I hope this DLC has a mandatory patch in it to fix the ostagar inf lvl glitch ( as well as any other inf lvl glitches.

Well Having worked in the industry, I can honestly say something like this is NOT as designed ( meaning probably overlooked and needs correcting)  an exploit is fine, they happen and no big deal.  But this is a major game breaking issue that should be rectified.  It isn't a matter of ": if you don't like it don't use it" it is a matter of pointing it out to the devs, having them fix it, so that they know where it went wrong so the same thing doesn't happen in thier future games.  If they dont go back and fix this issue, then they arent doing thier jobs as programmers, by going back into the code and seeing what happened.  It isn't an attack on anyone that likes the issue, just that is my stand as someone who wants to see games improve in the future.  ( this is a very easilly overlooked bug BTW, some testers wouldnt continue asking past the first time)  If Bioware decides to let it stand as an optional patch, that is fine ( not sure if there is a patch out already, if there is, they have done thier job by going back and i will let the issue lie)

And You also know that the DLC teams are NOT the same as the patches team... So uhm NO, no patches comes out with the DLC's as they have explained over and over on these forums...
Totally different teams doing totally different work...
That's why the 1.02 patch was not part of a DLC either...
Can people maybe get this information to STICK in their minds now?

Patching and DLC's are made by different teams!!!!!!!!

There, now it's been said a million and one times! :police:

I'd bet there is a patch.  They'll probably add the quest giver to the main campaign so they can advertise their DLC to the people who don't want it.  The Warden's Keep quest giver shows up in the main campaign even if you don't have Warden's Keep, so I suspect they'll do the same thing here.

Whether or not anything else is in the patch is unknown to me.

And should that happen the game is flying straight into the proverbial trashcan, along with my Mass Effect 2 pre-order. I do however remember reading a BioWare person saying that it won't happen.

Wow, so now you're comparing 1hour of pixels to something that actually keeps you going? You're like those people who say "You pay 4bucks for a burger".

Are you kidding me?  Paying $5 for an hour or two of entertainment with dlc is barely any different then going out to see a movie.  You're not receiving anything tangible and the worth of the purchase is entirely subjective.

Key word being subjective.

Just because you don't think something has worth when compared to something else doesn't necessarily make it fact.

On my last playthrough, I had Wynne and Alistair in my party majority of the time. There were two dialogues between them regarding Wynne's "son".

Is there going to be an opportunity to reunite Wynne and her son?

I am sure I am being hopeful, at best, but it would certainly thicken some story points.

No one cares about Wynne. She's just a heal bot. I could see them doing extra content with any other character before they wasted time on Wynne. The Dog is included in this as he was even added to Return to Ostagar.

Yep I agree I could care less about Wynne she is too preachy and tries dominating every conversation you have with her. I've asked myself through some of my play throughs who is the Leader of this group me the Grey Wraden or this washed up old mage who is possessed by a nice fade spirit but still cant tell a fade deception from the reality. Sten can even tell the difference and he is not a mage nor is he possessed by a fade spirit. Lol they really dropped the ball when writing her story she is a big fish in a little pond. To all the Wynne lovers out there sorry but you can't escape the logic of how stupidly she was written.

It takes far more effort to make "1hour of pixels" than it does to make a single burger. Also, you can't repeatedly eat the same burger.

Yes, but unlike each physical burger, once you've created a digital product, you can just theorically sell about infinite copies of it Image IPB

Now about the DLC entertainment value / price, I guess you can see it from 2 (over simplified)perspectives :

From the player:  Compare the Full Game Entertainment Value / Price to DLC Entertainment Value / Price.
In this view, It's easy to find DLC content to be overpriced

From the publisher: it depends on the sales figures of the Full Game compared to the DLC.
If the DLC sales are a lower than the full game, that directly means the whole DLC development cost is relatively higher compare to the benefits. So they have to sell each DLC overpriced compared the to entertainment value of the full game. Image IPB
If the DLC sales are about as high as the full game, then they are overmilking money from the buyers. Image IPB

"Overpriced" is not the same as simply being "more expensive than." Overpriced is determined by the willingness of the entire body of consumers to spend their money, not a handful of forumgoers. And, since Bioware is still churning out DLC at an impressive pace, I'm guessing the votes are in.

Most people would spend 8-12 dollars on a cup of coffee that lasts them 10 minutes...and they complain about a DLC...wow....as for the movies...lol people don't think about that either. It will never stop the petty fighting though.

No they don't. I pay 2.50 for coffee, and 5bucks at most @ starbucks.

leftEdge wrote...

I LOVE the DLC model. Personally, I'd
happily pay £5 a month for episodic DA content. I've not got much else
to say on the matter, just wanted to make my mark so BW/EA see that not
everyone is in some kind of thrifty time warp where £5 is a significant
amount of money, and nobody understands the costs associated with
making quality software. Testing cost alone over three platforms (not
to mention PC with it's enormous range of hardware configurations) will
be pretty high, not to mention dev cost, infrastructure overheads,
admin costs, VA, etc.

