If so, also the picture of James Sanders / Vega got me interested. So far it seems that it is still the sniper from the trailer.

They've already said he's not the trailer sniper.

I hope that does not mean no krogans in our squad. :crying:

Same here. I want grunt and James lol. Also I'm pretty sure bioware has said its not the guy in trailer.

Well maybe I checked the wrong issue , though the text kind of corresponds with the text in OP. The other option is that the editors made the mistake and attached the wrong picture to wrong text. I don't know. :(

I'm thinking 7 to 9 squad mates. 7 being the default "first time to ME universe" play, 9 including some of the characters that survived ME2.

*X = new character

1. Liara
2. Vega
3. VS
4. X/Garrus
5 X/Tali
6. X/Jack
7. X/Whoever fills this role--possibly Grunt
8. Legion (assuming they survived)
9. Miranda/Jacob -- depending on gender of Shepard (assuming she survived)

I'm assuming Vega = James?

And if I was to edit your lineup I'd have Legion as a temp, throw Thane in there somewhere (so all LIs would be in) and have the Miranda/Jacob thing be a choice and not based on gender.

Appropriate changes. Thane would be as practical as Legion.

I suspect this may be too optimistic.  Another quote from the article is:
"Looking at the art around Bioware's halls and the brief snippets of gameplay, it's clear many of Mass Effect 2's squadmates have been marginalised...."
The context of the Thane reference is:
"But if they survived, they'll make it in.  Zaeed's in, plus Thane, Mordin and the rest, all knocking about somewhere in the galaxy, doing something appropriate for their character and with the same lavish redesigns given to every core character in the game".
And for Jack:
"Garrus returns as a squad member, and Jack's back, and this time with hair".

That sounds to me like Thane is not a squadmate, and the context of the Jack reference leaves me worried that she's "back", but not as a squad member.    I also don't think James Vega will be the only new squaddie.

My guess:
1. Liara
2. James Vega
3. VS
4. X/Garrus
5 X/Tali
6. X/Miranda
7. newbie 2
8. newbie 3

But maybe I'm being too pessimistic.   I'm basing a fair bit of this on magazine quotes rather than dev quotes, and we know they can get things very wrong!

Why do we even need a new human 'tank'? That used to be Ashley's job in ME1. I guess that means she's just 'cute girl soldier' now and not a powerhouse anymore. :(

I highly doubt they'll make James different class depending on VS.

Don't know--I thought maybe they'd do a Carver/Bethany thing, only depending on the surviving VS instead of your class.

Just thinking out loud here.

Your inner 5 year old will have to make do with a 15 foot mech.  The magazine got that wrong.

But he's there regardless and they describe him as a muscle-bound tank.

I'm never going to use him anyway unless it's mandatory, so that doesn't matter to me (as my squad always = who I want to hear talk during dialogue), I'm more worried for what this means for Ash's characterization.

But Wrex was a Krogan and also a biotic, so it was less redundant.

I just don't want when it comes down to it for James to end up being the 'muscle' instead of Ash, or for her to be any less of a tough-as-nails badass just so he can be the big, burly manly man. And yes, this paranoia is partially inspired by her 'new look'. :?

They said James Sanders was not the sniper.  They didnt say James Vega ;)  Especially if at that time they knew his name would change because its a WIP.

However would Bioware be theat sneaky evil and play with us?   Yeah probably, guess time will tell :P

But who know there sooo much speculation and stuff to confirm!  So far I like everything im hearing.

Oh, I feel ya there.  I hope Ash is geared to hit hard and fast (but with reasonable defenses) while Jimmy just sits there and takes hits.

"Here, Jimmy, go stand in that cluster of enemies for me so Ash and I can line up a few good headshots.  Kthnx."

EDIT: You know, like Zaeed vs. Grunt.

'Human tank noobie here to introduce new characters' is not sounding interesting enough for me to consider bumping either of my favorites as of now. If he's not too annoying I may lug him around in a replay, but Garrus and Ashley are pretty much a lock for my squad the first time.

Probably some with Tech powers.

The initial blurbs can still tell you something. For example, we knew fairly early on that Thane was the 'mysterious assassin' and Miranda was the 'professional Cerberus operative'. I'm just not interested in another Alliance soldier. Having only liked one out of three Alliance squaddies so far, the odds aren't great for him becoming someone I'll be interested in.

But he could be a godly mix of Wolverine, Han Solo and Mal Reynolds and he'd have zero chance of making my squad. Sorry buddy, those seats have been reserved for two games.

@Cheez: I hope she can still take hits, since it'll be my Shepard and Garrus lining up those headshots.

I also like the little column named fan sericed :

"I look at fanart all the time."
says Lead Artist Derek Watts. "I see if people have tried to do stuff with Lego - somebody built a giant Normandy and the Geth Walker. Those things are hard; the Normandy's pain in the ass to do. But when you go to DeviantArt, you've got to put some kind of filter on there because they are always doing something awful with Garrus, and, oh my god, just leave some clothes on that guy!"  [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie]

So yes folks, let's be active when it comes to what we want! And if we will be creative, we will have a really good shot.

Yeah I love how people use that same excuse on here .  Cerberus was doing something in ME 2 while those alien loving bastards the alliance did nothing . Cerberus is not terrorist in my eyes they cared more about humanity than the alliance ever will. Shepard on trail because the alliance is crying over the batarains who died . pathetic.

Cerberus does not care about humanity as a whole. Only Cerberus.

Which is what TIM's motive rant at the end was all about.

Thats fine if you buy that . Us renegade players know whats going on we are being forced to have our imported Shepard play as if our Shepards are paragons and its f**king bull sh*t .

I call the Bull Sh*t here boy!Image IPB

If you paid any attention in ME2 Renagade Shepard never sided with Cerberus at the end of the game!

people were saying stuff like this before ME2 ccame out, and we got far better character in the sequel, almost all.
