I actually greatly enjoyed the shooter elements in ME. It's still your standard story-driven BioWare RPG, but it's got guns. Awesome guns. There are few things that make me cackle with glee, gunning down sentient robots with a shotgun is one of them.

I do that when playing Fallout 3. Nothing quite like decapitating something with a rifle. ^_^

May have to see if I can find a demo of ME somewhere so I can try it out before buying it. Hate to go and buy it and then only play it once for a few hours. DA is the first Bioware game I've played, so I'm not sure who you're talking about in KoTOR. I'm way behind the times I think.. lol

Really? my last pc, which was
also my first pc lasted for over a decade as well. I believe that
computer started with windows 93, then 95, then 98, and the cooling fan
was being held to the frame by some electrical tape and twine.. I think
we finally chucked that one uh.. three years ago.

This one is a sony, the OS is XP, and besides having a pent 4, it also has a Nevida TNT graphic's card I believe xD

Yep. My first PC was a Dell, which should explain it's early death pretty well right there. The power supply went out after three years and I had to get a new one. Then it worked fine, if slow, for about a year and a half. Then one day I woke up and it had died. The motherboard and harddrive got fried somehow and I lost everything that was on it since I hadn't done a backup in months. Lost lots of pictures of my kids that day..

The new one that I built has an EVGA GeForce GTS 250, an AMD Phenom II processor, and a Gigabyte motherboard. Loaded up some games on it that I'd had on the old PC and couldn't believe how much better they ran or how much better the graphics were. I had XP on it until 7 came out, then I upgraded. Blows my mind how much better this one is than the Dell was. Granted part of that is because the technology is better now than it was when I got the Dell, but still. I'll never go back to pre-built computers again. Much cheaper and I got everything I wanted without having to shop around and give up one part in order to get another.

I did some research, oh.. a few years ago, mind you, this was before even vista came out. But I found that AlienWear are the best as far as pure gaming PCs. However, I found that both HP and Sony will give you more bang for your buck. With Sony coming out to be more reliable then HP.

If I was going to buy a PC, I would go with a sony. As I said, my current one is a Sony, and its ten years old and going. Plus, I have had good experiences with their other products in the past. -shrugs- I dont think I have ever seen another mp3 player go through as much hell as I put mine through and still work ^^;;

But in any case, I am thinking of just building my own. I am not sure if I am willing to trade XP in for windows 7 however. XP is perhaps Microsofts best, and lest buggy OS of all time, and new PC games are still supporting it.. so I dont see a reason to change..

Alienware are not the best gaming PC's (unless you have no idea what your talking about).

For all their fancy gadgets and nice cases, you can build the exact same rig for 2K less if you know what to look for, where to buy it and how to fit it all together.

Please do not let them hype you up. Yes they are damn good machines, but your paying for all the uneeded whistles and bells. The core hardware can be got much much cheaper yourself.

As for Xp, yes by far the best OS MS has released, 7 is very very good, I love Vista (have 2 machines running Vista) but its no good for games (just too resource heavy)....7 is very lightweight when it comes to hogging valuable resources....

And as for DX11....you will want to upgrade trust me Image IPB

It was Bioware that decided to delay RTO not us console users!
and i have to say i hate PC users that almost always seems to feel sorry for them selfs when things get delayed and then blame others for it! like us console users..... that just pathetic!!

On a side note, I say a decade is still done the old school way. we had the 80s (80-89) and we had the 90s (90-99) and now we got the.. well I dont know what you call this new decade, but uh...how about the 2ks (00-09) so I consider the next decade, whatever it is called '10-19.. hmm.. that reminds me, y'all realize that after this NEXT decade, we'll be in the 20's again right? xD

it's cheaper to build own computer really, if you don't have good knowledge of parts, i'd suggest to ask some friend to see around little, warranty policy is way better in own build computer. and with small cash spending you just can upgrade whenever it's necessary.

about W7 and XP .. i could give you a vote of confidence to go for W7, at least for me, i haven't had a single problem with it yet, also bought it at same day it got released. but according to good ol phrase "why buy new if old is working" you might go with XP, sooner or later you will change to W7 anyway ^^

Yep Alienware is overrated, they went downhill after Dell bought them out. Hp fills their system full of propriortary programs that bog down systems, and same with most of the other. The best bang for your buck and with very little effort learn to build your own computer. For just under $2,000.00 I built the system in my sig. in a sniper case and custom fans and wire management with a blu-ray optical drive and fan controller. I build and repair computers, and I will never go back to the days of buying pre-bundles computer systems.