This isn't called episodic content. This is called rip-off. Episodic content = GTA IV Dlc.

And I spend about 2 bucks for 4 people in the house that drink coffee...and I put my own things on it (Whipped Cream, drizzle carmel, etc)...that is about 8 bucks at a Starbucks...last time I checked at the mall. Still, you spend 2.50 for a cup of coffee or go to McDonalds or some fast food resturant and buy something there and you complain about a 5 dollar DLC...I don't  get it.

Wow, so now you're comparing 1hour of pixels to something that actually keeps you going? You're like those people who say "You pay 4bucks for a burger".

Yeah a burger that lasts you an hour and you only get one of and a DLC that you can play as many times as you like on a different character for 5 bucks...hmm...something I eat once, something that has replay....So, you rather pay 4 bucks for your burger that lasts you an hour and you can only have once for that 4 dollars than something that you can replay that only costs 5 bucks. What is the sense in that?? Oh right "pixels"....that's smart, the only justification for the hypocrisy...

I find "Overpriced "is a fine word in the specific player view example in which  I used it.

I'm not telling the DLC prices are generally too high or too low. At best I could only say my personal opinion about it, but each potential buyer decides if the price is too high or not depending on many factors such as his own wealth, interests, game addiction and so on:P

What I'm just saying, is that I find understandable ( justified or not, remember it's just one  of the ways a buyer may evualuate a DLC) many posts in this topic who find the DLC to be  relatively costly for the few content they provide ( in comparaison to the the original game entertainment value/price) .

It's for the same reason, you also see people who says they would rather pay more at once for a full expansion (like it was done for NWN or NWN2) because entertainment value/price would be about the same as the original game.

On a pure commercial aspect, I assume EA/Bioware has done its studies to determinate the DLC price and maximize its ROI. (From this last view "overpriced" does not apply)

Happy New Year, everyone! Thanks for your patience over the holiday season and I'm sorry we weren't able to get Return to Ostagar out to you on the timelines we had originally hoped. As noted in the press release and on the Return to Ostagar product page, the PC and X360 versions of this new DLC will launch tomorrow, with PS3 to follow at a later date (we'll announce it once we've confirmed the details).

I take responsibility for any missteps that we've made in communicating the specifics of this launch and it's on my list of New Year's resolutions to do better in 2010. =o) In particular, I'll narrow my focus to discussing the content itself, rather than release dates and price points, which are outside of my control and far too subject to change without my direct involvement. For those sorts of details, you'll just have to wait for the press releases.

At any rate, thanks so much for continuing to play Dragon Age and for being a part of the BioWare community. For those of you playing Return to Ostagar tomorrow, have fun! I look forward to hearing your responses. In the meantime, the team and I will be buckling down and developing more content for all of you to play. We're having fun and are in this one for the long haul. =o)

All the best in 2010!

What time is it going on sale? I have tomorrow off(coincidentally, I swear!), and would love to get it as soon as possible. Even a rough idea would be nice.

If it's that important, why not just wait until others have played it and ask them. You will likely have to decide whether it is more important to know there is an achievement, or, whether it is more important to have it now, but risk there not being an achievement.

Good luck with your decision :)

Yes, it was also one of the reason why it was held back from the Christmas release.

Looking forward to playing this tomorrow. I'm definitely interested mostly in how the side-plot affects certain characters - Alistair being an obvious one. This game shines in its voice-acting, so seeing you guys able to keep the voice actors on standby or whatever is a great thing. I hope you're working with them on a bigger piece of content to come later.
$5 seems reasonable to me, if not a good deal by today's standards (if you want to see a company that ****s-out its DLC, look at Capcom). A BioWare rep already made a nice post showing a lot of "hidden" company overhead that consumers forget about, and I wish people still complaining about the price would (re)read it. I'd like more content for this game that includes all the original voice actors of the game, if possible, so $5 is worth it for that alone. I just hope you guys are taking the foresight to get voice work done ahead of time for a more "major" addition to DAO.

Don't worry, we or at least I'll be busy with Dragon Age for some time. It's not every month we can enjoy a good game  (although Mass Effect 2 gonna get me away from DAO for a while but shhhhh..) Image IPB

Sadly those of with PS3's will be in the dark for an unknown amount of time. I like the system and love the game, but hate the PS3 hold up with all my being. I know it's not Bio's fault, but it still angers me. As much as I hate to say it... I'm going to have to put DAO aside for a few weeks. Knowing me, I'll buy a new game and not pick DAO up again for months or maybe never again. Only the maker knows when or if I'll get to play RtO....

If any Mod's or Bio people get the chance do us PS3 players a favor and kick some Sony A**.

Yeah, I hear you, valkiroc. To be fair to Sony, however, it's not entirely their fault - we faced some PS3 technical hurdles on our end as well. But of the three platforms, they do have the longest approval process, the most expensive (and therefore rarest) devkits & testkits, etc. As a result, the PS3 launch dates often do fall out of synch with the other platforms.

well is there an estimated date of when the ps3 version might release?
