that's just annyoing not upsetting...Xilizhra wrote...
Not here, considering the general atmosphere. It's like being upset by mosquitoes in a swamp.
Merill does come as rather power hungry in many scenes...after Witch Hunt i can understand the power of the ELuvian but i like to RP my chars..so Hawke dosen't know or trust a weird mirror tainted...so Merill comes of in a not that good light

Well, some people find hate upsetting, and so they counter it.

You think we needed to be shown that? She's the second-most-hated companion in the game. In both games.

from what i saw in the game..never romanced her though....Merill is a walking cotradiction. On one side she wants to remake the eluvian and help the elves..on the other side she seems to be power hungry...forget the whole i am a cute girl and sound very naive...she wanted to make a deal with that demon TOrpor becuase it would gave her more power...and wanted to take the tomes instead of destroying them...
With Torpor there is a problem again.Merill claims she knows that all spirits are dangerous...then why is she always ready to believe everyone of them right away...Torpor was obviously lying..yet she didn't care..it's almost like she says...posses me demons..i don't care..me want power
she doesn't give you friendship points for letting Torpor possess Feynriel. She gives you Friendship points for using the demon to get what you want/need, which is more information on the two demons plaguing Feynriel.
She doesn't agree to letting Feynriel be fed to the wolf, so to speak. She likes how if you're careful you end up playing the demon. She journeys with you into the Fade to help save Feynriel (and to be a part of an ancient Dalish ritual).
Now if you dislike how she betrays you, that's because she was forced to believe what she knew was a lie. The demon did to her what the Sloth demon and his minions did to your companions in the Fade portion of Broken Circle.
Nothing is contradictory about her.

And why wouldn't she want more power?
Let's take a moment. Merrill is at the absolute bottom of the social heap. Her species is oppressed, and she has to live in fear of being captured by the templars, just for the crime of being a mage.
Faced with all that, it would make sense to seek magical power. Not to control others, but to stay alive.

Yeah she does. No really, I've tested it.

Too bad you can't bust that stupid mirror over her head. Ended up slaughtering her entire clan because of her stupid obsession.
The clan does not have to be killed in that scenario. In my last playthrough I chose "I will take responsibility." and the clan backed down and just told hawke and crew to leave.

If you return with Merrill in the party, they will attack with intent to kill.

If you return with Merrill in the party, they will attack with intent to kill themselves.

If you don't do the quest to get the Arulin'Holm in Act 2, is it still possible to do Merrill's Act 3 quest and rivalmance her?
You can do the q and then choose not to give it to her the Arulin'Holm.

But all that does is show that Merethari is breaking her deal with Merrill. She said she'd give Merrill the knife because she is dalish, but goes and gives it too Hawke and asks Hawke not to give it to her.
After hearing she actually gives friendship points for selling out Feynriel, I find it hard to fault anyone got not letting that idiot further her mad schemes.
