In DAO she looked like a character and acted like a character. In DA2, her looks and story just look dramatic, but has no relevance to the game.

I don't mind the new look but it would be nicer if it was less over the top, but maybe that's just a symptom of the art style more then the redesign itself seeing as in DA2 old people dont seem to exist. The new look definitely wouldn't have worked in DAO though.

I guess Yoda should have been a huge, hulking monster.
And Tom Bombadil should have been 100 feet tall.

So much for that time-tested motif -- immense power and wisdom, hidding itself within the veil of normalcy, until the time to reveals itself is at hand...

*sigh*

DA2's Flemeth art design is just like most everything else in DA2.  Flashy, kewl, and shallow.

Edit:  ^ ^ ^  I guess the words "flashy, cool, and shallow" mainly just apply to the combat in DA2.   Better descriptors for other aspects of the game include:  neglected, disjointed, repetitive, tedious, and forgettable.

I like the way her look has developed. It fits in with what we know about her at the different times. Around Ostagar she is a/the Witch of the Wilds. Later she turns into a dragon, and later she is a dragon who can survive being killed (?!). So when she appears in DA2, she goes in for a bit of showing off. All perfectly reasonable.

Question - What does the Witch of the Wilds look like?
Answer - Whatever she wants to.

What I would like to see in a DA expansion or DA3 is a storyline which has her transform on screen from mature stunner to somebody's granny. Bioware - there is your challenge!

They pressed the "Awesome Button" too many times when designing DA2 Flemeth. In the end, her state in DA2 is just like the state of the rest of the game. Too much focus on awesomeness creating an over-the-top hard to believe presentation.

It reminds me too much of power rangers but it's also like Gandalf the Grey vs Gandalf the White. In DA2 Flemeth is not hiding her abilities.

Someone said it earlier, but I'll always take a character that stands out over a character that, from a distance, would blend in with any other standard NPC.

DA2 Flemeth wins.

Well the new Flemeth just would not have fit well into the story of DAO at all. When you think of an old woman mage living in a small hut out in the Wilds the new Flemeth just doesn't fit. The new Flemeth fits much better in DA2 however.

So, putting the New Flemeth in DAO or putting the Old Flemeth in DA2 just doesn't work either way.

As far as which I prefer, I prefer the old Flemeth. DA2's version (like everything else) is just way too over the top.

I like the new Flemeth. The old Flemeth's visual design wasn't very memorable, and probably wasn't meant to be.

This new Flemeth radiates power, which is appropriate considering she's a powerful immortal apostate. Her design and colours are distinctly dark, but not so dark as to be obviously evil, giving her an air of ambiguous morality. She also nails a distinctly dragon-y vibe to her design; studs cover her armour like scales on a dragon, feathers signify flight, and the hair is styled into two pairs of dragon-like horns. This fits very well with the character, who can shape-shift into a dragon. I like it.

Only two things I don't like. First, the plunging neckline. Really, Bioware? You really need to sexualize this kind of character? And second, the use of armour plates, which obviously tries to be analogue to the larger scales of a dragon, but actually ends up giving her a warrior-esque vibe to her, which does not sit well with her magical nature. I would suggest something more subtle, more graceful - and spiky.

Personally, the worst thing about the new Flemeth's design was the fact that Bioware went through all the trouble of extensively re-designing her all just for a cameo. If you're going to promise a memorable character just by looking at her, please make her actually memorable.

Also, why can't both Flemeths co-exist? She's a shape-shifter, and I don't see that outfit of hers expanding to fit her dragon form, so it's obviously magical in nature. In future Dragon Age games, you could have her pass herself off as just an old woman when you meet her in towns and cities, then have her appear in full gear when you meet her again in the countryside, where it's safer to show off. I think that would make her character much more interesting.

Of course Origin's Flemeth is more interesting.
I hate the styling of DA2 Flemeth so vehemently, that I can't really talk about it without speaking badly about people involved or being positive. The very nicest thing I can say is "childishly tasteless". That's not quite it, but I'll leave it at that.

Absolutely DA2. I like the hair horns. Like the armor, they evoke the feeling of the dragon. She leaves Hawke wondering if she is a human shapeshifter, or a dragon shapeshifter. I hope the devs have something in mind for her in DA3.

On the other hand, I dislike the Qunari redesign. Sten of DA:O was fine with me.

DA:O. The beauty of her design in the first game is that she appears to be an old hag but she exudes arrogance and confidence quite far from her appearance. In DA2, she's sexualized and appears to overcompensate with the peculiar horn-shaped hair. Another facepalm.

DA2, of course. DA:O Flemeth was just another old woman. Almost nothing memorable at all, and I'm talking not only about character model, but also about animations, camera work and voice-over. Generic NPC №101, what can be likeable in an empty place? Someone talked about Yoda, but Yoda WAS unique, both in appearance and the manner of speech. In fact, he and Wader probably stood out more than any other character in the films.

DA2 Flemeth was captivating and rather creepy. Her appearance in DA2 was probably one of the most powerful and memorable cut-scenes in both games. For me, at least.

Also, I agree with KnossosTNC. It would be nice to see Fleemth changing her human appearance in DA3 based on circumstances.

The fantastic Dragon Age artist, Aimo, did a great piece on this very subject.

Check it out: social.bioware.com/1179/albums/289138/55999

And you can see LOTS  more of her work through the links here: social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/97/index/525216

Oh, and to answer the title question: "Both looks are well suited to the character, and the story, at the time." Image IPB

She looks awesome in Dragon Age 2! Really looks like................................"The Witch-of-the-Wilds"
On the otherhand qunari re-design was not Ok! Especially every qunari with horns, looks odd but i really liked Arishok

I like her DA2 design, really gives her the mystical witch look, though the hair horns might be a bit much. Whilst her DA:O design was just a normal old woman that's what I sort of liked about it, the first time I ever fought her I did not expect her to transform into a giant ass dragon. I was like..."damn it."

There we have it! Once again the community is divided on the old vs new look Flemeth. I will wage in here and vote for the DA 2 Flemeth. I sorry new Flemeth looks bad to the bone! She exudes power ond the do not mess with me attitude. Over the top! Absolutely, the Blight is over! She is ready to step out and take destiny by the horns and breath fire on it!

Also what wrong with sexy greadmas? Nothing!

Only the mentally challenged can find DA2's Flemeth better.
