Will there be future content available for less than $5? Yes and there will be future content available for more than $5 as well.

The specific release dates are still in flux and are dependent on final testing and certification. Current projections are for sometime in December.

As for the success of the Neverwinter Nights premium module program, it's something I'm very proud of. It proved that it could be done and gave us a lot of experience in doing this kind of thing. Was it a financial success? Well, if you juggle the math just right and squint your eyes a bit, you can make the argument that it hit the break-even point. =o) To be clear, however, that program's lack of profitability had very little to do with the size or scope of the content. The key determining factor was that we only launched it once the game was already three years old. By having PRC available at time of Dragon Age: Origin's launch and by following up in a timely fashion with a wide variety of content at different price points, we hope to be a lot more successful this time around. We're not profitable yet as we have a large infrastructure investment to recoup first (trust me, building a suitable framework for PRC doesn't come cheap), but I think we're on track.

Well, thanks for reading and for being so patient with me, everyone. This thread's getting a little long in the tooth and newcomers are no longer reading it from the start, so I think this will be my final post here. Tomorrow, I'll be back at work on some other upcoming content but I'll see if I can poke in on the forums every now and then to help out.

Regardless, thanks for playing Dragon Age and I look forward to seeing your impressions of Return to Ostagar when it's finally released. Please feel free to copy and paste my answers into other threads as similar questions come up between now and the module's release.

For Ferelden,
Rob

I think a previous poster brings up a good point. If we all want DLC cheaper and longer, we're going to have to make a sacrifice, and the easiest one is probably in voice acting.

DO NOT WANT to sacrifice voice acting.  Not by a long shot.  Heck, I'd even pay for just additional voice acting/dialogue choices to be put into the OC.

+1

Please. Rather a higher cost than leaving out voice acting. To me this is almost half of what makes DAO so compelling - It's what gives the characters real life. I doubt the game would have had the same epic feel without voice acting, and I would hate to see it skipped because some cheapskates think $5 is too much for 1h extra gameplay.

I know 1 hour isn't much and like many others I would also rather see longer between each release but instead 4-6 hours campaigns/modules. Since the game is still so new I perfectly understand there haven't been time for such, and I welcome all the bits and pieces you have been able to release so far in the short time.

The title of the topic is 'QUESTIONS about Return to Ostagar?' Why people feel the need to discuss every little thing is so much beyond me. One of you debaters should just make another topic and title it 'Debate about DLC' and leave this one alone; it's turned into a mess. I started skipping to the developer posts about a quarter of the way in.

That said here, is my QUESTION...

It seems like the whole point of Return to Ostagar is that it holds some significance for the other party members who were present for the battle, does this mean that the DLC will only target Alistair and Wynne? (The dog notwithstanding...)

hmm lets see, I have 6 characters, 8 actually but they arent completed ( still working on the codex etc. and side-quests). DAO: per character is 30 hours for me. Stone prisoner + wardens keep 2 hours together maybe? 32 X 6 = 192 hours and i will be getting another hour. witch is another 6 hours of gameplay. In total i will be getting 198 hours of gameplay on six characters with return to ostagar.

Lets face it, I dont mind the 5 bucks i need to pay for the dlc. In the end its your choice you could buy it or not. But everyone knows you can't resist shiny golden armor :)

Morrigan and Flemeth were there as well, although they kept out of the battle. Would be pretty cool to see a movie of 'the rescue' as oppossed to the quick cut to the genlock archers mowing down your party.

So maybe more dialogue options with Flemeth, which would rock. Perhaps even the chance to give Duncan that funeral that Alistar wanted for him.

90 minute movie -- $12

60 minute DLC -- $5 Not to mention you can replay it, etc.

I'm having trouble seeing how it is a rip-off.

One can not replay it with the same Character. You can only replay it as a different character each time. In the DLC, however, you can go back to the areas and do things you might have missed , but can not go back to, say, the circle tower in the original campaign. Or even take the orignial character and go back to replay all the original content. I supose those are my gripes, but other than that it has been worth playing. Posted Image

LOL! People complaining about $5. LOL I especially liked the post that is was :unimous that wardens keep wasn't long enough. I don't seem to remember getting my ballot. Folks, if you can't afford $5, maybe is time to move on? Get a job?

If bioware was to make a DLC and let everyone download it for free, people would still complain. Go back to WOW whiners.

instead of making Dragon Age 2 why not complement it with DLC's and extend the main story like a movie trilogy?

