C. Casual gamers.

This is fact and can't be argued with. The majority of serious games that require thought, time, effort and can't be completed in a weekend (unless your super human) come out on the PC.

The old argument of which is better is irrelevent (and my own opinions don't matter), they each have their own market and are very good at catering to said market. Driving sims and fighting games are generally better on the console (though i wonder how many console users have played GTR2 with a wheel and pedals? - blows away anything the console has)...but I digress.

This as a serious RPG should have been PC only (and most people have both a pc and a consle these days so it really didnt need porting).

I replied in a thread earlier about people moaning how bad the xbox version is, well they should be grateful it was even ported to the console (re above argument)...and now due to console power on a strictly pc only game (times gone by, showing my age)...we all have a delay now.

I disagree. The PC gaming community is dwindling, and people are more content to play things on their consoles. The only reason I bought DA and ME for the PC was so I could play it while my fiance hogged the Xbox, we also own 360 versions of the games and DLC as well.

There are tons of hardcore games on consoles, and there always have been. I can count on one hand the number of good PC games that have come out in the last 5 years, but I couldn't begin to count the games for consoles, or the multi-platform ones.

I've never understood this "PC gaming is superior" attitude, or that somehow people who prefer consoles are children, women, or casual. Maybe if we're talking about the Wii, but we're not. We're talking the real consoles, the Xbox 360 and PS3 which are by and large adult platforms, and are fully capable of playing detailed and complex games. I vastly preferred Fallout 3 and Oblivion on the 360 to their PC counterparts, and I know I'm not alone in this.

PC Gaming community is dwindlin? LOL. BS. People have been saying PC Gaming is dying even before the late 90's. Its now 2010 and PC Gaming is still alive.

Console gaming is the cause of crappy games nowadays. All the games that started from the PC were very good. But look at games nowadays. Crappy, sissified, dumbed down, for console gamers. Even Dragon Age is dumbed down. Almost all multiplatform games are dumb down. Why? To cater the casual gamers, the women, the kids, and the idiot gamers. Why do they cater to these people? Because thats where the money is.

Wonders how many consoles owners have bought' newer consoles' for the 'newer games' hehe (mainly PS owners I know)

Also, I live in the Uk, and a good Alienware rig will cost you upwards of 4k (British pounds)...I can build the same thing for less than a grand...

Also, look at 'all' the games released for all the markets, and the majority for consoles are the users I described above, checking any game website will confirm this.

And lastly, whats wrong with a pc on a hdtv? lol :)

hmm that part dont make much sense Posted Image
i really need to read what i write before i hit submit Posted Image

I am sure there is nothing wrong with a pc on a hdtv beside i never said that there was any wrong with it.

We need to start a Console vs. PC thread we have went off topic for awhile now. lol

After reading some of this. I started on consoles too on the Atari 2600 in fact and on, and I currently own a ps3 on top of 2 custom gaming rigs I built myself. I still love console games and systems. But for these type of games that are Modifiable with toolset's I prefer PC over Console. when I played Oblivion on PC I was running well over 100 mods and addons on the game to the point where my actual game file size was around 45 gb of info.you cant do that on any console and let me tell you the modders out there a lot of times make stuff better than the game companies have made.

But that being said I have like 8 games on ps3 that I love and would compare the quality of graphics to the best of any pc game. Where PC's have the edge is games like this and some other like Batman Arkham Asylum, with the physics graphics running on a high end gaming rig it put's all consoles to shame although the console looked great as well.

For those who like the controller. Most games now are set up to use the x-box 360 controller via usb port.Like someone else said if you want your hd-tv PC+HD-TV= aaaaammmmmazing as well.

If you can have the best of both worlds do it. :)

I never did understand the mentality of those that claim that hardware is the cause of a bad game. One would think its the software and developers that make a horrible or low quality game. XD

Bioware should finally get that people dont want small bits of DLC, we want huge (at least 10 hour long) DLC that expands the story and adds new area's. Same applies for mass effect 2.

Look at how other devs are getting it right (borderlands, fallout, gta dlc)

This will most likely be my last post on the forum, simply because I do not see a point to it anymore.
There are two sides to every story, and a million rumors/theories for every second that passes until a fact is produced. I won't tell anyone to shut up, or to stop complaining, that's not why I come to this forum. And to clarify things I am not saying that anyone has acted wrongly, because quite simply everyone has a right to think what they want to think, feel how they want to feel, and express themselves how they want to (within reason of course, there are always going to be laws and rules of society).

Here are my points:
1. This holiday season being posted on the main site seems to be off the table, one way or another, however you define the holiday season, I think the original intent was Christmas and obviously we have passed that deadline. Whoever said that they should change the availability date to delayed or something similar has the right idea. I do think it poor that the page has not been updated and that we are left to argue with each other and wade through endless pages for little to no information.

2. The people pointing out that it is the customer base causing the delay are at least paying attention. That was the original and most withstanding reason we have been given for this delay. I personally have plenty of games to play, and while it does rub me the wrong way a little bit that I am so invested in a game and have to continue to wait, I can understand it. Whether that was a bs line about the customer's wants/needs being incorporated or not, there's quite a few companies involved in this and these types of things do happen. Someone mentioned that they should have had this all worked out ahead of time, seeing as they knew this was the direction they were going to take, and I am inclined to agree, but then again I have never worked for a software company of any kind, so I don't know the processes involved.

