To do this do you need to have Fenris still in your party by the time you choose between mages and templars? - like you do if you want Aveline to side against you. Or is it possible to have her side against you when picking Templars without Fenris and / or Isabela there?

I know alot of you probably think this act unspeakable =P but im going for the worst possible save, picking pretty much all the evil / bad choices lol
This is what im referring to btw www.youtube.com/watch. Do I need to have Fenris in my party to get this?

Merrill will leave Hawke's side if she doesn't have high Friendship or Rivalry if he decides to kill all the mages by siding with Knight-Commander Meredith, but the game makes sure that Hawke has at least one warrior and mage (like Aveline automatically siding with Hawke regardless of what her approval is if Fenris leaves the group).

And yes, it's unspeakable. =P

Thanks for the reply =D
But how does that work though if we choose Anders fate after we pick a side and hear our companions responses? What I was planning is to let anders go so that Sebastian could leave me to raise his army, then kill Anders later in the gallows. Would that still be possible while also having Merrill side against me?

The only time I've seen Merrill fight Hawke in the Gallows, the person who uploaded it on Youtube had Anders in the party.  So he must've console'd past the bugged Anders rivalry ending.  So I'd imagine it requires that.  Maybe if Hawke is a mage him/herself?  Don't know if that would work...

Gah, If only i knew lol. I will probably have to replay act 2 and 3 over again if I cant kill her and just romance her instead, since im going for the worst possible save I was going to romance isabela and kill the arishok (since she survives me handing her over anyway) and kill merrill at the end. But if I cant do that I will just hand Isabela to the Arishok and romance Merrill

Too bad you can't bust that stupid mirror over her head. Ended up slaughtering her entire clan because of her stupid obsession.

I just did it with my Hawke who rival'd Anders.

Bethany was a Warden so I'm not sure if that played a part.

Anders was sent running off (so he could die later), Merrill ditched me when I chose the templars even though Aveline refused to ditch me when I chose the mages >:( I hadn't done any of her quests. (Merrill's anyways, I had her in rivalry mode though. About 80%) Aveline was completely neutral.

If you're displaying sociopathic tendancies, no.

Hmm cool, what about your other party members like Isabela and Fenris? did you have either of them or were they both gone?

It shouldn't even be this complicated... I mean, who cares if you wind up with an unbalanced party? The game shouldn't take that into account when companions betray you in the end. Maybe the player wants to reap what they sow, and not be protected by these ridiculous safeguards. It's a real shame, because I'll probably never get to kill Merrill due to all the damned restrictions.

yeah it really is quite annoying, I mean if the player was really effected by a choice like this they could just reload anyway. I wish a mod existed that removed these stupid limitations. In origins it was possible to get through the whole game without a rogue in your party. And its possible to spend the final battle without any mages either.. Ahh good times

there is no reason to want to kill her. If you wanted to smack her I'd be ok with that, but killing her just makes me a very sad panda.

And when i'm a sad panda, I can't start my panda famiry now. (cookie to the person who knows what movie I'm talking about there)

I wish I could do this, but Anders always dies in my playthrough so the game keeps Merril in my party even though she hates me.

I didn't recruit Isabela. I did have Fenris though.

Because I hate her like I never hated any virtual person before.

Why can I just kill her?:(
Why can't  I beat her teeths out, peel the flesh from her bones, scatter salt on her wounds and let my Mabari eat her while still alive?

I am not Merrill's biggest fan.. but to quote Alistair "That just seems so excessive."

The thing is most people blame Merrill for what transpired with her clan, saying she doesn't know what the Eluvian can do and other such nonsense.

She does. She states not only in banter with Varric but in the beginning of Mirror Image how it was at the very least used to communicate between cities and that all elven cities had one. She doesn't know how, but then again this is a 2000 year old artifact from the times of Arlathan. Not even Ariane, the elf whose clan held a book regarding the Eluvian, knew what it was. So Merrill already knows a lot more than anyone else, and she knows if she can get it working it will help the clans out greatly.

People need to look past the blood magic (which isn't inherently evil) and the fact that she's socially awkward in a human city. She's only seen 1 human before, and that was Duncan, so the fact that she doesn't know how to act is natural. Amongst her clan she's more confident. Outside of it she isn't.

She definitely knows more than Marethari, or have people never heard of "the student surpassing the master"?

You know, sometimes you meet people you just don't like or get along with. It happens in real life as well as in video games... I don't see why it's that inconceivable or why it would require justification. Do I ask people why they don't like pepperoni pizza and try to convince them that their opinion is wrong? No. It's just a matter of taste, and frankly, I have never agreed with any of the reasons as to why she's interesting, lovable, or even useful.
