So if EA is so evil they wouldn't have refunded you.
I was a bit sad to learn that the big feature is the new set of warrior armor. Alistair looks tricked out and I am resigned to non bling leathers. Aw well. I still wish they'd hurry up and let me give them my money for more game.
A new set of warrior armour that's already in the game anyway... available to modders at least.
It's Mehrunes' Razor all over again!

BioWare never pulled this kind of nonsense before (hell, Mass Effect's Bring Down the Sky on the PC was free).

Putting out a product for money is not corrupt, no matter how you feel about it. To call it corrupt is pretty darn extreme.

Putting out a product for money is not corrupt, but in some instances it seems game developers put out an unfinished product and charge u for the rest of it. $60 bucks is a lot to pay for a game, tack on 10 dollars here, 5 dollars here, 7 dollars here, and before u no it u have paid $80+ and for what? I have nothing against this expansion, but when a racing game (burnout paradise) wants to charge u 10 bucks so u can play multiplayer offline, when every racing game sense nintendo has come equipped with this feature at no extra cost? Things like that seem to be "corrupt". And i use that example because burnout is an EA game aswell.
Im a little up in the air about the dlc for DAO atm... 1 extra suit of armor and a few new scenes hardly seems worth it, although if u think about it, scenes may have some variations on playthroughs. A lot of subteties make this game a very in depth experience. After 4 playthroughs im still shocked to discover new things and make connections i was previously oblivious to. However, does that justify me paying 12 extra bucks on top of the original 60?

It's entirely EA's influence, I suspect.
Except BioWare said it is not.

at the rate they are going, by the time they add enough DLC to equal the amount of content that normally comes with a typical expansion, you are going to be paying WELL past the price point of said expansion.
now obviously they make games to make money, so i dont think this is "Evil bioware", i just think its a dramatically more efficient way for them to make money than the old model of just doing expansions. more efficient for the company = less value for the dollar for their consumers.
obviously some people may consider 5 bucks for an extra hour of a good game worth it, but tahts up to each individual~

Agree. I always wonder how much would Bioware(EA) charge for a lengthly content...taliefer wrote...

Exactly. That's how the nickel-and-dime strategy works. They are already past the price point of a typical expansion. It would cost you $27 to purchase the 3 DLC packs that have been released or announced already. $27... is there anybody who would pay that much for a bundle containing The Stone Prisoner, Warden's Keep, and Return to Ostagar? When you add it up it's very obvious that the pricing of the DLC isn't reasonable. The DLC model, which works fairly well apparently, takes advantage of fans who fall into the practice of thinking "$5? I pay more for a sandwich!" and don't consider the big picture.taliefer wrote...

In other words, the producers get more money while the fans get less content. Yes, of course we have the option to not buy it, but the fact remains that WE, the fans, are being ripped off through a deceptive business practice that does NOT benefit us.
There seems to be two distinct groups of people with regards to the way Bioware has been doing DLC with Dragon Age: those who hate it and those who don't mind it. There doesn't seem to be a lot of people who are thrilled by the prices, content, delivery mechanism, in game advertising, etc. In other words, this community has pretty much reached a consensus that the DLC aspect of Dragon Age could be better.
Why are so many people content with what is at best a mediocre DLC component? Shouldn't we expect more from a company like Bioware?

if you dont want to pay extra money for extra content then dont ... pretty ez imo. BUT if your willing to pay a little bit of money for a quality publisher made add on then by all means buy it. But lets get real here kids there is no reason this should be free and you are not forced to purchase this by any means.

So, three questions remain to be answered:
When will it come out?
How much content is there in it? Is it just one small building worth, or will it be multiple areas(Stone prisoner), and will there be more than just the raw content(new features and such)?
How much will it cost?
The game is great, I really feel that the people working at Bioware have done well(though the romances are a bit tame IMO).
Along with Ostagar, it would be nice to go back into other areas that have been wiped out by the Darkspawn going forward. More Deep Roads content since there is a LOT of room down there to explore given the chance.

Will there be future content available for less than $5? Yes and there will be future content available for more than $5 as well.
The specific release dates are still in flux and are dependent on final testing and certification. Current projections are for sometime in December.
As for the success of the Neverwinter Nights premium module program, it's something I'm very proud of. It proved that it could be done and gave us a lot of experience in doing this kind of thing. Was it a financial success? Well, if you juggle the math just right and squint your eyes a bit, you can make the argument that it hit the break-even point. =o) To be clear, however, that program's lack of profitability had very little to do with the size or scope of the content. The key determining factor was that we only launched it once the game was already three years old. By having PRC available at time of Dragon Age: Origin's launch and by following up in a timely fashion with a wide variety of content at different price points, we hope to be a lot more successful this time around. We're not profitable yet as we have a large infrastructure investment to recoup first (trust me, building a suitable framework for PRC doesn't come cheap), but I think we're on track.
Well, thanks for reading and for being so patient with me, everyone. This thread's getting a little long in the tooth and newcomers are no longer reading it from the start, so I think this will be my final post here. Tomorrow, I'll be back at work on some other upcoming content but I'll see if I can poke in on the forums every now and then to help out.
Regardless, thanks for playing Dragon Age and I look forward to seeing your impressions of Return to Ostagar when it's finally released. Please feel free to copy and paste my answers into other threads as similar questions come up between now and the module's release.
For Ferelden,
Rob
good to see dedication to the fans by quitting on page 15... /end sarcasm
It's just his way of saying "Hey,I'm sick of all the "Fail to price and spice" DLC comments ,my interest balloon has just popped,I'll return when we'll get the cash,HOAAAH!!". *insert lame joke here-The name should rather be Return to Costagar * . Nevermind, the DLC is welcome but I also expect a bit of a surprise cake. Not like in Portal, damn,I was so dissapointed about the cake.I'll buy it,play it ,and then maybe complain about it.That's just the most interesting part isn't it?
