Tielis I agree. $5 or $7 isn't the issue. It's just change these days.

People are upset over "an hour to play through" because they would like more. Also, I'm not going to go to the epilogue save and just do one area for loot I'll never use again until the next DLC comes out. It's all meh.

Its kind of like an underhanded compliment.  People, myself included, are foaming at the mouth for more content.  Lets break it down though...If it has original recorded lines of voiceover, original art and original content then they had to pay thier employees/voice actors in order to create this.  Don't forget thier playtesters, web designers who added it to the Add-On page ect.  I find it hard to believe that all of these people get paid minimum wage, not to mention the company also wants to make an overhead profit.  So its not exactly cheap to create this stuff.
@ OP Rob :  Thanks for the quick Q&A thread, and the honesty.  Sounds awesome.  And the price drop to 5$ suits me just fine.  7$ for Wardens Keep is right there on the line of acceptable to me, but 5$ for something with roughly the same play time would definatly be worth it. And so soon after release!  I was having nightmares about a 6 month+ wait time for some new content.  I'll sleep sound tonight Image IPB

Will it contain any new areas we didn't see yet in ostagar? Can we return to the Kocari Wilds to finish missed side quests there? :)

For those doing the whole Money spent/Time enjoyed = amount of entertainment recieved. Is that how you decide on what movies are good? One that is 3 hours long is inherently better then 2 hour movie?

Actually people make this decision making all the time for movies. If the movie isn't worth the $12 or whatever, it's a "rental." If it's worth it then it's watched in theaters.

I paid $5 for lunch at McDonald's and that only lasted fifteen minutes. The price is *fine.*

But that food stays in your system for an entire eight hours while offering life sustaining nutrients! Image IPB

I wouldn't call anything from McDonalds as having "life sustaining nutrients."

Will it give another chance to harden Alistair? I am sure going back there would be hard for him especially seeing Duncan and King Calain's death site.

I'm gonna get it despite the price point. An hour of Bioware is usually better than 10 hours of most other games.

what you guys really want ? free dlc ? 50h gameplay for 2$ ? Free pancakes on the morning ? I also want the free pancakes to be honest. 5$ for 1h sounds good for me.

How much are you paid for 1hour of your work ? I don't know about you, but in my country we can't pay less than 9-10$ the hour of work (8,82 €). 5$ is half the price of someone's work where i live.

I am wondering how much of what we see will be new. Will it mostly be places we have visited before but under a cover of snow (And ruined), or a lot of 'new' places too? Will we get to enter the tower again? Will it have a significant choice somewhere along the line with various consequences?

At any rate. Spreading the word.

No, the DLC is not worth less: The full game is worth more. There are many full-retail games out there that only have 5-10 hours of story/gameplay. That DA:O is quite expansive should not spoil you on the experience of new content. Price is not the issue. The issue is how much will you enjoy it. If you won't enjoy it or can't afford it, don't get it. If you will enjoy it and can afford it, get it. Personally, I imagine I'll play through DA:O over a dozen times over the coming years. That means this piece of DLC will give me over a dozen hours of enjoyment. If you aren't planning on playing the game again, it's probably not worth it for you, but there's no sense arguing about it. People have been arguing about this subject since DLC was first marketed for the first game that had it, but everyone just brings up the same points time after time; never getting anywhere.

First comparing with coffee etc.. is not feasable, we should compare with similiar offerings. fallout dlcs etc.. i agree that 5 or 7 is not important but a dlc should be more enhanced, it can be more expensive but quality should also match.

If it's 1 hour of gaming, that turns into 3 hours for me as I plan to play it as a fighter, mage & thief.

But they rarely make that decision based on the length of the movie, which was his point.

Those two things are exactly the same... that's just semantics... saying the cup is half empty or half full doesn't change the status of the cup being filled half-way. The full game is worth more, therefore the DLC isn't worth as much.

Capes, horses, and barbarians are six feet under.

They would need to call in a necromancer.

Interesting point is that the other side of the issue is that sometimes a movie can be too long.  Alot of folks would contest that shouldn't be the case with a CRPG, but there's a difference to some audiences between meaningful content and meaningless content.

Consider 2012, a movie which was far too long for it's own good.

Well, Warden's Keep took me an hour and a couple of minutes. It costs $7. If Return to Ostagar has a playtime of an hour and costs $5, that's an improvement.

On the other hand, Warden's Keep was advertised as 2-4 hours ...

I propose that Oblivion's horse armor should from now on be used as a standard with which to measure other DLCs.

And how many truly interesting 3-hour movies are there? Not many, which is why few directors would make their movie that long, they usually edit down to 2.5 hours or less. The longer you make the movie, the harder it is to keep people entertained for the duration--same exact principle.

20-minute DLC costing $5 has less than 1/10 the value of the full game.
