Is the 5-star system broken for everyone, or did I break it? I've got a few mods in the override folder but they're all for retexturing companion faces and/or DLC items.

Nah, it's completely borked. Ignore the stars, just look at what the equipment does instead.

It's working as intended.

It's just "as intended" is absurdly obtuse. Or obtusely absurd. Or both.

The star system pretty much only takes item level into account. For items whose stats aren't greatly affected by level (such as belts), this can cause strangeness like what you observed to occur.

It's completely broken for amulets, belts, and rings, and partly broken for weapons and armor. I had 3 amulets that gave +2 mana/stamina regeneration and nothing else, so they were identical in effects, but one was rated 0 stars, one 2 starts, and one 4 stars. Useless.

I saw this as well.  I bet there will be a mod to address this (if there isn't one already).

As I said, and as hoorayforiceream explained, it's not "broken." It works perfectly. It's just not a very good system.

Excuse me for being dense then, but what the heck does item level mean for three different amulets with +2 mana/stamina regeneration?  How is a 4 star amulet with the same effect any better than a 0 star?  How can I trust the star rating to tell me whether +2 stamina regeneration is better than +8 health?  Or +3% damage?  It's designed broken.

I think he is agreeing with you but not communicating it very well.  You are right the system does not work very well.  Whether or not it was designed that way is another matter.

well whether or not it's working as it was designed to, either way it's a complete mess and really could use changing in a patch