3. There was a post about the date being moved to Jan 12, a moderator suggested they were probably making this up. Again, I am inclined to agree, but I would like to clarify that most websites out there, especially the sales based ones (example Game Stop) tend to calculate or guesstimate the due date in order to produce hype. Saying "hey, there's this really awesome product out there, but we have no idea when it will be released" does not tend to turn a lot of heads.

4. Regardless of the content posted here, I think it's safe to say that Bioware is listening, even if it's just a little bit. I don't know any person that has enough time to scroll through hundreds and hundreds of threads and pages of replies (or a company that would assign a team to do so for payment) so I wouldn't be surprised if they only had a very small snap shot of their customer base and the opinions expressed.

Just a little clarification and perhaps some perspective for those of you feeling lost and/or abandoned. At least we are all joined in the love of the game, and I don't mean that in a cheesey way. It's very rare for a game to come along where I am willing to replay it until the disk burns out. This game is wonderful, and while it has it's glitches, and it's delays for more content, I'm still very happy to have this game. I'm an old WoW veteran, and this game is WoW on my PS3 without all the online bs (namely PvP ganking).

I'm sure I'll be smacked around in here for my peace loving approach to this topic, but I just want to say to anyone that quotes me, thanks , for anyone that flogs me, rock on, I'm glad you have a place to vent.

Signing off,
Rasaziz

There are so many words to describe what kind of person you are, I'll go with close-minded. Games across all platforms have been dumbed down to appeal to a wider market, it's a sound marketing strategy. Sure, there are those of us who relish the good old days where it took you 6 solid hours to get through one dungeon because it was hard, or poorly designed. Most of the time, poorly designed.

Gaming didn't start on the PC, and the notion that because you prefer the PC that makes all console gamers idiots/children/casuals/women is incredibly stupid. Really, really stupid.

And wtf to the "women" comment. So because someone has different genitalia than you, they are somehow less of a gamer? Less human? That smacks of misogyny.

i was hoping to see the DLC released today, but no, i guess i should just trade the game in and just wait for Mass Effect 2, or will that be a disappointing game now since it seems Bioware is dropping the ball since they got bought out by EA?

That's what i have been thinking too, trade off DAO, and use the money to get ME2.

Going to return the game because the DLC that will give u an extra 20 minutes of play time and some old gear that is re-coloured gold isnt ready today? lol I hear video game outlets are going to start selling pacifiers in multipe flavours

Its one DLC that people are freaking out about? They said it would be released holiday season and it isnt yet?

so what?

Is Dragon Age the only game you have? is it the only thing in your life that you have to do today? or any day for that matter?

If the release of RtO is the one thing keeping u from returning the game then you might as well return it now, because the game obviously isnt worth it to you.

I do agree with Bioware dropping the ball in terms of support/keeping the community up to date. They could end all this ****ing with a single sentance of where they currently stand with RtO, Holiday or not.

RtO will be ready when its ready, no amount of ****ing or threatning to return the game will change that.

Heh, if you remember how long they give support, updates, new modules and all new stuff in NWN1 you might think again.

There is NO WAY that Bioware will abandon a game after 2 month from it's release. I can understand your comment, because it show this is your first game you bought from Bioware. But this is not EA or Atari. They actually answer (I have not yet get any answer from EA helpdesk and I bet they will NOT answer even if I wait for year) and try to help.

I am not saying that they do not do this for money also. But best job is if you get pay from something what you love to do and our doctors are smart enough to realize that they do not p** in they serials.

After watching this firm over 10 year I can guarantee that they WILL take care from DA:O bit longer then 2 month. Now if you want to argue feel free to give some examples (Like BG, NWN1) and show HOW they have not kept supporting they games more then 2 month since release.

This *is* EA now. EAbioware. Unfortunately, the track record for EAbioware is a little different.

Okay. Go to the ME forums. Take a look at the tech support self help forum. How many patches were released? How long did they take to come out? There has been a pinned sticky that said they are looking for help in pinning down and patching the GPF issue since Wednesday, 11 February 2009 09:54PM. Judging by the latest posts in that thread, it isn't out yet... I haven't paid much attention to the news, truthfully. Having past experience with EA support, I couldn't bring myself to buy that game.

I am hoping that DAO shows an improvement on the support side. Besides the dlc, that is. Cause EA sure did keep that bridging dlc coming for ME, right?

Awesome, it takes a year to release a DLC release! Brilliant, I can't wait. I will obsessively count down each day on the calendar in obsurd anticipation.

I have to admit to being most frustrated. They have all but said that the PC version is done and we are holding for Sony and the PS3. The disappointment is they are penalizing one platform for the crap the other platform has to put up with.

If the PC version is done release it and let us enjoy the content you told us we would have. If this is going to be the typical release of DLC then I think Bioware needs to rethink the concept. This will kill the demand really quick. For all this wait it better be something very special.
