Would you be willing to give up those N7-style side missions for ME3 if it meant more content involving squadmates?

Indeed. Especially since there is even LESS interaction with the ME2 missions then there was with ME1. In a good chunk of ME1 missions, you would either talk to someone that altered the original purpose of doing the side missions (Like say with toombs and cerberus) or at least had some connection with a character outside of the missions itself. (Like recurring Admiral Hackette or one shots like Nasana Dantius.)
If they are not going to increase interaction with the side missions, then I would gladly be rid of them if that meant even more interactive story content for our squad.
This.
I find it amusing that devs said they took out UNC Missions because they were just cheap thrills. And what did they replace it with? Some mute action set pieces. I don't see much difference.
Sure, most ME1 UNC missions contained senseless shooting, but there were gems like Corporal Toombs, Old Alliance nuke and modestly good exploration stuff like double sun vistas or Eletania trinket.
Common factor of good ME1 side stuff was it either involved dialogue or exploration. N7 missions are just another shooting sequences we get lots of in main story.
Only ME2 "side missions" with dialogue are those on hub worlds.
And please Bioware, don't make me solve someone's personal issues in ME3.
This exactly.

Yes. Gladly. If it adds to plot/character depth, I'm all for it. And there are plenty of reasons to have the established sub-plots tie in with squaddies. In fact, I was very disappointed Mordin and Grunt never had an argument about the genophage... should totally happen in ME3.

There's only so much character related side missions you can have. Personally, I'd rather swap N7 missions with something like Project Overlord, or to a lesser extent Firewalker, a series of linked side missions (probably taking place on multiple planets rather than just one like Overlord), with a a strong over-arching story over them, dialogue and choices. Say, for example, 5 sets of side missions, each set the length of Overlord or Arrival, rather than 20 or so N7 missions mostly unrelated to eachother with no dialogue and only, over the course of all of them, 2 choices to be made. Sure, we all like chararacter related missions, but you can't really just swap every single side mission for a character mission.
