Flemeth. Which of her looks do you prefere? Her in DAO, or her in DA 2?

Either way is fine. I'm not much for shrieking nerd rage I guess. :D

I find DA2 Flemeth kind of silly myself.

Fits in perfectly with the rest of the game IMO....

I like both Flemeths equally. They both represent different faces that she presents to the world... The DA2 form could even be presumed to be how she sees herself... or WANTS to see herself...
I like both, because they each fulfill their needed role perfectly.

DOA Flemeth - DA 2 Flemeth made me say: "Oh, she used magic to make her hair into horns... that's clever."

I preferred the witch of the wilds who was so powerful she didn't care about looking like a super villain.

The battle is between style (DA2) and substance (DA:O). DA2's Flemeth fit with the rest of the game, going for the "cool" look rather than the earthy realism of DA:O. DA:O's Flemeth would have been out of place within DA2's artistic angle, I think. So, really, it's difficult to choose as neither would fit well in the other's world.

I liked both for what they were. Old Flemeth suited that game. I love the new Flemeth's look though. In DAO she was simply like a creepy old witch living in the woods, her powers seemed almost a fable then. In DA2, even her appearance screamed " I am mythical and I look it!" but in DAO she had all her actions thoughout the game to build her up, where in DA2 it is all in that one/two segments so her appearance says as much as her actions.

Both are fine. Frankly if it was a brand new character i'd probably go with the second. However, adding the second is rather stupid when you've already done the first.

Her look works well in both. It makes sense for Flemeth to feign being a strange old lady for the purposes of hiding and appearing harmless, even helpful to the Warden (perhaps hoping the Warden would dismiss her as a threat) in DAO.

In DAII, she is flaunting her power (she's introduced as a freaking shape-shifting dragon, so any pretense as to being nonmagical would be laughable) to get a refugee to deliver a magical amulet. For good measure, just in case the implied threat was not enough, Flemeth swooped in and saved the day.

I wonder what form she will adopt in DA3.

Her appearance in Dragon Age makes more sense. She is obviously, hiding a lot of things and appears weak and fragile - which is probably why people think she's dead/a legend.

An old woman knowing a great deal, and talking mysteriously, and laughing is much more menacing than whatever they did with her in Dragon Age II. It draws too much attention for her liking - she's a shapeshifter, so her "human" appearance shouldn't concern her...

By that line of thinking, is Morrigan odd and unfitting for collecting jewelry?

More proof that Morrigan isn't her real daughter.  I think there has to be a reason why her appoval rating goes up +6 when you give her a locket of a dark haired woman.

Mary Kirby, a writer for Dragon Age, answered this well. I just stumbled upon this reply on the forums, and its an explanation good enough for me to no longer dislike DA2 Flemeth.

Really, if bioware has a clue they should make Mary Kirby lead writer for da series.

Yeah, I really want to know if this "new" Flemeth is simply part of the new visual design on everything or if there is some sort of in-game explanation? Given that its concept art though, I believe Gaider posted in a thread saying that the in game model for Flemeth doesn't look quite as young and hot as the concept art.

Still, I'm curious if this is just a visual retcon, or what?

She's a thousand-year-old abomination, a shapeshifter who, according to legend (and according to the grimoire you give Morrigan) seduces mortal men in order to get herself more daughters. Her daughters are reputed to be able to kill men with fear. She's both a seductress and a hag. She played up the hag aspect for the Warden, "Oh, never mind me, I'm just a crazy old bat who saved your life! Go on your quest and take my daughter with you! I'm sure nothing terrible could come from that..." But just because the Warden only saw her as the hag, doesn't mean that's all she was...

Flemeth in the first game was attempting to look like a simple "wilder folk" apostate when the Warden encountered her, but Hawke first sees her as a high dragon, so there was no need for her to use that "humble hag" facade. I am curious to see if Bioware uses her shap-shifting ability and ability to be in two places at once to explain convenient appearances of certain characters throughout the series.

I took the look of Flemeth in the first game was how she wanted the Warden and others to see her...the balmy old bat living alone in the woods, with her apostate daughter and who is harmless. We learned that she could turn into a dragon, and since we slew her in dragon form we didn't see Flemeth's true human form....

Until DA2. I liked both very much, and each suited the images they wanted to portray to the people they were trying to make an impression on. It showed how truly and terrifyingly clever she is. Damn, she is going to be a tough one to beat, she is always two steps ahead. Everyone else is playing tic tac toe and she is playing chess, advanced sodoku, and filling out the NY Times crossword in pen.

One of the best characters ever!

Now that's hardcore.

B)

I still don't like the hair horns though. She transitions from a stylistic all powerful Witch to an over the top JRPG villain because of that in my opinion.

Maybe her true form IS the dragon... Image IPB

Umm, no. I'm fine with style, as well as substance.

I very much object to very ridiculous and gimmicky JPRG style though. DA2 Flemeth make me want to kick some designer's nuts.

Just considered something. Think about it from the point of view of Hawke rather than us players who've seen one form of Flemeth before. Would YOU find it easier to believe a high dragon turning into a harmless-looking old lady, or find it easier to believe a dragon turns into this?

Image IPB

She looks very magical, but when you swoop down in dragon form and THEN turn into a human, is there any point in pretending you aren't?

EDIT: Another thing to consider: This could very well be a result of Varric exaggerating (remember Bethany's boobs in the begining for non-mage!Hawke?) or Cassandra's imagination going into overdrive.

I like Flemeth's look in DA2, to be honest. She has become more distinct and recognizable as her role becomes more involved and mysterious.

From an artistic standpoint, she does look pretty badass, IMO, and frankly it looks like the artists enjoyed the process (I know I would've :D). Sure, she's "over the top", but it could be said that DA2 as a whole was hyped as such and her design therefore fits the atmosphere.

Someone should make a mod that
switches out Flemeths model at the summoning with my Wardens, then my

I would happily shell out cash for that as a DLC. But a mod would give me a joygasm.../../../images/forum/emoticons/w00t.png

If they make a character this high qaulity that's barely in the game, they should make everyone else even more unique than Flemeth. She should have kept her old look and no shapeshifting in front of Hawke. Wait until She is actually a main character, than change her to look badass. Right now it seems like 1 unique npc equal to a new dungeon. To think they put so much resources on a pointless character when everything else is lacking, man...

And this^ I love Flemeth, and I love her looks in both...but....

DAO's Flemeth looked like a random NPC. Totally forgettable, if it wasn't for Kate Mulgrew.
DA2's Flemeth looks like... well Flemeth.

I'd have to say DA:O Flemeth solely on the grounds that making me want to bang old ladies is uncool on Bioware's part. First there was Wynne, and now this?!

So confused...

Which was the point. She was posing as this harmless old lady, that no one would suspect of being dangerous. In DA2, however, she does the exact opposite.

She was one of my favorite characters from DAO, and while I don't really mind her appearance in DA2, it just seems silly and pandering. Ok, she's no longer hiding out and trying to keep a low pro, but why does that translate into changing into a body hugging chainmail suit, and doing her hair up to look like horns? It's too in your face with the "I'm a powerful unique character", It clashes with HER character completely, It's the sort of thing that belongs in a childrens Disney movie, not in a game that's supposed to be more on the mature side.
