( I know these are optional, but you can't tell me that everyone playing is going to skip getting DLC's, were obviously all passionate about the game if were here on the forums).

I've been waiting for this game for over half a decade and I'm still going to skip this. I was going to buy Warden's Keep, but this changed my mind -- if they're going to release short DLC with this frequency and at these prices, I'll just play the base game and wait until they put it all together to purchase it.

All the whining all the time.

Either it's worth your money or it's not. If you want to send a message, don't buy it.. but don't clog up the question thread :o

For those doing the whole Money spent/Time enjoyed = amount of entertainment recieved. Is that how you decide on what movies are good? One that is 3 hours long is inherently better then 2 hour movie?

Actually people make this decision making all the time for movies. If the movie isn't worth the $12 or whatever, it's a "rental." If it's worth it then it's watched in theaters.

I think you missed the point. Is the 3 hour movie a better movie then the 2 hour movie because and only because it is longer?  Entertainment cannot have its value judged based of time alone.  It is just one part of that equation and the values placed in that equation are totally different for each person and so is the answer.
What I find of value will be different then what you find of value.

I kind of feel a little milked, honestly.

Cows don't have the option of not getting milked.

This is more like an optional service being offered, and you as a responsible consumer deciding your course of action based on past experience and research into the product.

The milking example is so retarded.

In fact, you could spend more on milk than this DLC, if you buy that organic crap.

Thanks Bioware for the additional DLC! Can't wait to buy it.

Quick Question: How much DLC content do most game companies create within the first 12 months after a game like DAO is released? (I'm a DLC newbie who avoids MMORPGs so I'm not sure how many Stone Prisoners, Warden Keeps, etc. to expect.)

Also, is there a difference between buying points vs. the DLC directly? Where can I find more info?

I'm part of those that will buy this for 5$ (even if it's 6,23CAD here hehoh) but I just don't want to see 2 thinks in the future:

1- The game being 60$ for 60 hours or so so it's safe to say it's around 1$/hr...I don't want to end up paying 60$ for like 12 hours of DLC (DLC being 1 hour to complete for 5$)

2- Having a bundled deal of all DLC at 50% the original price in the near future...

Apart from that, I can't wait to play it and yes, i'd too like to loot Duncan's beard!

I want a 20 hour(without dialog) expansion and am willing to pay $30 or so for it.

People will have to make their own decisions about whether or not the price is right for them. I was involved in the pricing decision and this is the price I recommended and felt was appropriate for the content and the amount of effort required to create it. But yes, we understand that $5 can be a lot for some people to pay.

Right on! Price is perfect for more adventures in this amazing and deep universe. It looks like you might actually keep your promise of adding new content for more than a year. :)

1 hour is too short, I don't care how much it costs. For me, a DLC should be as long as, say, the Brecilian forest, then I'll gladly pay 10 bucks. $15-20 expansions should be as long as the Orzamarr questline, deep roads included.

At this rate, 1 hour for $5 is too much of a tease to buy. It's like playing a short demo, then still hungering for the full game.

I guess I'm going to have to wait until 10 DLC's come out for a $20-30 dollar or something bundle with all of them packaged together. If I have to wait each month for 1 hour of new gameply I'll go nuts. You're better off developing a new game.

Average playtime is always tough to pin down because everyone's mileage will vary (and developers player the game in a very different manner than a typical first-time player). I can do a speed run (skipping through conversations and cutscenes, using a buff party, controlling Dog, avoiding some combats, ignoring loot drops, not looking at the scenery, etc) in about 15-20 minutes. I suspect it would take a typical first-time player about an hour to complete.

Ouch. It will be tough to justify a $5 expenditure on 60 minutes of gametime. I was hoping for 2-3.

I was actually happy to see that the DLC is only five bucks.  I can totally justify spending five dollars on an hour's worth of entertainment because I can go back and reply it several times with all of my characters.  A movie costs me $11, only lasts 2 hours, and once I finish watching it there is no option to re-watch it.

I support the $5 price tag :D

No, the DLC is not worth less: The full game is worth more.

Those two things are exactly the same... that's just semantics... saying the cup is half empty or half full doesn't change the status of the cup being filled half-way. The full game is worth more, therefore the DLC isn't worth as much.

No, they're not the same thing. See the third sentence of my original post. My point is that DA:O was abnormally long—compared to most modern games—and that seems to be giving people unreasonable expectations about the 'proper' length of future content.

Every expansion and DLC deals with this issue, so why should BioWare be different? If you buy an RTS with 12 different civs and 20 maps for $50 and an expansion comes out with 3 more of each for $30, are you saying that it's a bad deal? Technically, you got more entertainment per dollar out of the full game, but that in and of itself should not dissuade you from enjoying the extra content. You should care more about the quality than the quanitity.

I think a previous poster brings up a good point. If we all want DLC cheaper and longer, we're going to have to make a sacrifice, and the easiest one is probably in voice acting.

I personally am conflicted on that. One of the reasons I love this game is due to the excellent voice acting. Without it, the game would lose quite a bit of luster. But for DLCs? Perhaps it's a sacrifice that I could handle, depending on what it meant to the length of the content (that is, assuming that cost to create DLCs is what holds them back, as opposed to something else).

If this isn't going to be nearly as deep as the stone prisoner or something why would I pay $5 for it. I mean to finish it in half an hour probably. I already spent $75 on the CE of the game. All I can say is these items better be damn well worth it.

Sorry to complain Bioware guys just hoping you are going to release all out expansions in the near future, and when I say expansion I don't mean the stone prisoner, I mean something that will rival the shivering isles from oblivion.

Oh and more dragons to fight please.

Looks great. $5 for an hour's worth of playing definitely isn't that much. I will definitely give this a try... just not right away. (I'm a completionist; haven't even finished the game itself yet)

Thanks, Rob!

DO NOT WANT to sacrifice voice acting.  Not by a long shot.  Heck, I'd even pay for just additional voice acting/dialogue choices to be put into the OC.

I felt like I was complaining too much ion my last post. You guys have made a truly awesome game and I really am appreciating it. Also I don't suppose you could slip us any information for a 360 patch for the dex glitch?

Whoever said value is based on time alone? I didn't. Is Oblivion a better game than Dragon Age if it boasts 120 hours of gameplay? It's the amount of entertainment received IN the amount of time. Both. Not just length. If it takes 80 hours to watch paint dry and 50 hours to play Dragon Age, that doesn't mean it's better to watch paint dry. I guess you missed the rather obvious point there.

You're right. People saying "Thx Bioware@! Here's my $5!" are not posting a question, and should therefore not be posting.

Actually, you didn't post a question either. Why are you posting in this thread?

I hate DLC's... Some sort of milking a cow until nothing remains. I think we have to blame EA for this. I'd prefer a big expansion pack rather than these little, useless missions.

At what point in the game is this DLC available? I mean if you're trying to prove that the Grey Wardens aren't responsible for the king's death don't you think it'd be kind of counterproductive to be prancing around in his equipment?