Most of what you pay for when you buy an Alienware, Falcon Nothwest, etc is a name nothing more.

I did say I  did my research a few years ago... I simply found, that if you are going to BUY a PC, (rather it is a prepackage deal, or you go through the customization options) Alienwaear caters their hardware and softwear to the gaming side of the spectrum. And before you mutter about me not knowing anything, I had built a reasonable custom pc on their site, keeping in mind what I would have used it for at the time. And  its because of that, I can say they are one of the best options if you are looking to BUY a gaming pc.

Of course, with any thing like this, you are paying a pretty penny for the name -shrugs-

Building is a whole new ball game. I could build a better PC then I could buy. oO

Yeah, that's the popular culture description of years. It's not correct though.

Like I said, people like number "patterns".

However, in pure "counting" terms, there was no year 0.

Year 1 started the first decade and year 10 ended the first decade. It's carried on since there.

Untrue.
well maybe it's somewhat true.
but I imagine the testing phase for PC only would still be a LONG issue.

But then again maybe I am bias, I do own a console and a PC and Mac however the best OS to test for.

is REd Hat Linux.

Years and years ago, Alienware were the easiest and best solution for getting a pre-built gaming rig, but those days are long gone.

There was a time, where, unless you were a complete computer geek, building your own computer was far from easy.  These days, with all the information you are able to access on the internet and the advancements in computers, building a computer that can play games is as easy as plugging all the hardware together and installing your OS.

Unless you plan on doing some high end modding, which there are guids out there for it, anybody can build their own computer. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable installing water cooling on a new computer I was building, but once I do it on an older computer I don't believe it would be any harder than putting in any other components.

A guy I work with, who wasn't able to google the error code he got trying to install a new dvd drive on his laptop, built his own desktop. If somebody who can't read a microsoft help page telling him to delete a registry entry is able to build their own computer, anybody can do it.
Alienwares are just overpriced computers anymore.

Siren,

itr was stated by Bioware that the delay is in Microsofts certification for the Playstation. I can't make it any more factual lol.

It is out of Biowares hands as from their last word, and in the hands of MS/Sony.

Yep water cooling still scares the heck out of me as well. But like you if I try it it will be on a older rig of mine. :)

I have always been a console user and always will be. I prefer to buy and play games on consols becouse you dont have to install the game to play them and you dont have to upgrade or buy a new console to be able to play the latest games that are being realesed so long as there ar no new console out on the market. I could be wrong about having to upgade your pc almost every time a new game is out for the PC.
( which i always end up being Image IPB )

I like Dragon age Origins for my Xbox 360 and i havent hade any reall problems with it. I also think it looks good but i cant help to feel like the xbox 360 version have gotten the least attention when it comes to graphic then the
PC/PS3 versions but then again graphic is not the only thing that makes a great game Image IPB

As long as you buy or build a computer that is filled with mid-high component's you can play anything for up to 5 years, and if you know how to work on your own systems you can upgrade only the pieces that need upgrading for minor cost most times. The drwback to console systems is that for games like Dragon age origins, Fallout 3, and Oblivion. They all use Toolset's for Modders that are only available on the PC versions of those games, and for like Oblivion and Fallout 3 there is a huge Library of mods and addons for those games, and those mods and addins cannot be installed on console versions of the game. One reason for this is the exact thing you specified when you put you game disc in you x-box 360 you don't install the game you just plug in play.

