I have precisely this same problem, and have not been able to find a solution.

True, it's not the most pressing concern as the game is otherwise fine... but it would be nice for it to work as intended. Still, great release for bugs, I've had no other problems.

Very strange. I know during testing we had various paper doll (the model of your character in inventory) and portrait picture errors, but I thought we had had them all fixed. I hadn't seen any in the PC version for quite some time. Perhaps that can help me narrow down this issue. It's the first I have seen it being reported (though the forum moves fast) so it seems like it might be a rare one.

Just to be clear DrHojo, the portrait looks all funky like that after you start tweaking the hair? Is this also how you got that problem Apoptygmaa?

Since two of you have the issue, some PC specs could help isolate the problem if you have similarities between your systems.

Hopefully you can still enjoy the game otherwise, but I'll definitely look into this further.

My pc version also will randomly have the paperdolls just disappear. The inventory screen except the paperdoll section is just black. If I don't save and restart, the game will crash shortly after usually. Coincidentally, if the paperdoll disappears, then building interiors also go black, except for the furniture.

This is along with the general texture corruption, like people's clothing flickering between two states, and the lighting flickering between states.

As an attempt to fix this, I lowered my textures from High to Medium, and while I haven't tested it much, this occurrence has lowered or disappeared.

Specs:
Windows Vista 64
Q6600
gf8800gt, using the newest beta drivers (problems also existed on the current released drivers)
Edit: Using patch 1.01a

Like someone on a different post stated mine also just 'fixed' itself. I swear this paper doll problem is connected to the graphics in Denerim, the entrance to that city is the first and only area of the game i've had any issues or crashes except for the paper doll carrying over afterward. Anyways, mine fixed itself after a very short time I'll tell you exactly what I did so maybe it'll work for you too. left Denerim for Orzammar bought crystals, left through main gate, auto save at Frostback Mountains, went to camp, CRASH, loaded Frostback save and everything is fine and dandy. Goodluck.

Yes it did Allan after i started to tweak the hair the portrait started to go all messed up it also dose it when i try to move the portrait but when i start the game its fine agen but slowly starts to get messed up (dont know why) ask for my system requmants i know i can run it fine

Amd Athlon 2.60 ghz (rated to be as fast as 3.77ghz)
1.7gb Ram (game requires 1.5gb for vista so that was lucky)
and for the grapichs (chipset in my case) Nvidia GeForce 7025 / Nvidia nForce 630a 889mb

i know that the chipset is probly not suported but the game runs fine alittle lag now and then wish i can live with but still the messed up inventory and portrait is kinda anoying but at least the game is playable.

Bump- I got the game a few days ago, first thing I installed to a new pc. I'm using and older video card, but I've fived most framerate and graphics issues. The exception is that the ragdolls and portraits are corrupt in the same manner of the first post. If I create a new character the inital portrait looks fine but any change I make corrupts the portrait. The inventory ragdolls never look correct.

Windows 7 64-bit

AMD Athlon II X2 215, 2.7ghz

Geforce 7300 gs

3gb DDR2 800mhz

DA:0 v1.02

Your problem is that the 7300GS is actually not good enough to meet the minimum requirements.  You need at least a 7600GT to meet the minimum requirements for Vista (and based on my tests you "need" at least a 7800GT for Windows 7). The 7300GS was a garbage business-model card 5 years ago.  Today... it's time to upgrade.

Same thing happening here. Both Character portrait and inventory image are screwed up:
Image IPB
Portrait looks fine right after gender/race/class/background selection, but as soon as you make any appearance changes or just run the game it gets bugged.

System Specs:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ (2.6GHz, 3GB RAM)
NVIDIA GeForce 7050 PV / NVIDIA nForce 630a (512MB VRAM)
video driver: nv4_disp.dll 195.62 [6.14.11.9562]
Microsoft Windows XP Professional
DirectX 9.0c
Game version: 1.02

Any ideas? Or any other system specs you need?

Edit: Upgrading to a GeForce 9600 GT got rid of the glitch.

I have the same problem with my Nvidia GeForce 7300gs card installed in my PC. But during the game it is quite ok, only on inventory and portrait does having a tearing images problem. I have updated driver from Nvidia website but nothing has change. Can anyone know how to solve this issue? I have to say that ATI Radeon works better and much faster, no tearing images on inventory and on portrait.

Same thing is happening to me, I'm doing the quest for the sacred ashes and it started just after I met the dragon. Tried a few things but nothings changed soo far...really is a bother not being able to see equipment and such as I attribute it, plus the small character icons on the side of the screen slowly break apart during gameplay...sigh

Are you aware that you graphic card does not meet the minimum requirements for DA:O under Vista? If you go here, you can see that the minimum graphic card required is a 7600GT 256MB.

Furthermore, I have scrubed thru this thread and almost all posts here are also from users with graphic cards that do not meet the minimum requirements.
