Just because a meal costs 5bucks, doesn't mean 1hour for 5bucks is worth it. Stop trying to lie to yourselves.

Um.

Lets see.

It costs Bioware money to pay for the Voice Actors, considering Alister will obviously have some lines, as will Morrigan, thats two big Voice Actors that will need paychecks for this DLC, knowing Bioware, all the Companions will have at least a line of dialogue about this DLC, this alone will cost them several THOUSAND dollars.

Then we have to add in that they need to pay their coders, their level designers, and their item designers to work on this DLC, rather then on actual patchs and other parts of the game, to get it out faster, they probably are paying overtime, and this will also cost them several thousand dollars as well.

But ya, why not give out this DLC for free, I mean, its not like it costs Bioware anything to make it, not at all!

No matter how much you rage, Bioware needs to make something back from DLC, or else they will just stop making it, and $5 is a very reasonable price, especially since removing that from my monthly income basically just means I won't go have a junk food night this month, which honestly is not that big of a deal.

that may be but someone mentioned they should only charge 1-3 cents per minute on these add-ons and it's an hour long so they charge 8-10 a minute.and if you look at the pole over 55,000 people voted that's probably not even half the amount of people who own this game. do do the math 55000 X $5.00 basicly close to $300,000 i dont think voice actors and game editors graogic desighners make that much money about min. pay that or less.
plus an add-on like this should have released with the game. if you ask me i think there trying to say they need a new yacht.Image IPB

So Bioware shouldn't profit from the game they made? It is why the company exists, yes they love their work but in the end they still need to make money to please shareholders and fund future development costs for all of their projects. I don't overly love the DLC length to cost ratio, but I think this anti-profit crap is just mindless whining. Companies make money otherwise they don't exist.

all i wanted to say in my last post is that i dont care if i just get 1 houer for 5 dollars... im gona think its a worth well spend money...and i probly will have alot game play trues yet to come so maybe the game play in the area will be 10 or 20 houers or what ever....

and i agree whit tereval..and what sonlockdon wrote...its the same whit a mmo let's say you pay 12 dollars a month for a mmo and then maybe once a year there is a expansion you probly will need to pay 30-40 dollars for..its the same here...but no monthly fee...

im sure they will still profit highly they sold the game didnt they and thousands of people bought it theres a profit right there yet here they are selling stuff they could have put together with the game .

sure they could still sell add-ons as long as it has a main point to not just killing darkspawn or your common demons add like new enemies and stuff with a main quest because soldiers peak wasnt to promissing.and a longer game time than an hour for a new gamer so that means they want us to stand around and look at the scenery to make it last longer? so in reality an exsperianced gamer would go through throught this in 30-45 mins.

do realy think its worth it gammle are you going to be pleased to pay $5 to go back to a place you have already been to , just to kill more dark spawn and and get the kings armor .

You just cant satisfy some people, no matter what you do. Sometimes I think its just an intrinsic need in some people to complain, in any given situation. So they can offer new content til the cows come home and to some it will never be good enough, or worth it.

I ve been reading this thread... up to page 12-14... then i skipped the rest becouse first pages already formed total image of this topic...

1) Most ppl who are posting here do or dont like the dlc...

Actually truth is in the middle, dlc can be usefull, but it also can be abused and im sorry, but when there is EA involved im pretty much rather believe the last part, i havent downloaded any content except what i ve been offered for free together with the game when i bought it, Shale and dragon armor... And i wont download anything else until i get the feeling that Bioware really does care about its game and the players that play it. Couse i do know that EA only cares about cash.

2)There are a lot ppl here with to much cash and no guts... someone used exactly the right word... SHEEPS... thats what you are when you brainlessly buy everything they offer you, or even compare price of dlc with food of any junkfood selling company (i must add i was enlighted that someone mentioned subway, that person definitly has more brains than the other sheeps around here) and please dont say its meant to show how unimportant those 5 bucks really are...

Couse i fully agree that 5 bucks, for content with quality of DAO is fair, doesnt matter how you whine, making games isnt that cheap nowadays anymore. You want quality, you pay for it!

But thats not the point, point is, im not a sheep that willingly brings its meat to the butcher.

I am a user of an product that is created by Bioware, user as in customer.

And it doesnt matter how much i enjoy the game i still have an kingdom to rule, couse i am THE KING... Now unfortunatly for me every player with legitime copy of DAO is also an king, or queen if they are females :) They just dont realise that when an sheep rules a kingdom... kingdom dies, thats what is going to happen here too if ppl keep thinking in the way... yesss exellent game, i buy it, Wooot new DLC? I buy it...Woot Another? keep coming.. and coming and coming until you have something like a puzzle, spend honderds of dollars on it, you get over it... and BAM, there is an version of DAO... Gold edition... including all DLC... But its ok, you already have all pieces, hopely they were satisfying couse you just been reaped for like 3/4 of all cash you spended on that game.

But its ok, couse you are a real fan, and Bioware rocks, and you dont mind them to to get few extra liquids, hoping them to create even better games. Will they? Why would they? You just allowed them to make an singleplayer game and they let you pay monthly contribution while they serving you existing content and telling you that voice actors cost so much. What a pity, poor poor Bioware... vallen as prey to EA virus.

Now this isnt a whine, at least it isnt meant to be, its an most likely useless attempt for an wakeup call, for both, players and Bioware.

Very offtopic, i dont care, so are like 60% of all replays here are.

3) Actual question i have is next: I have been into those DLC site something and looked for possibilitys to actually buy content that have been offered....

Credit card... paypal i believe... and some other weird payment methods... Come on...are we still living in medieval? Where are digital payment methods a la IDEAL?