EDIT: in the end your PC will last and play games longer than a x-box 360. they will always come out with another next gen console in 2-3 years.

Grommash94 wrote... And very few Alienware rigs are actually above 2k..

As somebody who bought one years ago, I can tell you where most of the money goes.
As somebody else said, most of it goes towards the name Alienware, but there were a few other over-priced items that run up the price over 2k.
The biggest is the monitor. The 24" I got with my system was over 1.3k itself.
Getting Dual cards, the newest out at the time, were another 1k, each of them running around $500.
The best RAM at the time also cost a ton. I believe, at the time, the most you could order cost over 1k. I think I spent $500 for the RAM I got at the time.

Yes, it can be argued that getting the best hardware out there at the time of ordering you computer is what you need to do for a good gaming rig, but this is just false.
It is better and cheaper to not get the very best of hardware and just upgrade as the prices come down, when it is necessary to upgrade.

So yes, most of what you are really paying for in an Alienware or any other "gaming rig" company is just the name slapped onto it.

just to clarify,

I have nothing against consoles perse....but the majority of the games released for them are for either:

A. Kids
B. Women
C. Casual gamers.

This is fact and can't be argued with. The majority of serious games that require thought, time, effort and can't be completed in a weekend (unless your super human) come out on the PC.

The old argument of which is better is irrelevent (and my own opinions don't matter), they each have their own market and are very good at catering to said market. Driving sims and fighting games are generally better on the console (though i wonder how many console users have played GTR2 with a wheel and pedals? - blows away anything the console has)...but I digress.

This as a serious RPG should have been PC only (and most people have both a pc and a consle these days so it really didnt need porting).

I replied in a thread earlier about people moaning how bad the xbox version is, well they should be grateful it was even ported to the console (re above argument)...and now due to console power on a strictly pc only game (times gone by, showing my age)...we all have a delay now.

I disagree. The PC gaming community is dwindling, and people are more content to play things on their consoles. The only reason I bought DA and ME for the PC was so I could play it while my fiance hogged the Xbox, we also own 360 versions of the games and DLC as well.

There are tons of hardcore games on consoles, and there always have been. I can count on one hand the number of good PC games that have come out in the last 5 years, but I couldn't begin to count the games for consoles, or the multi-platform ones.

I've never understood this "PC gaming is superior" attitude, or that somehow people who prefer consoles are children, women, or casual. Maybe if we're talking about the Wii, but we're not. We're talking the real consoles, the Xbox 360 and PS3 which are by and large adult platforms, and are fully capable of playing detailed and complex games. I vastly preferred Fallout 3 and Oblivion on the 360 to their PC counterparts, and I know I'm not alone in this.

Wonders how many consoles owners have bought' newer consoles' for the 'newer games' hehe (mainly PS owners I know)

Also, I live in the Uk, and a good Alienware rig will cost you upwards of 4k (British pounds)...I can build the same thing for less than a grand...

Also, look at 'all' the games released for all the markets, and the majority for consoles are the users I described above, checking any game website will confirm this.

And lastly, whats wrong with a pc on a hdtv? lol :)

haha, I'm still trying to get used to the PS3 even though I've been playing it for a month or two. I some times stil find myself thinking that I need to hit the Y or B button...when those buttons are the triangle and square ^_^;; I also find myself hitting X repeatedly in DAO, as if I keep thinking the combat system is like Fable and I'll swing my sword faster if I hit the button more.

Ymm.. british...er... ignore that..>>;;

In some cases you are right about console gamers. However, there are also gamers like myself. I grew up on consoles, its all I have, and frankly, I also was always one gen behind. I got my saga after the N64 came out, I got my PSX after the PS2 came out. The a year after we got the Xbox, the 360 came out. And considering how long computers last in my family....

being a PC gamer was never a option. I would love to get into PC gaming, There is alot one can do on the PC that you can not do on the consoles. But not all of us console users are kids, and 'women' (Really, you made having ****** sound like a bad thing oO) some of us can rock the latest games for 30 out of 34 hours straight and still come back for more! B)
