I'm trying to do the romance sub-plot with Merrill. During her first quest, Welcome Home, I am not gaining any friendship bonus when using the flirt dialouge option.  If I don't use the flirt option, then I do gain either +5 friendship or rivalry.

Is this a bug or is the romance meter seperate and something the player just doesn't see? I read on the DA2 Wiki that using the flirt option here can also lead to a permanant bug where it's impossible to gain any friendship points with Merrill.

Am I better off just going for the +5 friendship here or continue using the flirt option as was my preference?

Please advise.