Question for Ostagar is there new enemy types?

That sounds good, except for when the DLC is falsely advertised, over priced, adds very little the game in terms of content, and/or simply repeats of areas you've already been to.

Return to Ostegar: Go back to that city you've already been to, get the dog you already got, fight some enemies you've already beaten, and get a shiny set of armor that pretty much proves you killed the king... Who do I write the check to?

I admit I don't know what's going to be in this DLC, but from what they've release so far it doesn't sound promising.

Keep cranking out the content Bioware, it's just another reason for me to keep on replaying!

Looting shiny armor off your dead comrades in Ostagar isn't my idea of roleplaying :P

You can cry a little....then loot them.

Hey Rob, thanks for the news.

Sounds like a good bit of content to me, and great that its so soon.

I do hope you guys will do some larger scale (akin to old style expansion packs) in the future though.

Thanks

I think part of the reason the bang per buck value seems low is that DA is so huge (if not BG2 huge)that a mere extra hour of content just doesn't feel like it compares to the value you get from the game itself.

Even with that though, an hour of content, albeit replayable, just doesn't feel that exciting. When I did Warden's Keep, which was a fair chunk of the cost of the deluxe edition vs normal, I was left with an 'oh... was that it' feeling even though I'd enjoyed it.

I guess what I'm looking for is something more expansion-esque, or at least a standalone settlement away from the main quest - something along the lines of Tradesmeet or Umar Hills in BG2. For which I'd be willing to pay more of course. Or to compare to another game, something along the lines of Broken Steel in FO3.

You know what? I have played WoW for a little over 4 years and i have to say, $5 for some DLC even if it was just for a couple peices of phat lewts is well worth it just fo the fact that bioware actually responds to our comments. Blizz fails whens the MMO version of this coming out? =)

It figuers wow fan, hehehe yeah i bet you would pay 5$ for a couple new loots, just like alot of the mmo community will pay for gold, leveling, and aa's heheh your the perfect bizzard/eq user. GL

Wow fan no longer.  actually the game bores me to death now i tried to sit down and play it the other day and quit after only 20 minutes in an instance...  dropped group hearthed and logged...  so boared with it in fact that in the past 4 months that i paid for it in advance and have wasted about 2 months of it...  Sad huh?  But lets put it this way between CoD World at war and MW2, and now DA:O  the meth got me off the heroin so to speak

Guys - it's not about if someone can "lol afford" $5 bucks. It's about the perceived value of the content, and taking a step back and looking at the whole picture.

Like I said, if you add up the hours vs the price of all the content that has been offered, youre pushing past the 30 dollar mark for a full 3 hours of content. I mean compare that to any game vs price and that is just waaay off the mark. Wardens Keep i finished in one setting, totalling an hour. It was a nice quest, but from a gaming perspective if I'm going to sit down with a piece of content and get into storylines. gameplay etc, I would like more that a few cut scenes and 2 pieces of loot for a full 7 bucks.

Not only that, but if look at the whole picture, each piece of one hour content costing 5 bucks plus, you start pushing the $100 dollar mark for a game. I mean all this is a big debateable issue. But add that 30 bucks to the 50 bucks you spent and you can see where I'm going. If there's 2 years of content planned at 5 bucks a pop, I mean are we looking to spend 500 bucks on Dragon Age?

Personally, no. After Wardens Keep, all DA content isn't an "instant buy" for me. It's like I said I'd rather much more meatier content, especially while I'm still in-game doing stuff and haven't beat it. I can say with confidence that after I beat it, I'm almost 90% less inclided to blow 5 bucks on an hour of gameplay.

I can say for certain that I would purchase an expansion pack, along the lines of Mask of The Betrayer. But I'd much rather a 5-7-10 hour storyline/content than these little throwaways in the meantime.

The content they're trying to sell is probably from an unfinished product that they were over budget and behind schedule on. They're already saving money by porting to three different platforms. What they need is to outsource their coding and stop overpaying their prima donna code monkeys. I'm sure they can drop prices 75%. Oh wait, scrap that, that will be part of CEO and upper exec yearly bonus for cutting costs.

Make a proper $20 (talking PC here) expansion pack and sell the DVD-ROM 6 months after initial launch. Let the kids enjoy the perceived replay-value.

Quite a shame, really. All this thread space could've been used for proper discussion.

Anyways, I am looking forward to this piece of DLC. I hope you can get some nice armor there.
