Will the 'survivor' be a new party member? Or just a questgiver. I figure the latter since it probably would have been announced more explicitly otherwise, but it's one of the strongest aspects of the game. And I love Shale.

Well would you rather spend $5 on some expensive coffee you can down in a few minutes or a DLC which you can essentially replay over and over?
I would indeed spend my ~3€ on something different than a DLC that could be played once, maybe twice, before I've explored and done everything there is to do. I would do so just for the principle.

Well if we don't get his armor i really hope they put his beard in as the survivor, so we can recruit the beard as a companion. Females can romance the beard, and males can put it on once they get 100% approval. Definitely worth the $5

one of the devs said that the survivor will not be a new companion. so most likely just a quest giver that you find in the new "bann loren's" territory. he tells you some stuff, then you go back to ostagar and kick some darkspawn tookus, and get some snazzy looking gear.

If anything i'd hope they find the remains of Duncan or sumth'n just to give Alister the peace of mind he needs and/or if they conntinue the game after the blight THEN bring Duncan back since at that point we'd be equals rather then grunt & stoic leader
On that note i think my team for this DLC will be: My charecter(obviously lol), Alister, Wynne & someone who wouldn't laugh at poor Alister's inevitible crying i suppose lol (so cross morigan, sten, shale, oghren) Lelianya by default then

I'm waiting for a review... If the DLC is half assed and not the least challenging I'm not wasting my money. I played well into 100 hours and If it's just a repeat, I can live without it.
That said I agree with someone who posted the thing about looking into item balance. Some items are crap pure crap. You waste over a hour on a hard quest only to be rewarded with 1g and some 10% resistance item. Then you have the DLC were you get extremly useful items that you never have to replace.
Take Bergen's honor? Why would you want to replace it on your tank ever? or the staff from wardens? The only flaw this game has to be honest is in the economy and item department. I feel like the ydidn't put the time in to actually make you be able to buy things. Took me forever to get the belt from tower of magi. And If you would have bought recipies etc you would never generate the income to get the,
If they made a economy DLC that rebalanced and reworked some quests I buy it in a instance. The game is way to fun to be broken by stupid small things.
I agree. Or they could make some good drops instead.
Indeed, it sucks that many of the best items are the ones you start the game with (the blood dragon armor for instance, and the worst is that it looks horrible), or the ones found in DLC areas. These loot heavy DLC should at least make some other parts of the game harder in order to keep things interesting, instead of feeling like paid cheat codes.
Concerning the DLC itself, I don't pay 5$ for coffee, and know no one who does, so I guess I still have one question:
Are more ambitious DLC or expansion planned (some new quests and story arc, not just a few areas of dungeon crawl)? Like the GTA4 ones?

I can see both sides of the coin, from the devs perspective it takes time to develop, code, craft, record voice over, etc. And the need to recoup investment makes sense.
But from a gamers perspective this really isn't worth my time or money I'd say. I mean if you figure Warden's Keep and this DLC equals about $13 bucks, possibly add in the value of the stone prisoner at $15 bucks and you have the cost of a full fledged expansion. As it stands the current DLC combined adds a whopping 3 hours of gameplay at the cost of 28 bucks. That is the cost of a full 20 hour expansion.
Mask of the Betrayer added about 30 hours for me and cost me that much. Along with great music, a totally imersive storyline and new characters. We can sit and compare the $5 cost to hamburgers, skittles, a movie ticket, a music cd - anything really, it's not really the price of the DLC, but the perceived value. For me it's not worth 30 bucks for 3 hours of gameplay.
I do love the universe and the gamer part of me says pump these things out, but the practial side says either put out a meatier 3 to 5 hour DLC for 5 to 7 bucks or just wait 6 months for a full fledged expansion.
As it stands now I just feel nickel and dimed.

Personally, I'd like to add that I bought Warden's Keep, and literally took me an hour. It did add some nice elements and backstory, but if I had to do it again, I wouldn't purchase it.

ok, i dont know, how many people work there and how long, but I thing, for 1 or 2 $ many people would buy it and bioware will also reach 500k $.
so make 2 DLCs and try out, which one bring more money, if one is expensive and the other is not.
Wardens Keep was expensive and i won´t purchase it again, if i had the choice. and i won´t buy the next DLC with one hour gameplay for 5 $ oder maybe 5€, while i´m from germany and its even more expensive here^^
and our coffee here cost only about 1 or 2 $

Also i'm tired of 5$ coffee comparision , If you pay 5$ for a cup of coffee you are a moron, A fiscal moron at that no matter what your income level. Same applies to buying. waiting, ancipating and downloading a 15 min run though if you know what your doing ... It's the same deal think about it. Why are there 5$ coffee cups out there because there is enough morons to buy into.
Same will be with DLC you let bioware get away with low content to value DLC you will always get low content to value.
Also maybe peple who disagree in any way with a bioware should start whiners club, Even those of you with bug problems you can fit into the catagory to because if you disagree with something bioware is doing you are a whiner Sir. According to DOA is god ppl crowd we should just kiss the ground that it is availble..No Sir I hold ppl accountable regauldess if they make something i like it does not mean they get a free pass on other actions..
Yes i loved the game and it is a Great value for the money, one the best RPG to date imho, but i don't then just turn my brain off and take anything bioware throws at me.
Anyways this is becoming like beating a dead horse but our choices do matter and will effect the content and outcome of DLC. That a simple fact that cannot be ignored, as long as it is profitable for then which it should be there will be DLC. And to the other side I'm not Anit DLC i bought WK and was dissapionted for $7.48 inc it sucked ..Do a opnion poll on value ..I just hoped that RTO DLC would be the true judging stone DLC content in the future and if 30min is it well DLC for this gamer is pointless.
I'll wait for Mass Effect 2 or The Witcher 2 which is a trully adult RPG. Notation, so adult that even with 17+ rating they had to cut out text and nudity for North American Version of the Witcher 1 but there is the Directiors cut that can be download and applied and restore it to full version on there website. Sorry not a plug for the witcher but RPG in gerneral,, its amazing how ppl say DOA is so graphic, The Witcher Enhanced Edition is twice as adult. with Directors patch applied as the game was inteded and it can be bought for 19.99 ..so anyone who is bored and waiting on Mass effect 2 like i am Try that game and apply the patches it definatly was worthy of it's 2007 RPG of the year award./
I guess you stress a valid point regarding the coffee analogy, its like comparing apples to oranges, bodybuilders to powerlifters...
Honestly is this DLC going to be incredibly short like wardens keep? I wouldn't mind waiting a little longer for some quality DLC(BDTS in ME was pretty good IMO) which would be significantly longer than both DLC;s for DAO and have a little more depth to it.
Not that its importanant but regarding the 5 buck coffee, well it is that expensive in the country i live in and there are alot of people who pay for that kind of drink(its not worth it so i dont bother buying).

I am dissapointed that it is only one hour, but one more hour of DAO for five dollars is worth it, in my opinion. It may not be in yours, that does not mean either of our opinions are invalid or that Bioware is doing something wrong.