Now i dont mind spending cash on games, i havent even finished The Witcher yet or i already bought DAO, but i definitly refuse to have to crawl around trying to make an payment that cost me more than a day or require me to pay additional taxes like ones that involved into creditcard transactions. Besides i cant even have one, and that must be a really good reason to give me possibility to spend my cash in proper way dont you think?

Now thats a real whine!

So how about inplementing more modern payment methods?

4) Totally offtopic... totally whine, but also totally true and necessary: mages need more love :)

Any plans to add more mage garments in game? Couse really you cant trick me by changing colour or the robe and telling me its a totally different one...i ve changed like 3 of them already and went from yellow to orange and now red coloured robe... but its still the same robe :( And im already at final battle episode :(

For the rest, Bioware... really in the long run you are better off without money hungry EA sharks, keep good work and add more characters we can see in their underwear :) or even better follow The Witcher example, remove those too :)

I'm not sure which alternate universe you are from where companies made games for free with the sole purpose of entertaining people. They are out for profit - EVERY company is out for profit. That's how our system works. You don't like it, go to North Korea.

It's easy really. If you do not want to pay for extra content, made after the release, then DON'T BUY IT.

The End.

I really don't understand why people come here and whine about a SERVICE. Nobody is forcing you to buy anything extra. The simple fact is, you are not getting it for free. Stop whining and move on with your life.

Yea i think its worth it....becouse i enjoy this game to much..but im not only looking for the game time im also looking for new dialogs whit the other charaters that you can speak whit at camp...not just the game play where you butcher darkspwans..but im not gona talk more about this...for some ppl its worth the 5 dollars but for some it seems just a waste...and im not gona try to talk ppl into getting the dlc....i know im gona get them all thats for sure..

While it may only take 30-60 minutes to play, there are things that will stay with you (new armor and the like). So looked at it that way, you'll get to play with the goodies for longer than an hour - assuming the goodies are at all useful to your style of play.

And if they're not - maybe play a different way for a change of pace :D

i don't mind paying for descent content, only thing i would of liked to of saw was the world after you supposedly saved it seeing it get rebuilt and what not maybe with some quest to help restore it:P. I know you get the ending telling you what happened but not the same as seeing for yourself. got to say dragon age is a fantastic job well done bioware- i play pc version.

theres a difference between paying for service, and getting ripped off.

like that guy said... theyre looking for a new yacht.

xbox live has been doing this DLC thing for awhile now, and I have yet to find a game that charges $5 for a small peice of DLC.

What actually bugs me MORE than this is the complaint of "oh, it doesn't have any STORY".
As if the DLC content is somehow going to be part of the main campaign.
Warden's Keep had a BRILLIANT story. Just because it was self-contained does not make it invalid. Which leads me to believe that "story" has just become another Talking Point.

I've heard some cobblers in my time, but the absolute level of nonsense spilling into this thread from people obsessed with trying to find fault is on the list.

They exist to make money
They make money by releasing quality content
Said quality content takes a long time to polish and make right
It also costs an absolute fortune when you factor in wages and production costs
It has to be delivered, which also has a cost.

DLC is the way things are going, it isn't money grubbing, it isn't ripping people off, it is offering a service that people are willing to pay for and works to combat piracy in a user friendly fashion.  Five quid for an hours worth of gameplay is nothing to me and many others, it is just the right mix between expressing we're paying for a polished product but one that won't be monumentally huge.

I would love for stage by stage DLC, RPG's started as books, then became films and now they have the chance to throw TV shows into the mix with episodic content that draws you in over time.  Many others would as well, regardless of the Internet Anarchists calling for multi million dollar investments to be rolled out for chuff all.

The sheer obstinance of some posters is nothing more than an internet phenomenon.  I'm sure you feel that you sound like a revolutionary standing up against tyranny as you rally other bright eyed forum denizens to your cause but instead it comes out more as the whining of a rotund mother at a supermarket checkout over the price of beef.

Full games cost a shed load to make and investment isn't easy, DLC is new.  It's fresh but requires smaller teams but ones who are likely going to be paid at the same scale as their colleagues on the main event.  They also need to make sure what they deliver compares in quality.  We're early days yet, and I don't expect that the skill base is even there for huge sprawling DLC in the timescale that would be acceptable.

I don't believe you people are trolling, I just find that your views are so blinkered by the need to find fault that you are kissing hyperbole firmly on the buttocks while thinking you're making out with sweet common sense.  Saying "if you don't want to pay that much, don't buy it" may sound rude, but it's true. If enough people don't prices will either be lowered or the whole shebang canceled.

I'm willing to pay because DLC is a brand new market that needs growth and the time to become something more solid.  But more than that I'm willing to pay because I've enjoyed what I've had so far and don't believe for a second the Bioware guys are sitting cackling as they light cigars with $100 bills and slapping the rumps of high class hookers.  That is just an absolute nonsense and people even hinting towards that need to be realistic.

Since when hasnt making games been about making money as well? They certainly dont do it solely to entertain you. Try to keep to realistic perspective.

Some people actually do believe that companies make games just for fun. It's mainly used in the Nintendo vs. Sony vs. Microsoft ring, and rose in popularity due to Wii Fit.

People assume that the passion people have for their work must also mean they're willing to live in a box.  Perfectly feasible if you're an artist or a writer, but difficult when just to kick off your masterpiece you need millions.

People who work in the gaming industry love games for the most part, but they still have to eat and sleep comfortably.  Passion doesn't keep a roof over your head unless you're a gigolo.  Investors are the ones that make the money calls and I can't imagine a pitch working if it begins with "We expect to make less than we put in, but it's fine because of fun..."
