no point, just a numerical score of the accomplishments u have made in the game. They arnt useful for anything other than comparing e-peen size like the poster above said.

Why did anyone think the devs meant the Christian holidays?

I mean nothing sings praises to our "lord and savior" than a DLC on Chistmas for the first RPG to openly promote threeways.

As for the whole achievement argument running circles, achievements have their place.

They're metagaming (that is to say, a game that exists outside of the primary one). Sure, there are achievements for completing the main quest but most are "beat x in y" or "do x in z minutes" or "unlock hot elf/witch/french sex".

They're not necessarily focuses of the game but they give that dropper to the lab rat gratification effect.

However, they're good tests to see if someone actually beat the game and as markers to unlock content.

Which brings up another point, Video games are one of the few mediums in existence that deny content until
you finish it (i.e. Costume unlocks, harder difficulties).

• Take Dostoevsky's "Crime and Punishment", there's no alternate retelling where Raskolnikov is a girl upon book completion.

• Fast Forwarding through a precise portion of Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" will yield a director's 5 hour cut.

However, games are a much more interactive medium. This is partly why there's a terrible difficulty in creating compelling narratives and characterizations in a game.[/b]

Cinematics are really just shoehorning another medium (animated film), taking away the essence of the primary medium (a game).

As hated as quick-time events are, they make sense in having those moments be interactive. Yes, they can be a pain but that's the price you pay for playing a game instead of renting a film: a challenge. I say this knowing God of War damn near left blisters on my fingers.

As far as I can tell, they're useless except to make your gamer score higher. Which is also useless except when playing "My gamer score is higher than yours", which in my experience doesn't get played very often.

Aahhh..  Well, since it really just boils down to Bragging rights, and nothing else.....  I think I'll stop even worrying about them.  Other than the magic ones & Game perfectionist.

143 pages of questions and replies is a bit much to wade through, so please forgive me when I ask, on the timeframe, are we still looking at 2009? I don't mind checking every day, however it would be much nicer if I didn't have to. I saw a post elsewhere saying the PSN has it pegged for December 29th this year, however, I think that if that were so it would be posted on the addon site.

I ended up getting them all just by playing the game and not even trying for the achievements. So you'll likely get them all too if you try all the different options out at least once just to see what happens like I did.

Gamespot is promoting ME2 big time now so that shows that someone has a plan and a schedule since they are already starting to push ME2 more and more on gaming websites...while lil ol dragon age falls behind, forgotten and not a priority now...even though ME is month(s) away the attention is on that game at Bioware...how silly of me....to not know where the priority lies at EA....
