Conjecture, so flame away.

If BioWare were to dump all their resources into developing a new campaign, there would be no time for Dev-produced DLC. A new campaign takes time to create. And people would be complaining to high heaven about the "lack of new DLC." (I put that in quotes because the game has been out ... what ... 2-3 weeks and people ALREADY ARE complaining about lack of dev-dlc.)

So, BioWare decides to take a little break from the Big Projects and crank out some quickie DLC to keep people interested, to give their devs a break, and to give the team TIME to figure out what a good 2nd campaign would be. This stuff isn't free, so they charge a small fee (and $5 is small) to recoup some of their time. And yet people still complain.

I'll be getting it, if for no other reason than to show my support for the game and to vote with my dollar that I'd like to see more. When purchases go below a certain level, then it will show a "lack of interest" in future DLC/expansions and will tell management to change the priorities of the dev to to some other project.

Again, just my opinion.

Exactly, so how do you even pretend to know what they will be like or how long? Your just believing what you want to, you have no way of knowing.

and neither do you. ive at least provided some reasoning for my opinion other than "it's only $5 you tards!"

It seems to me that you are making the assumption that there wont be more indepth content released as expansions, because they are releasing a lot of DLC over the next few years. Using every other Bioware fantasy rpg as a guide says otherwise. As does taking into account how much effort and time they put into creating this world and its histories.

bioware RPGs never had DLC before Mass Effect. and Mass Effect had no expansions.

(discounting the very different approach that was NWN, that is)

As i said, fantasy rpgs. They all had expansions, right? Do you really think that Bioware spent 7 years developing this game to only release one indepth game and no expansions?

i think they're going to release only DLC and then a sequel. i might be wrong, but this is what i am expecting from it.

Nothing but baseless assumption and speculation, at leasy wait for facts before whining and panning it.

Since this looks like it was just put up, I say we use the patented "Wait and See" method. It has promise, and I really have enjoyed the Dragon Age world...more is a good thing as long as it fleshes out the world and isn't just trying to make a quick buck. In my opinion, it looks like Bioware put alot of work into this world they created, and I hope they continue to fill it out, they left plenty of strings to be followed in the world. I just have fears that this may end up becoming perhaps another Bungie/Microsoft relationship.

here is to hoping it is all worth it in the end.

Oh yes, eventually the cost of the DLC will amount to the cost of the entire game. How terribad. My lunches and coffee breaks amount to the cost of the entire game within the space of one week. Awful, just awful.

Better analogy...

Snacks.

I'm hungry between meals, I eat a snack.  Going off the same logic as the opponents to DLC, I shouldn't eat snacks because they're not the same as regular meals.  If I buy enough snacks, it's going to cost the same as a steak dinner.  So I should save my money and wait for the steak dinner vs. satisfying my current hunger with a small snack.

DLC, no DLC... What's the difference? It's money and you'll spend it or not depending on whether or not the content tickles your fancy.

But I've seen so many folks with problems stemming from their DLS getting borked (can't download, can't authorize, can't use, disappears) that it seems a little premature to announce more DLC before those issues are fixed.

Well, my thought on it is that they will continue to release light dlc like what we has seen up to now, perhaps a couple longer ones, and then in a year or so we will get an expansion that takes the story to other parts of their new world. Perhaps involving parts of what we have been involved in up to now. I hope to see and wouldnt be surprised to see, two official expansions for DA.

so many whiner's here.... For all of you that hate DLC...quit gaming now please, cause it isnt gonna change. They make it, it sells, and you whiner's are in the minority, i can damn well guarantee that. So if you dont like it, pick up another hobby cause, like it or no, DLC is here to stay.

They should becasue you say so, yet millions already downlaoded DLC? If the demand is there, the DLC will be as well. Who says an expansion wont come as well, the chances of an expansion are quite good, nothing wrong with putting out smaller, fresh content in the mean time.

The reasoning of the supporters is pretty solid as well.
BioWare is charging five dollars for what will probably be a couple hours worth of entertainment in an area that actually means something to your character, and some members of your party. It was a great game, people enjoy the Shale DLC, which was free. We got ONE ok DLC which people complained about, so BW is releasing a new cheaper one and you're going to refuse to play it, with no knowledge about whether it's worth the time or not.

I personally have yet to be dissapointed by Bioware, and if they want some pocket change in order to entertain me and bring me into a lore-rich area, so be it.

BWHAHA
Take advantage? Someone is taking advantage by releasing OPTIONAl, 5 dollar dlc? LMAO, heard it all.  Biowre are simply answering the demand, your in the minority i'm afraid, the demand for DLC is just providing what many want, and thats more DA content.

id pay 5 bucks for this, i think theres a lot of possibility here for a awesome new experience with kicking darkspawn ass. can you imagine the way the place must look after the dark spawn have been camping there for awhile, on top of that the destruction wrought in the battle, the place is probably totally different now.also, im sure theres more to it then just the kings armor im sure theres gonna be lesser new items, just the big thing is finding the kings armor, witch is pretty awesome, i cant wait to inspect each peace and read about the background on the making of a KINGS armor! and im sure there gonna put out more info on the DLC as it gets closer to release as well, the stuff listend probley isnt all there is to it. so everyone whos freaking out, relax! come on, it could be worse really. they could be not putting out ANYTHING patches, dlc, nothing, give these guys who are working hard for US for YOU a break and just enjoy the game, its not like all your whining and ****ing is getting you any where is it?

I'll say at least this much. Don't the warriors have enough toys and armor already? I want my mage to look cooler yeah? Nothing for mages? Oh well.
